A Night of Desire
Chapter 460 - 453: No Matter How Good He Is, He Belongs to Someone Else
Seeing him just staring at her without a word, Clara Grant grew puzzled. "Seth?" she called out.
Seth Quinn’s gaze drifted up to meet her eyes. "I’m not hungry up here," he said. "I’m hungry down *there*."
As he spoke, he even glanced down at himself.
Ugh...
Clara Grant’s cheeks flushed red. She shot him a harsh glare and snapped, "If you’re so hungry, then just deal with it! Don’t forget, you were just injured this morning! Seth Quinn, if you keep this up, you can forget about me ever forgiving you!"
Seth Quinn blinked at her again, putting on a pitiful expression, but he didn’t dare say another word.
...
Chase Childs was driving Holly Summers back to the film set. The entire trip, he was a bundle of nerves. He desperately wanted to find something to talk to her about—even just a few sentences would have been better than the dead silence and overwhelming awkwardness of them both saying nothing.
But he was, by nature, a man as stiff as a board. Outside of work, he was always quiet and reserved, never one for small talk.
On top of that, he’d never even considered, let alone experienced, anything to do with romance. This was his first time liking a girl and his first time being alone with her, which only made him even more tense.
So, after racking his brain for ages, he still couldn’t come up with what he felt was a suitable topic of conversation.
Fortunately, despite his nerves, his self-control was decent enough. He drove steadily the entire way.
As for Holly Summers, she was usually quite chatty and cheerful. But who in the company didn’t know that Assistant Childs hated talking, especially to women? ’If I try to start a conversation now, won’t I just be annoying him?’
Besides, after that time she’d mistaken him for a kidnapper trying to abduct Clara—not only pushing him but also giving him an earful—she already felt incredibly awkward around him. So she didn’t initiate a conversation either.
It wasn’t until they were approaching their destination that Chase Childs finally mustered his courage. He glanced at Holly Summers and began to speak, his voice hesitant.
"I know President Quinn is a great man. He’s exceptional, wealthy, and handsome. A man like that is bound to attract a woman’s attention. I think if I were a woman, I’d probably fall for him too."
"But, no matter how great he is, he belongs to someone else. We can’t covet what isn’t ours, because that’s not only disrespectful to them, it’s also a disservice to ourselves. Holly Summers, don’t you think I’m right?"
Holly Summers was already wondering why he was suddenly saying all this to her out of the blue. Hearing him now ask for her agreement, she grew even more bewildered and could only let out a subconscious, "Huh?"
Chase Childs took this to mean she understood him, and a hint of relief finally softened his expression.
Back at the hospital, when he saw how happy Holly Summers was that President Quinn was safe, he’d realized she must have a crush on him.
His heart sank a little at the thought, but mostly, he was just worried for her.
’It’s fine if she doesn’t like me, but she can’t fall for a married man. If she did, she’d be the one who ended up hurt and miserable!’
Besides, anyone could see how much President Quinn loved his wife. For Holly Summers to fall for a man who could never love her back and whom she could never have was a tragedy waiting to happen.
A wonderful girl like her—so full of life and playful mischief, with a smile as brilliant as the sun—didn’t deserve a love story like that.
’As long as she’s still willing to listen to reason, things aren’t so bad.’
The corners of Chase Childs’s lips curved into a barely perceptible smile. He glanced at Holly Summers again and said, "It’s good that you agree with me."
Holly Summers still had no idea what he was talking about, but she didn’t miss the faint smile playing on his lips.
Holly Summers was stunned for a moment. She couldn’t believe it. ’Assistant Childs—the man the entire company jokes can’t even smile—actually knows *how* to smile.’
’And he’s actually pretty handsome when he does!’
