Chapter 274: A Plan

Aegon explained everything about the Mana Battery to his small audience and watched them get fascinated by it. They behaved like kids who had gotten a new toy to play with.

Still, he was displeased. "You’re disappointing me. Where is my praise? Glaze me to the heavens."

"Chill, buddy," Xavier waved his hand. "This is more important than you. Actually, I was thinking of killing you so I can take over this. You know, stealing credit and stuff."

"Your last name isn’t Edison," Aegon rolled his eyes. "Also, your training is getting to your head, huh? We’ll spar later."

Elara kicked Xavier before she stood up and came toward him. Her long ears turned red as she smiled and said, "Congratulations."

With that, she rose on her toes and kissed his cheek, taking him by surprise. But that alone turned her whole face bright red, yet she held onto his body and said, "You worked really hard on this."

Aegon blinked in surprise, still feeling the softness against his cheek. Her warmth still lingered alongside her fragrance. She smelled so sweet that he just wanted to bury his head in her nape.

A grin formed on his lips as he circled his arms around her thin waist and pulled her closer. "You know, that was a half-complete kiss. Why don’t you congratulate me properly again?"

"You!!!"

Her face flushed as she glared at him, but Aegon’s smile widened seeing that. She looked so cute when she was angry.

"Oiii! Get a room, you two," Cali shouted from the side, laughing. "We don’t want to see this."

"Lies! I wanna see it," Luna took out her diary and smiled. "Go on. I’ll write it in detail. I swear it’ll become famous."

"I second it!" Xiu also shouted, finally returning to her usual self. "Damn it! I should have recorded this moment."

Aegon smiled, though Elara buried her face in his chest. He stroked her hair lightly and said, "Alright, that’s enough. Don’t tease her so much, otherwise I’m not saving you from her anger."

That shut up his friends, and even Xiu closed her mouth. Though Aegon could guess her thought process. She didn’t want to scare off her daughter-in-law so quickly.

"Sorry about that," he sighed and looked down. "But I couldn’t help it. You’re just too cute."

"Idiot!" she muttered, then separated from him. Her expression returned to normal, but the shade of red said enough. "You deserve it after all that hard work."

With that, she went back to sit with her friends. Her stern expression made them all silent, as no one dared tease her. Even though she wasn’t the oldest among them, she had played that role for more than a decade.

"She’s a good one," Liliana whispered to Aegon.

"I’m lucky," Aegon smiled before turning toward the others. "In any case, this is all I have, and I wanted to share it with all of you since you’re the most important people in my life."

"I’m still in disbelief. You actually did it," Samuel chuckled and said. "I’m proud of you, son. Really proud. I knew you’d succeed, but I didn’t expect it to be so soon."

Aegon rubbed the bridge of his nose and replied, "Thanks, thanks. But you’ll have to work extra hard from now on. I know little about the Empire, and I honestly don’t want to spend my time on it."

He crossed his arms and continued, "I’ll set up the factory and oversee the manufacturing process. Aside from that, you’ll have to handle everything else. Please make sure it reaches everyone."

His gaze hardened as he said, "People will try to hoard it away from the common populace. That defeats the whole purpose of my hard work."

Samuel nodded in understanding and threw his Mana Battery to Micheal. "I’ll take over some of your work, so you’ll handle everything related to this from now on."

"Father..." Micheal’s eyes widened in surprise.

"Become the pioneer of the new era with them," Samuel smiled and leaned back. "I’ve grown old. The next era isn’t for people like me, but for you. Consider this your first step toward taking over the throne."

Micheal stared at the Mana Battery in his hand, heart thumping against his chest. He clenched it tightly and said, "I will make sure you’re not disappointed."

"Happy?" Samuel asked Aegon.

Aegon gave him a thumbs-up. "You’re one crafty man."

"But I have a suggestion," Samuel sat up straight and said. "I hope you deliver the first batches to our army. Arthur is right. This could provide us with great victories we desperately need."

Arthur nodded in agreement.

"The demons wouldn’t expect this. Even if they do, they won’t be prepared for it," Samuel continued. "But if we release it to the public first, they’ll have plenty of time to come up with countermeasures."

Aegon’s eyes turned somber as he considered the suggestion. After a few seconds, he said, "Fine. But I have a condition. It won’t be used against humans. I know it’s a silly condition since it’s bound to happen eventually, but..."

A sigh escaped his mouth. "I just want to delay that fate."

"I give you my word!" Arthur stood up, slamming his fist against his chest. "Everything you provide will be used only against demons. I will make sure of that."

"That relieves me," Aegon smiled and said. "Also, I don’t need to say this, but please keep the Mana Batteries in check. If you’re really planning to use them against the demons, that’s necessary."

Arthur nodded, his hand clenching into a fist. "I’m grateful for this, Aegon. You don’t realise how much this will help us. How many lives it will save."

"I do know, Marshal," Aegon shook his head. "That’s why I’m not forbidding military use. That’s actually one of the things that kept me motivated."

"I have a suggestion too," Luna raised her hand. As all eyes fell upon her, she straightened confidently and said, "Once the army uses them, the whole world will know about them and they’ll desire them. Especially the nobles."

"What are you trying to say, Sis?" Aegon asked.

"Pretty simple. You’re worried about potential chaos caused by the sudden arrival of Mana Batteries. Most resistance will come from nobles, so why don’t we start with them?"
