Abyssal Sovereign: The Demon's Dominion
Chapter 478 - 477: Attacking the second city
"Attack!" the General commanded as loud war cries erupted across the battlefield while the army marched forward with the cavalry leading the charge.
The hooves of the horses struck the ground like war drums as they charged into battle.
But the closer they got, the slower the cavalry became as some horses suddenly stopped moving.
The creatures before them were anything but normal.
These were otherworldly monsters.
The soldiers riding the horses tried desperately to control them, but it bore no fruit as the demon army retaliated.
With a signal from Nuk, the demons marched forward as the ground trembled beneath their weight.
Growls and roars echoed from the demon army as their massive bodies blurred.
"Aahhh!"
A scream rang out, then another, as both horses and riders were ripped apart instantly.
The remaining army marching behind them was struck by a force greater than a speeding truck.
Their shields shattered as their bodies turned into meat paste.
In just the first clash, hundreds lost their lives as those standing in the middle felt their skin crawl in terror.
But retreating was impossible.
The soldiers behind continued pushing forward relentlessly, forcing them to grit their teeth and brace for impact.
Crack!
The sound of breaking bones echoed continuously as humans fell one after another while others were crushed into bloody paste, their armor breaking into pieces.
While this was happening, Nuk brought out the scale as souls floated toward him one after another.
But it still seemed too slow.
Some souls were outside its range.
So Nuk moved.
He crouched slightly before taking off.
The army gasped as they watched the demon leap over their heads directly into the city.
At the frontline, one of the soldiers widened his eyes upon seeing this.
He immediately turned around and tried to push backward, but how could one man resist thousands?
He was hopelessly shoved toward the front as he shouted desperately.
"No! No! My wife is still there! My unborn child! Let me gooo!" his eyes burned with rage as he swung his fists wildly, striking the helmet of the soldier blocking his path.
But the soldier merely grunted and continued pushing forward.
"Son..."
Seeing him breaking down, the soldier spoke calmly.
One could see a middle-aged man whose eyes were cold yet determined.
"You are not the only one with family in the city... we do too," the man paused briefly.
"But... if the demons get past us, then the city is as good as finished," he continued.
"Young man, pick up your weapon and charge to your death. At this moment, they are probably trying to escape."
"Let’s buy them as much time as we can with our deaths. Even if our bodies only slow them down for a single second," the man said firmly.
The young man paused.
Then, gritting his teeth, he turned around, grabbed the weapon of a fallen comrade, and rushed back into the battlefield with a roar.
The middle-aged man chuckled before shouting loudly.
"Charge! Die and hold them back! Make sure you take at least one with you! It’s one thousand against hundreds of thousands!" he roared from the crowd as the soldiers beside him smashed their spears against the ground.
Their fear slowly faded as the earth trembled beneath them.
With that, they charged once more.
Not to kill the demon army...
But simply to hold them back for as long as possible.
Although one demon had already entered the city, there were still a thousand remaining.
And they needed to stop them.
While all this chaos was happening...
After landing inside the city, Nuk removed the scale and smashed it into the ground.
Bammm!
The scale pierced through the stone pavement and sank deep into the earth as an enormous amount of souls rushed toward it.
Seeing this, Nuk smiled.
This was exactly what he wanted.
Turning around and properly observing the city, he was initially met with silence.
But soon, he noticed countless souls packed together, all desperately trying to escape in a single direction.
Nuk jumped several meters into the air as he approached.
Standing atop a building, he looked down at the swarming humans with a smile.
Perfect.
Very good.
Calculating the number of souls, by the end of this war he should possess millions.
Hell, once he completed the Heavenly Trial and this war ended, he might even reach the Peak of Rank 1 in a single leap.
But one thing caught Nuk’s attention.
The majority of souls were fleeing in one direction...
Yet a few, less than ten, were moving the opposite way.
This immediately piqued Nuk’s interest as he followed them silently.
It did not take long before Nuk saw them descend deep underground.
After several minutes, they resurfaced far away from the city.
Horses had already been prepared for them.
The moment they emerged, they mounted the horses and hurriedly fled.
"Ahhh... interesting," Nuk muttered as he glanced back toward the city.
Were the masses merely bait?
And these few the ones truly meant to survive?
Recalling the map the Peak Rank 0 demon had shown him earlier, Nuk’s smile widened.
That direction led directly toward the frontline.
"Ahh... fun."
"I pick you," Nuk said with a grin before moving.
---
Two kilometers away from the city...
Eight horses galloped rapidly across the land as the Malard rested comfortably, his face filled with relief.
His racing heart had finally calmed down.
They had escaped.
The moment he heard the demons had arrived, he immediately checked the war reports.
After seeing how easily his men were being slaughtered, he finally understood why the frontline had become so dangerous and why casualties were so overwhelming.
He also understood why, even when all the kingdoms, the top ten sects, and the ancient families united together, they were still losing.
His hundreds of thousands of soldiers, including hundreds of Martial Warriors, were being harvested like weeds.
Especially after hearing the reports about the Demon Lord.
Even with the strongest experts working together, they could not injure him, let alone kill him.
At best, they could only temporarily hold him back.
"When will we arrive?" the Malard asked.
"Sir, at this pace, roughly one week," one of the soldiers replied.
The Malard smiled.
"That’s good. Stop by some nice inns along the way," the Malard said as the soldiers chuckled, already understanding exactly what he meant.
