Chapter 276: Worryworts

The party was in full swing as even the mansion’s staff joined in to celebrate. They loved Aegon, as they had watched him grow up. His achievements made them proud and happy too.

Of course, everyone was also excited for the food since it was personally made by Chen Xiu herself. And they all knew how well she cooked.

How could they miss it?

Aegon took a sip of red wine with bubbles swirling inside it and nodded in appreciation. ’It’s good. Where does she even find all of these things?’

Xiu took great care of everyone’s health, especially Aegon’s, so while she allowed the consumption of alcohol and other delicacies, they had to be of exceptional quality so they wouldn’t harm anyone.

The alcohol present here was of the finest quality and taste, which made Aegon wonder how she managed to gather so many rare things in such a short time.

’Guess I will never solve the mystery known as Xiu,’ Aegon smiled and turned around as a maid arrived before him.

"Anything you need, Young Master?" Stephanie asked.

"Aunt Stephanie, you really don’t have to do this today," Aegon sighed in exasperation. "Look, everyone is enjoying themselves. Join them."

Stephanie had been the Head Maid of House Augustus for so long that she was basically a family member by now. Especially since she helped a lot in teaching Xiu the ways of maternal care.

Aegon liked her a lot too, giving her the status of an aunt, so he really couldn’t get used to their status difference even after all these years. Sadly, she couldn’t get used to it either.

"That’s exactly why I have to be here," Stephanie smiled. "Those girls can lose themselves for a bit today. They worked hard. But someone needs to be at your service at all times."

"Aghh!" Aegon groaned in frustration. "I have Hecte and the others."

"Would they help you in small tasks?" She raised an eyebrow questioningly.

Aegon paused, imagining how it would look if a giant shadow served him wine during a party. He scoffed. "Certainly not."

"Exactly!" She beamed in joy. "That’s why you need me."

"I believe she’s just feeling useless since she couldn’t serve you for a while."

A soft, calm voice made them turn as an elegant man with dashing red hair came to stand before them. Holding a glass of yellow wine, he smiled warmly at both of them.

"Your Highness!" Stephanie bowed to Micheal.

"Is he right?" Aegon asked, turning toward Stephanie.

Stephanie looked troubled by the question, but eventually gave in. "Miss Hecte and the others can help you all the time, but I have to sit at home. Days go by without seeing you. It makes me worry."

"I suppose you have three mothers," Micheal chuckled. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"I might have more," Aegon said before turning toward Stephanie. "I’m not saying anything else because I know it won’t work. You’ll worry regardless."

She smiled sweetly at that.

"Well, I’ll see what I can do to lessen your worries," Aegon suddenly paused as an idea came to his mind. "Actually, I’ve already found the solution. Mana Batteries."

Stephanie looked confused and wanted to ask more, but seeing that Micheal was still present, she nodded politely and bowed. "Then I’ll leave you two alone."

As she left, Aegon grumbled, "I’m really surrounded by worrywarts."

"You don’t hate it though," Micheal noted.

"Why would I?" Aegon smiled and shrugged lightly. "People starve for love and care. It would be an insult to them and to the people who love me if I hated all of this."

He picked up another cup of wine and winked at Micheal. "And I’m also an attention seeker. I love it."

The prince chuckled at that and shifted closer to the table. "I presume the wine is from Uncle’s collection."

"I wouldn’t know," Aegon shrugged.

As he picked up a bottle from the side, he frowned slightly and muttered, "She even brought some from Moonrise Kingdom, huh."

Aegon nodded and turned toward him. "I’m curious, what should I call you instead of Your Highness?"

"Anything will do," Micheal answered nonchalantly, though nobility and elegance still radiated from his every movement. After a moment of thought, he added, "Just Mike will suffice."

[Because you call her Xiu by her name, he wants the same treatment. His intentions are impure.]

’I know, but since when did you become so good at reading people, system?’

[Just yesterday.]

Aegon ignored it and said, standing straight, "Then, Mike, the reason I called you here wasn’t because of the Mana Batteries."

Micheal paused, clearly surprised though he hid it well. "Then... Father?"

"Not really. I don’t have the best experiences with your family, after all," Aegon replied.

Micheal laughed lightly. "That’s fair."

"It’s because of Xav," Aegon said, gesturing toward Xavier. "Thanks for taking him in and mentoring him."

"Really? Just for this?" Micheal looked genuinely surprised. "I mean, that kid is good. I actually enjoy teaching him."

"Mike, let’s be honest here. Xavier isn’t the brightest one in the room. I know he’s average talent-wise," Aegon said, watching Xavier laugh loudly while bothering Cali. "Still, I can assure you he’ll work harder than anyone you know."

He smiled fondly at him and added, "He is my brother, so I’m truly grateful for everything you’ve done for him. If I had helped him personally, he would have felt self-conscious."

"I think you misunderstand something," Micheal said. "I didn’t choose him because of you. I chose him for who he is. That’s what impressed me."

Pointing toward Aegon, he continued, "A man with average talent surrounded by monstrous geniuses, yet he refuses to be overshadowed completely. That alone tells me enough about his character."

"Xiu was right about you," Aegon smiled. "Still, you should know I’m grateful."

"You know, I’m still surprised hearing that," Micheal said. "Xiu complimenting me? I find that hard to believe. All that woman has ever done is curse me to oblivion."

"I curse my friends all the time," Aegon shrugged. "Xav takes the brunt of it."

Micheal didn’t continue the topic. Instead, he simply glanced toward Xiu, a mysterious glint flickering in his eyes.
