Chapter 611: Barbecue

"Got it." The little guy obediently nodded. He had seen his sister pregnant before, and he had a great memory. His sister’s belly was very big at that time.

The atmosphere in the car was warm. The car wasn’t moving slowly, and the road here had long been fixed. It only took about forty minutes to reach Qingyuan Temple, which was quite fast.

Xu Mumu looked at the grand temple in front of her and was momentarily dumbfounded. Was this really the rundown temple from her memory? The change was too drastic.

"This temple has changed quite a bit," Xu Mumu said with a smile.

"Quite a bit. Your brother and his crew were just talking about it yesterday. It seems like some philanthropist donated money to renovate the temple. Didn’t expect it to be this big, and so many vendors outside," Li Caixia said in surprise. She had been here a few years ago when the temple had already been tidied up once.

"A businessman from Hong Kong, I happen to know him," Yin Yang calmly said.

"It’s quite lively here, tsk tsk, things are so expensive here. Lucky we brought our own stuff," Yin Yang said after parking the car, overhearing his mother-in-law muttering.

The prices here were indeed a bit steep. Xu Mumu took a look around. Apart from selling incense and paper money, there were also various fruits and snacks.

Smelling the scent of barbecue wafting not far away, Xu Mumu swallowed, craving it.

"Sister, let’s go there, there’s good food there." Xu Mingfeng, who had the same idea as Xu Mumu, pulled her hand wanting to go to the barbecue stand.

"Sure, let’s buy some," Xu Mumu nodded. The delicious smell awoke her cravings.

"Boss, how much do you charge per skewer?" Xu Mumu walked over and asked.

"Ten cents for veggie skewers, thirty cents for meat. Choose whatever you like, miss, everything here is fresh," said the young barbecue vendor, who looked to be in his twenties.

"That’s so expensive," Li Caixia was a bit discontent upon hearing that. Even in the provincial capital, it’s not this pricey. It’s at least twice as much here.

The provincial capital had developed rapidly over the years, but prices for these things hadn’t increased much.

"It’s okay, mom, we’re not buying a lot. What would you like? I’ll get it for you," Xu Mumu reassured her mom with a smile. She didn’t mind spending this bit of money and didn’t want to cause a scene here. This place was so well renovated, and tourists were plenty, so naturally, prices went up.

Besides, it wasn’t really that expensive, within her acceptable range.

"Sister, I want those chicken wings, and these and these," Fengfeng immediately picked several skewers of meat, with no veggies at all.

"Alright, help me hold Doudou, don’t let him run around," Xu Mumu said with a smile, then picked out some food.

Seeing Doudou’s eager expression, Xu Mumu was a bit helpless. She directly asked the vendor to grill a hot dog without chili for him.

They sat at one of the many tables set up by the barbecue vendor, all part of his stall.

"Doudou, are you thirsty? Have some water," Yin Yang brought over Doudou’s personal water bottle, pouring some water into a cup. This cup was thermal; he had prepared warm water before leaving home.

"Daddy, eat, eat," the little guy didn’t even look at the water, just stared eagerly at the barbecue grill.

Yin Yang’s lip twitched; this little guy always focused on the spicier dishes, with their intense flavors, always capturing his attention.

"Your son, you handle it," Xu Mumu said calmly. It’s a headache when this little guy throws a tantrum.

"Doudou, have some water; let grandma feed you, okay?" Li Caixia brought the cup to the little guy’s mouth, glancing at her daughter. This girl would say anything in front of her son-in-law, not fearing they’d fight.

"Grandma, no, don’t want," the little guy didn’t want water, just wanted to gnaw on that yummy-smelling thing, it smelled delicious.

"Such a foodie, don’t know who he takes after," Xu Mumu laughed and said.

"Of course, he takes after you. When you were little, any good stuff at home ended up in your mouth," Li Caixia rolled her eyes at her daughter.

Xu Mumu went silent. Alright, she had long lost favor. Ever since Doudou came along, the family doted on him. She used to be the treasure, now she’s just grass.

"Doudou can’t have that, it’s spicy," Fengfeng said seriously. He was now the little uncle, soon to be big uncle, and believed himself to be quite grown-up.

"Uncle, uncle?" the little guy pouted at his uncle, feeling wronged; even uncle wouldn’t help him.

The barbecue was served quickly. Xu Mumu handed the non-spicy hot dog to Doudou, and the little guy finally stopped fussing.

While eating, he still glanced eagerly at the plates in front of Xu Mumu and them, wanting to snag a couple of pieces.

But he was held by Yin Yang, who didn’t intend to let his son eat those spicy things. One grilled hot dog was enough; anymore wouldn’t do.

These barbecue items weren’t all that healthy, better to have less.

"Mmm, this tastes really good," Xu Mumu bit into a chicken wing, the vendor’s skills were excellent. The meat was tender and soft, and the spices were just right, the flavor was outstanding.

"Delicious, delicious," Fengfeng’s mouth was smeared with the seasonings.

Li Caixia was too lazy to wipe him; it’d be okay to clean up after they finished eating.

The family leisurely enjoyed the barbecue, Xu Mumu felt extremely comfortable, a rare moment of relaxation.

The temple’s incense offerings were prosperous, and they were still outside. Guests coming and going were a lot, and one could hear the monks chanting inside the temple. Xu Mumu felt an inner peace.

"This place seems pretty nice," Li Caixia muttered while eating, the scenery was much better, more people were around, and the place was a lot busier. The barbecue tasted really good, indeed.

"Mom, that chicken claw is mine," Fengfeng protested seeing Li Caixia gnawing on a chicken claw.

"What’s yours is mine. What’s wrong with a chicken claw?" Li Caixia calmly glanced at her son. These things weren’t healthy, better they didn’t affect him, let them affect her instead.

"Alright, I’ll have the vendor grill a couple more, okay?" Xu Mumu said gently. If not stopped, a scene of mother and son falling out might soon play out.

"Okay then, sister, pick the big ones, huh? I especially chose the biggest for mom," Fengfeng said, feeling wronged, all because mom was too excessive.

"Ahem, Mumu, have them grill a few more," Li Caixia said with a slightly evasive look. At this point, she no longer minded the price; it was truly quite delicious.
