A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods
Chapter 575: Temporary Home
Elaina couldn’t believe what the three said to her. That there is another world out there where demons dominate instead of the humans? That is totally something she couldn’t imagine at all.
Still, the three are innocent and are in need of temporary place to live, considering that they got caught from Silk’s trap, it is Elaina’s responsibility to help them out.
As a way of apologizing for the inconvenience, Elaina offered the three a place to stay on the farm for the time being until they are able to get a new place to stay. Until then, they are free to use the remaining vacant room on the second floor. Since the room is only for two people, Io and Arlo will be the ones who will take the bed, while Darius is fine sleeping on the floor.
Still, the devils didn’t want to stay for free, and so they suggested that they could assist around the farm with any work that they might be able to do. Elaina nodded, and it seemed that as a result, she unknowingly gained another follower.
Now, back to the world where Devils are common, and humans aren’t, to ensure that she knows the truth, she decided to speak with the God of Farming again.
"God of Farming, you there?"
"[I can tell. You want to ask me if there are other worlds other than this world, correct?]"
"You nailed it. So, is there even another world aside from this world I am currently living in?"
"[It’s hard to explain, but to make it a bit simpler for you, Elaina, it isn’t exactly another world...but a parallel world divided into the lower plane, higher plane, middle plane, and transcendent plane. The area you are living now is the Middle Plane. It is the plane where the majority of humans are the dominant race in numbers. Although monsters and other species exist, humans remain the most numerous. Based on what the guy named Darius said, they came from the Lower Plane, where the Devils and other demi-humans are the most common race. Humans are not that many, and the major power holders are the Devils themselves. They do have their own continents and kingdoms, which is why they are all confused about what happened. But considering they came from the range teleportation with a Devil’s body as the main catalyst to send them far away, instead of sending them to a distant continent, she managed to send them all to a higher plane and another continent. She both succeeded and failed at the same time.]"
"So there are other areas aside from what we know so far? Does that mean we can travel there someday?" Elaina’s eyes glittered hearing this.
"[Perhaps yes, perhaps no. What I can only say is that if you wanted to indeed visit these higher and lower planes, you need a way to conveniently change from this plane to that plane without needing to sacrifice a human life to teleport.]"
Elaina’s excitement quickly crashed down and changed to disappointment after learning about it.
"[But like I said, it isn’t impossible. Of course, be sure to have an alternative to that sacrificial thing. Death is one thing we don’t want to happen if you wanted to have an access to another place.]"
Elaina nodded. "Thanks for indulging my question, God of Farming. But what about the other two planes?"
"[It’s best I wouldn’t say what it was just yet, Elaina. Getting curious about those new places is just going to trouble your mind further. Best keep it a secret for now, and I will tell you about it someday.]"
Elaina sighed. "Alright, still, why not just say it to me?"
"[It’s not like a big secret, but it isn’t the right time.]"
Elaina tried pressing for further information from the God of Farming, but he wouldn’t budge. In the end, Elaina gave up on it and decided to just focus on finishing the clothes of Adelaide and Arthur that got interrupted due to the issues earlier.
...
...
...
The next morning, Elaina woke up early and when she got outside her room, the three Devils are already on the kitchen and are being served coffee by Raye himself.
"Morning, Raye, morning to you too, Darius, Io and Arlo. You guys are early today?" Elaina was surprised as she had never seen Raye wake up this early.
"Couldn’t sleep, to be honest, Mom. So I woke up much earlier than expected. Well, here we are, serving coffee to those who also woke up early," Raye explained.
"Sorry about that, Miss Elaina. We usually wake up early every day to finish work faster, which has become a habit for us right now. We apologize if we did disturb the peace here in your house," Darius apologized.
"Haha, no worries. Also, no need to apologize for waking up early. Only my children do not wake up early. Most of us here wake up much earlier than normal due to the things that we have to finish and to also tend to the job around the farm as soon as possible as a way to have flexibility and to be able to relax much earlier. If you work on a farm, work piles up quickly if you don’t wake up early. Gotta deal with everything before things pile up a lot.
"I agree with that sentiment, Miss Elaina. As a maid, working early allows us to finish early, and allows the rest of the day to rest and have a little bit of time for ourselves with this kind of setup. Looks like you are also doing that, which is good," Io smiled, agreeing with Elaina’s sentiments.
Raye hands Elaina a cup of coffee after he finished up heating up the coffee maker.
"Thanks, Raye," Elaina smiled.
"No problem, Mom. Although I am not sure how you usually brew your coffee, I just used my own blend to see if it suits your palate," Raye said and brewed his mug of coffee as well.
"Didn’t know you like coffee, Raye. Don’t see you drink coffee."
"Haha, I rarely drink, Mom. And I only drink when I feel like it, so it might be a rare sight for you to see me drink anything at all."
Darius, who had just started drinking his cup, was surprised the moment he sipped on it.
"Wow, that was a great coffee. Where did you get these beans, if it is not rude to ask?"
"This is a homegrown coffee. We stock our own supply of coffee, as we have a few people living here that takes their time staying up all night, so coffee became a staple ingredient present in my kitchen. We did all the work to create the coffee bean and make it as what you two are drinking today."
"I must say, it looks like we are blessed to drink such a cup. It’s sad that young master Arlo is not fond of coffee," Io sighed.
"Hey, I hate bitter things. Coffee included," Arlo defended himself.
Speaking of coffee, Elaina remembered that the coffee cherries should have matured and are now ready for harvest. Looks like she will be harvesting another set of coffee beans this time around.
Considering that Coffee beans would need to be extracted from the Coffee cherries, she will have to ask Shardu again to guard the coffee beans to drive away potential peckers of the coffee beans.
While Elaina is thinking about the coffee beans, Io decided to open the conversation.
"Miss Elaina, if I may be impolite about this, since you allowed us to stay here for the time being, would it be alright if we repay the favor by helping out with the work around the farm? I may be a maid, but I worked on the farm when I was a child, so I know how to handle farmwork."
"That is true, Miss Elaina. It is kind of rude of us not to work for our lodging, and considering we don’t have money, it would be best for us to earn our keep, yes? Of course, as long as you are fine with it," Darius added.
Hearing that, Elaina smiled. At the very least, they don’t seem to like it if they just leech off from us. They wanted to repay for the kindness we have shown to them.
"Although I have a lot of helping hands right now, more helping hands is not a bad thing. If you two are fine doing that, then I will accept that," Elaina nodded in agreement.
"What about me? Should I also help? I can help even if I have little experience," Arlo asked.
"Young Master, it would be best to sit this one out. I know you want to help, but perhaps talking with the others of your age would be a good idea? It’s not like everyone there is an adult, and Prince Raye is a bit older than you, so he should be someone you can be friends with."
Raye smiled and nodded. "I will introduce you to the other kids as well, Arlo. It’s a good thing we have another male here. It’s a bit sad that the only males in our group are Arthur and me, so your arrival is a great thing."
Although hesitant, Arlo agreed. For now, the three has decided to finally earn their keep so that they can at the very least, stay and continue living in their new Temporary home.
