Chapter 573: Chapter 573 - 2 Laws, 1 Soul

Normally, one soul could only fully integrate one Law.

A complete Law became the main axis of the soul. Once that axis formed, the practitioner’s existence began revolving around it.

To force a second complete Law into the same soul was suicide with better vocabulary.

The two Laws would reject each other and the practitioner’s existence would collapse beneath a contradiction it could not carry.

But Eirene’s case is different.

In her past life, her Lunarian self had already integrated the Law of Stillness.

Before reincarnating, she had cut away the part of her soul that housed her Law.

The other half reincarnated.

That reincarnated half became the current Eirene, a Floran. That Eirene later integrated the Law of Equivalence.

So the two Laws had not been forced into one intact soul at the same time.

They had grown in two separated halves of the same original existence.

One half carried Stillness.

One half carried Equivalence.

When Eirene recovered and merged with her other soul-half in the Stillness Ruin, the two Laws did not reject each other as strangers. They recognized the same root.

That was why she could use both.

That was why she could turn into her Lunarian form.

That was why her existence had become something almost impossible.

A dual-axis soul.

One axis from her past life.

One axis from her current life.

And now, under the gaze of the universe, that danger finally revealed its teeth.

•••

The universe was asking Eirene a question.

Who are you?

The Lunarian who carried the Law of Stillness? Or the Floran who carried the Law of Equivalence?

The past that refused to fade? Or the present that had chosen to bloom again?

Eirene floated in the void, surrounded by silver moonlight and green radiance.

Her body flickered.

One moment, she was the Floran Eirene. The next moment, she became the Lunarian from her past life.

Then she flickered back.

Then again.

Her soul was threatening to divide.

If she chose one side, the other might wither.

If she refused to choose, both might collapse.

Worse, the universe might decide that a divided existence had no right to be recorded as Eternal at all.

Eirene’s balance-scale necklace glowed. The artifact awakened.

Equivalent Exchange activated.

A luminous scale appeared above her.

One side carried Stillness.

The other carried Equivalence.

At first, the scale tilted violently toward Stillness.

That was expected.

Her past life had not merely integrated the Law of Stillness. She had lived as its Eternal for a long time. That Law had weight, age, history, and terrifying stability.

Equivalence was powerful. But newer.

Eirene opened her eyes.

Her expression remained calm, but her hands trembled.

"So it is still heavier."

The scale did not answer.

It only showed the truth.

Eirene breathed in.

Then she began paying the price.

Her soul that housed Stillness burned.

The scale shifted slightly.

Eirene’s face paled.

Stillness pressed down.

Equivalence answered.

The two Laws strained against one another, and her necklace shone brighter and brighter as it tried to mediate the impossible.

Eirene had expected this.

This was another reason she had hesitated to break through.

She had calculated the price.

She had believed that if she could balance both Laws long enough, the universe would stop forcing her to choose and recognize her as a complete existence.

Two halves.

One soul.

Two Laws.

One Eirene.

But theory and breakthrough were not the same thing.

No calculation could perfectly measure the pressure of universal recognition.

Eirene persevered.

She had to.

Because this path was not born from vanity alone.

...

Long ago, she had chosen reincarnation for several reasons.

The first was personal.

She did not want to meet Lucien as only a shadow from the past. She wanted to meet him again as someone new.

Not as the Eternal of Stillness reaching back from old grief. But as Eirene.

The woman who had lived again. The woman who had chosen again.

The second reason was survival.

The Eternal of Stillness had to die.

At least, the world had to believe she had.

Her name carried too much history, too much fear, and too many old enemies. If the peaceful era learned that the Eternal of Stillness still lived, countless powers would panic, worship, hunt, bargain, scheme, or kneel for reasons that had nothing to do with the life she wanted now.

And the true enemies would do worse.

She had once stood close to the Human Ancestor’s path. That connection alone was enough to bring disaster. Eirene remembered the stories left behind by the Primordial Slime. She remembered the trap the Primordials had prepared to bring down the Human Ancestor. She remembered how far certain beings would go when threatened by possibilities they could not control.

