A Hitman's Guide To Becoming A Hero
Chapter 3: Hero Association
"Your boobs... they’re soft."
Selena paused for a long moment. The warmth of his hands wrapping around her boobs so suddenly left her flabbergasted, but even before her mind could process what had happened, her hands moved...
PA!
Nicholas snapped out of his daze, a loud ringing sound predominant in his ears.
’What—?’ he looked up to find the sharp violet gaze staring back at him furiously.
It only took a moment for his memories to become clearer.
’Shit,’ Nick muttered, feeling the urge to facepalm, embarrassment washing over him. ’At this point, it feels like I’m getting punished for transmigrating mid-goon.’
He turned his gaze back towards Selena, who looked down at him with visible disgust on her face.
"Who are y—" right before the words left his mouth, a golden block-shaped font blocked his vision.

"Did you bite your tongue or something?" Selena’s voice pulled him back to reality. "You meet a lady, and the first thing you do is press her boobs and say they’re soft?" Selena raised a brow, staring at him coldly.
Nicholas stared back at her blankly. "You meet a guy, and the first thing you do is slap him? I guess we’re even."
"Wh—?" Selena’s mouth parted, but words failed her, still stunned by Nick’s audacity. ’Who the heck is this guy?’
Nicholas slowly stood, dusting his clothes. ’The headache has stopped, and the lustful thoughts have faded too... must be related to the panel I saw earlier. It seems she couldn’t see it... How do I bring it back up? I’ll look into that later.’
He shifted his gaze to Selena. "What are you still waiting for?"
’Selena, breathe... calm down, he seems fine now, and the fog’s clearing up, so he must’ve awakened. He took longer than most, his ability should be a really powerful one.’ Selena let out a deep breath.
"I’m from the hero agency. A-rank supervisor, and I’m here to get more details on your awakening. I’ll ignore anything that preceded this..." she said, trying her best to keep a professional face.
Nicholas paused, turning back to the lady. "The hero agency?"
Selena could see the questioning gaze from Nicholas. ’Of course, he expects me to be some flashy costume.’
It was expected though, since many civilians didn’t understand the workings of the hero agency. All they knew were the heroes who appeared on TV screens, farming fans and support for the various districts they were signed into.
"Supervisors are a specialized group within the agency that overlook the heroes. Since you’ve successfully awakened, you’ll have to join me to the agency to have your name entered into the register. I believe you know the benefits that come with becoming a hero..." Selena straightened her posture. With her explanation, she was certain Nick would understand the gravity of his mistake from earlier and would even beg her for forgiveness. After all, she knew how eager many were to become heroes.
From the memories, Nicholas knew quite a bit about the heroes of this world. It was nothing like what an ideal hero society should be like. Basically, heroes were rewarded heavily for their good deeds. Thanks to that, a lot of people wanted to be heroes, but for Nicholas...
"How much does the agency pay?"
Selena stared at him blankly, completely caught unprepared for such a question.
"Okay, I have to ask, how the heck are you so shameless?"
All her life as a supervisor, she had encountered several awakened heroes who became heroes not because they were entirely good people, but because of the benefits that came with it. But no one came out so blatantly like the pervert in front of her.
’First, he grabbed my boobs so suddenly, and now this? How the fuck am I still talking to this guy?’
"Shameless? If I’m going to be a hero, I have to have a good reason to become one. I don’t do free service."
Looking at Nicholas’ poker expression, Selena was completely at a loss for words. "With an attitude like this, heck, I don’t even know if you’re meant to be a hero!"
’I’m a hitman.’
"Then I won’t be one," Nicholas replied with a casual shrug.
The tension outside remained. The officers stood at the edge, holding up their firearms. ’The fog has reduced... it seems the awakening is over... the supervisor isn’t out yet.’ The chief officer felt cold sweat drip down his forehead. He had a bad premonition about the current situation.
’With that amount of fog, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that he became an impure... it’s definitely a strong one. No hero is here yet either... Our weapons will be useless against a high-ranked impure... but do I keep buying time?’
"Sergeant, move the civilians further away from this scene. Clear out the space," the chief officer said after much thought.
"Stay back!"
"I want to see big brother! Let me go!" Katie’s loud voice tore through the air.
The chief officer quickly turned to the source of the sudden commotion.
"Katie, calm down. Brother will be fine," Marina said in an attempt to calm the little girl down, but it seemed the little girl had gone beyond reason.
"Katie is at fault! Katie lied to you about brother! It was Katie who wanted the knife! Waaa! I want to meet big brother!"
Marina looked at the young girl for a long minute, breaking down into tears of her own.
Just then, a flash of blue light tore through the scene, catching the attention of everyone.
Stopping right in front of the apartment was a single figure surrounded by a flash of bright blue lightning, his hands held loosely over his waist.
The figure sniffed the air and his face scrunched up.
’It stinks of plague here.’
"It’s Bolt! Fuck, it’s Bolt! We have nothing to be worried about anymore!"
’Thank God,’ the chief officer thought, seeing the figure in front of the building. A bright smile cut across his face as he let out a sigh of relief. It wasn’t just him; all the other officers finally lowered their weapons.
Bolt turned his gaze back to the crowd, flashing a smile before bolting into the building. With the distraction, following right behind him was a little girl.
"Katie?" Marina’s eyes widened. "Katie, wait!"
"I want to see big brother!" Katie yelled as she ran into the building even before any of the officers could hold her back.
A flash of blue lightning zoomed past the rooms. But it didn’t just flash by; within each millisecond, Bolt, the fastest hero of Detroit City, had scanned every room. Since he never bothered to ask the room number, in no time he stopped in Room 12.
"Supervisor Selena, Bolt reporting!" he said delightfully as he stopped in his tracks, a large gust of wind blowing past him. But seeing the supervisor’s scrunched-up face, he couldn’t help but be shocked.
Selena’s gaze didn’t shift, almost as though she didn’t notice Bolts presence.
Sigh...
She let out a long exasperated sigh, and looked Nicholas dead in the eye.
"I have to make one thing clear. I have absolutely no issues if you don’t want to be a hero, but the hero agency has a special place for people like that. So I’ll only ask politely one last time: will you be following me to the hero agency to sign up?"
