A Night of Desire
Chapter 306 - 303: In a Rush to Kick Out the Third Party
Hearing her voice again, Seth Quinn relaxed and asked, "It’s so late. You’re not asleep yet?"
Clara Grant really wanted to say, ’If you know it’s so late, why are you calling?!’
In the end, however, she just nodded. Then, realizing he couldn’t see her, she let out a soft, faint "mhm."
Her response was so brief that Seth Quinn felt like the conversation had hit a wall.
Silence fell between them once more.
After a moment, the silence felt too awkward to Clara Grant, so she opened her mouth to ask, "You called so late. Is something wrong?"
Though her voice was calm and distant, Seth’s heart filled with joy just hearing the voice he’d longed for day and night.
"Yeah." Overwhelmed with joy, his reply was clipped.
Clara frowned and asked again, "What is it?"
On the other end, Seth seemed to ponder how to answer for a moment, but ultimately gave a rather meaningless reply. "Something... important."
Clara couldn’t help but scoff inwardly. ’What could possibly be so important? Important enough to call in the middle of the night!’
"Then tell me!"
But Seth went silent again. Clara waited for what felt like ages, but he said nothing. Just as she was about to press him again, he suddenly spoke. "Come back tomorrow."
Clara’s lips parted. She wanted to ask, ’What for?’ but she snapped her mouth shut before the words came out.
She remembered—the last time she’d left, she had brought up divorce with Seth, telling him to let her know when he’d thought things through.
’So, was he calling now to tell her to go and file the divorce papers tomorrow?’
’But was he in that much of a rush? So much that he had to call in the middle of the night? Couldn’t it wait until tomorrow?’
’Perhaps he and Autumn Shelby had already made up. The happy couple was eager to finally be together, so naturally, they were also eager to kick her, the obstacle, out of the way!’
A wave of bitterness washed over Clara. To think that in just two short months, she was about to become a "divorcée," a "woman on her second marriage"...
Her full lips parted. She wanted to agree, but the words that came out were the complete opposite. "I have to film tomorrow. I can’t get away."
As if trying to prove she really couldn’t get away, she quickly added, "Yeah, it’s a very important scene. So, can we do it some other day?"
’Clara wondered if Seth would lose his temper. After all, she was the one who had brought up divorce first, and she had been the one to tell him to get in touch once he’d made up his mind.’
’And now, here she was, making excuses. It seemed a bit much.’
’But it’s true, I have a major scene tomorrow. I really can’t get away! I’m not trying to stall,’ Clara reasoned with herself.
But in the next moment, Seth’s words shattered her excuse.
"Just ask for the day off."
He was desperate to see her. If it weren’t so late, he might have driven over to see her himself.
Clara was out of excuses. Was she supposed to claim it was hard to get time off? Seth was the ultimate boss; if he said she could have the day off, she could have the day off.
’All she had to do was mention it to Director Keane, and he certainly wouldn’t stop her.’
Before Clara could figure out how to respond, Seth’s voice came over the line again. "Or, I can ask Director Keane for you?"
Clara suddenly felt ridiculous. ’He’s this desperate to get the paperwork done, so what’s the point in me trying to find excuses to stall?’
’Then another thought struck her. The reason he was in such a rush... was it because Autumn Shelby was lying right beside him at this very moment? The woman he loved most was eager to marry him. How could he possibly have the heart to say no?’