If those enemies knew that someone tied to "him" had survived into the present, they would not spare the continents in their attempt to erase her.

So she buried the Eternal of Stillness.

And allowed herself to reincarnate into a different race, a different body, and a different Law.

The third reason was the most arrogant.

She had believed Stillness was not enough.

Stillness could not answer every loss.

So she sought another Law.

Equivalence.

If Stillness preserved what must not fade, then Equivalence could pay the price for what preservation required.

If Stillness could hold the line, Equivalence could make the cost bearable.

With both Laws, she thought she might protect what one Law alone could not.

Protect the world. Protect the person she cared about. Protect the future she had once failed to return to in time.

It had seemed logical.

Brilliant, even.

Now, as her soul trembled beneath two Laws, Eirene finally understood.

She had been greedy.

And perhaps a little arrogant.

She had believed that because the path was possible, she could walk it.

She had forgotten that possibility did not mean mercy.

•••

The scale above her slowly moved.

Stillness lowered.

Equivalence rose.

For a moment, the two sides approached balance.

Eirene’s eyes brightened.

She was close.

Very close.

The Floran form and Lunarian form stopped flickering so violently.

The two selves began to overlap instead.

Eirene felt the universe hesitate.

Recognition approached.

It was then that it occurred

The balance-scale necklace... cracked.

The sound was tiny.

In the void, it should have been impossible to hear.

Eirene heard it anyway.

Her eyes widened.

A fracture ran across the artifact.

Then another.

The scale above her shuddered. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Equivalent Exchange flickered.

"No."

The artifact broke.

The balance vanished.

And Stillness descended once again with the weight of an older Law returning to the place it had occupied for too long.

Eirene’s Floran form flickered violently.

Green radiance dimmed.

The living petals in her hair began turning silver.

Her Lunarian side surged forward, trying to preserve the self that had already proven it could endure eternity.

The current Eirene was being swallowed by the past.

Her soul began splitting again.

Eirene clenched her hands.

Self-preservation took over.

If she did nothing, both might be lost.

If she surrendered fully to Stillness, the Floran Eirene might disappear.

If she clung to Equivalence without support, the Law might collapse under the weight of Stillness and drag her soul with it.

Her lips trembled.

"So close."

She had been so close.

•••

Lucien arrived before her like a road tearing through the void.

Creation gathered beneath him, folding distance into possibility.

When he saw Eirene, his eyes widened.

She was flickering between two existences.

The Eirene he knew.

And another.

A Lunarian woman wreathed in moonlight and old silence.

Beautiful in a way that carried grief like a crown.

Lucien’s heart tightened.

"So my suspicions are right."

Eirene had a past life. And he has seen this form in the Stillness Ruin.

And more than that...

His gaze sharpened.

Two Laws.

Stillness.

Equivalence.

Lucien understood in a breath.

The universe was forcing the soul to declare which axis would become Eternal.

And Eirene was failing because both were true.

Lucien’s expression changed.

He could not let the universe erase one truth to preserve another.

Lucien moved closer, but the pressure around her struck him.

It was not an attack.

It was breakthrough rejection.

The universe was measuring.

The Laws were splitting.

The soul was being pulled apart.

Lucien closed his eyes. He had to think of a solution.

Perfect Calculation activated. Perfect Loop followed.

Thousands of branching paths opened in his mind.

And branching paths shattered one after another quickly.

Lucien activated the predictive effect of Perfect Calculation and let Perfect Loop test each prediction.

He delved deeper.

There had to be an answer.

He did not need to define Eirene for her.

He could not.

That would doom her.

He needed to give her a foundation strong enough that she could define herself.

Something that could allow two different truths to grow from one existence without one devouring the other.

Just then...

One path opened in his mind.

He had found a solution.

Lucien’s eyes opened.

The Tree of Creation stirred inside him.

Above his Divine Energy Core, the fruits trembled.

Yes.

The Fruit of Creation.
