A Hitman's Guide To Becoming A Hero
Chapter 11: The Supervisor
"A security breach has been detected. All heroes should—"
Hearing the alarm go off, Selena’s face dropped into a deep frown. "Let’s get to Dana, be fast," she said, taking the lead with hurried footsteps.
Back inside the test room, Eric also had the same expression on his face. ’An attack on the association?’ He tapped on the sides of his glasses, activating the inbuilt telecom. "Dana, what’s the update? How many attackers are there? Put the building on shutdown, no one leaves."
"Sir Eric, the attacker has already gone."
"What?"
"The attacker didn’t initiate any fight, however..." Dana took a long pause, her face turning grim as she stared at the monitor in front of her.
"Dana, what happened?!" Eric asked again, getting impatient.
"They hacked into the association’s database... Confidential information of heroes under Rank C has been obtained, plus other information that hasn’t been sent to the main database, including the new heroes," Dana said with a grim look on her face.
Eric’s look hardened as he heard the words. This was the first time something like that had happened... The security within the Association was so tight that no impure would dare come that way, and even if they did, they would be caught before anything happened. How they managed to break through this time was a wonder, and the fact that they even thought to risk it.
What could be so important... that it would have them come?
"Dana, turn off the alarms. We have to be on high alert. Send news on the forum concerning what has happened... I’ll have the council hear of this," Eric commanded, his hands balling into a tight fist.
Just as Dana was getting off the telecom, she quickly turned off the alarm as Eric ordered. Before long, she caught the sound of Selena’s clicking heels as she walked up to her.
"Supervisor Selena... It seems Sir Nicholas has completed his assessment."
"Dana, what happened?" Selena cut straight to the point, curious about what made the alarms go off initially.
Dana went ahead to explain everything that had happened and also told her what Eric ordered her to do.
Nicholas couldn’t help but frown. ’That means Katherine and Marina’s information were leaked?’ He could remember clearly that Selena had mentioned that they sent in the information of his siblings just so they could keep them safe. Nicholas didn’t respond to this, though, as he calmly listened to the conversation between the two.
"So how did the assessment go?" Dana asked, shifting her gaze to Nicholas. She couldn’t help but notice the bruises on his face.
"He fought with Sir Eric," Selena said bluntly, but Dana’s face was immediately filled with surprise.
"He fought with Sir Eric?" She glanced towards Nicholas, surprised to even see him standing. Eric was a menace known for his superhuman strength, and even those who had super strength similar to him could barely stand up against him.
Given that Nicholas was still standing with no broken bones after the fight was a surprise in itself.
"You’re really full of surprises, aren’t you? I can’t wait to see the things you’d do in the association," Dana said with a grin on her face.
{Ding!}
{+1 Charm points!}
Nicholas raised a brow as he saw the notification. ’So I get charm points when people seem impressed by my achievements? And also when they admire me?’ He was still trying to understand the mechanics of the system.
’I’ll use the Void ability more often until I get a grasp of the charm ability.’
"Alright, let’s get right to finishing your registration..." Dana said as she keyed in some information into the monitor.
"I’ve added your information into the system. You’ll have access to the Hero Forum on your phone. There, you’ll receive messages as well as see the headlines and missions... The association will reward you based on your achievements, so do well to stand out while you’re at it... You’re already doing well in that regard," Dana couldn’t help but compliment in the last line.
Selena turned her gaze to Nicholas. Keeping a professional tone, she said, "If you have any particular hero outfit in mind, you can tell Dana. She’ll help you arrange it. The association will only help you with the cost fees once. After that.... Any additions to your outfit and devices will be on you, so you better pick everything you’d need."
Nicholas gently nodded at her words.
"You’ll receive the credit alert for the 120k once you’ve accessed your profile on the Hero Forum, and your supervisor will be assigned to you by Sir Eric... You’ll receive information on that," Selena said, letting out a brief sigh. Her moment of escape was finally there... She had been stuck with the brat for hours, and just within that time, they had so much drama.
’I pity whoever his supervisor might be..’ Selena thought to herself as she calmly walked past Nicholas. "I’ll be leaving now, Dana, you take care of yourself, darling.... And you, best of luck in your hero journey."
’I hope I never get to meet you again,’ Selena silently prayed in her mind.
"Goodbye, Supervisor Selena," Dana waved her goodbye as she left. "You got on her bad side real soon..... What happened between you two?" Dana asked, letting out a chuckle. It was obvious with the way Selena was acting; she didn’t even bother hiding it.
"I don’t know, I guess she’s still angry since I touched her breast."
Dana choked on her laugh, her eyes widening in disbelief; however, Nicholas didn’t seem the least interested.
"I’ll be leaving now as well, I guess I’m done here," he added before turning to leave the building.
Dana stared at his back, lost for words before breaking into a light chuckle. ’Goodness.... This newbie is definitely something.’
Just then, the telecom on her counter rang. "Yes, Sir Eric?"
"The newbie... Nicholas, assign him Supervisor Selena. I’ll have to discuss further with the council on his case. I’ll need more information on the breach as well... something like this shouldn’t be taken lightly. A lot is at stake."
"Alright, sir!" Dana quickly replied, a mischievous grin forming on her face as she keyed the new information into her monitor.
The two passport images standing side by side, she couldn’t help but let out a giggle. "This will be fun."
