After Divorce, She Became a Global Sensation and Won't Forgive Her Groveling Husband and Son
Chapter 223: The Shermans’ Peculiar Thought Processes
Leah Evans had heard about these things too. She clenched her fists in fury.
"How can those scumbags be so vicious! They were the ones who couldn’t make it work, but in the end, they blamed it all on Sister Brianna! They’re leeches of the highest order, truly shameless!"
And wasn’t it the truth?
Back then, it was Patricia Holloway and her husband, Old Master Sherman, who had forbidden Yvonne Sherman from marrying Chad Jennings.
Old Master Sherman was already dead by then, and Patricia Holloway had silently condoned her daughter’s seduction of a married man. Afterward, when they slandered the man’s wife, she didn’t speak a single word of justice.
A debt like that had to be repaid.
As it turned out, the power of old women was not to be underestimated.
That night, news of Patricia Holloway causing a scene at Lead Aerospace began to brew online.
At first, it was only a topic of discussion among the elderly, but someone soon discovered that Patricia Holloway was Joanna Sherman’s maternal grandmother.
Joanna Sherman had previously hyped herself to the heavens, and after the scandal of two consecutive satellite failures, her name was widely known.
It soon attracted the attention of some young bloggers.
A video titled, "Grandmother of Cathan’s ’Rocket Queen’ Joanna Sherman Suspected of Slandering the Genius Behind Five Consecutive Rocket Launches," went viral.
When Sophia Shaw went live, many fans who already knew what had happened flooded in to ask her for confirmation.
"It’s true," Sophia Shaw admitted frankly.
The live stream chat room was in an uproar.
A screenshot of Sophia Shaw confirming Patricia Holloway’s slander sparked a new wave of discussion online.
When Joanna Sherman walked out from the base, exhausted from working overtime, she was immediately surrounded by a large crowd of reporters.
One after another, questions bombarded her. "Miss Sherman, are you aware that your grandmother publicly slandered and humiliated a rocket genius?"
"Are you involved in this matter?"
"We heard President Grant intends to partner with Lead Aerospace, and that the partner also strongly demanded you step down. Is this your way of retaliating?"
"Sophia Shaw successfully launched five satellites in a row, yet you can’t even get two satellites into the sky. Have you ever considered that you might be the problem?"
"..."
As Sophia Shaw was leaving the villa complex, she saw Joanna Sherman getting out of her car.
With a SLAM of the car door, Joanna Sherman strode up to her and, without a word, raised her hand to slap her.
Ms. Archer, who was holding Bun, saw this and cried out in alarm, unable to help.
Sophia Shaw moved with lightning speed, grabbing her wrist.
Joanna Sherman struggled, but Sophia Shaw didn’t let go.
Sparks flew as their eyes met.
Joanna Sherman’s face was twisted in an ugly expression as she glared viciously at her. "You’re truly despicable, using an old woman just to bring me down! Now the whole world is cursing me and laughing at me. Are you satisfied?"
Sophia Shaw watched her calmly. "Did I force her to come find me? Did I force her to slander me at the entrance of Lead Aerospace?"
"You Shermans all have such bizarre ways of thinking. You clearly cause your own trouble, but you insist on blaming others!"
With that, she shoved Joanna Sherman away. "Listen here. Go back and manage those dogs in your family, or one day your mother’s fate will be theirs!" Then she turned and left.
Joanna Sherman was so angry she was clenching her fists, roaring at Sophia Shaw’s back, "You listen to me! I will not admit defeat!"
The only response she received was the sound of Sophia Shaw starting her car.
The car sped away in a cloud of dust. Sophia Shaw didn’t even give her a glance as she left!
After a long moment, Joanna Sherman finally took out her phone and called Chad Jennings. "Where are you!"
She had come looking for Chad Jennings.
Chad Jennings had moved out of the Sherman Family home, and she couldn’t find him at Esther Sullivan’s old house either, which is why she had come here.
Chad Jennings gave her an address over the phone. She hung up, jumped in her car, and sped off.
When she arrived at the address, all she saw was a small, narrow house.
It was smaller than the Sherman Family’s tool shed.
Inside, Jay Jennings was smashing things and crying nonstop. "I don’t want to live in this hellhole! I want to go home, back to my big house!"
Esther Sullivan tried to coax him quietly, but he wouldn’t listen, his crying only getting louder.
Chad Jennings stood at the door with his head hung low. Patricia Holloway sat on a stool by the entrance, her scraped knee exposed.
She had been running in such a hurry earlier that she had fallen off a tricycle, taking a nasty spill.
Inside the house, the stove and pots were cold. The scene was indescribably miserable.
When Chad Jennings saw Joanna Sherman, he hurried over. "Joanna, you’re finally here! Hurry and get us a better place. We can’t live like this! Look, Jay’s cried his voice hoarse."
"Housing, housing, housing, is that all you think about?!" Joanna Sherman was furious with him. "Why did you tell Grandma to go make trouble for Sophia Shaw? Don’t you have a brain?"
"Do you have any idea how many people are laughing at me because of you two idiots?!"
The thought of herself working day and night only to be met with so much ridicule and doubt made the anger in Joanna Sherman’s chest threaten to explode.
Chad Jennings scratched his head in embarrassment. "It’s not like I had a choice. Your mom’s in jail, and Sophia Shaw is demanding ten million in compensation. If we don’t find a way to take her down, we’ll be left with nothing!"
"And did you take her down?" Joanna Sherman asked coldly. "You didn’t take her down. You just made a fool of yourself and dragged me down with you. Satisfied now?!"
"You can’t blame me for this," Patricia Holloway said, sounding wronged as she rubbed her injured leg.
"I wouldn’t have lost. But who knew she’d tell me she’s divorced and that you tricked Vincent Grant into signing the divorce papers. She said if I kept making a scene, she’d go to Vincent Grant and expose the whole thing."
"How could I dare keep making a scene after that?"
After speaking, Patricia Holloway looked at Joanna Sherman again. "Joanna, how could you be so foolish? Do you have any idea who Vincent Grant is? How could you scheme against him!"
"How are you going to clean up this mess!"
Although Patricia Holloway was uncultured, she had seen a bit of the world in her younger years with Old Master Sherman.
Joanna Sherman’s expression stiffened, and she turned her face away.
Chad Jennings had been about to complain, but when he heard that Vincent Grant and Sophia Shaw were divorced, his eyes lit up.
"Joanna, this is great news! Since Sophia Shaw and Vincent Grant are divorced, you can marry him openly."
"Wouldn’t that solve all our family’s problems?"
Hearing this, Joanna Sherman felt a bitter bile rise in her throat.
She had already tested the waters many times. Vincent Grant was insistent on being with Sophia Shaw, even though Sophia wanted nothing to do with him now!
Joanna Sherman couldn’t bring herself to say these words. She only said coldly, "The most important thing right now is getting those three satellites into orbit. I don’t want to think about anything else!"
Joanna Sherman couldn’t stand another minute in such a dilapidated house. She turned and walked out.
When Jay Jennings heard that Joanna Sherman had arrived, he ran out, wanting to leave with her, only to find she was already gone. He flew into a rage and started wailing again.
The noise gave Patricia Holloway a headache. She sighed, "How did our lives end up like this? This is no way to live."
Chad Jennings, however, grinned.
’Sophia Shaw and Vincent Grant are divorced. As long as something happens between Joanna and him, how could he refuse to marry her?’
Cedric Sherman came to Joanna Sherman’s residence tonight.
Ever since Joanna Sherman joined Zenith, the company had assigned her a large apartment.
One hundred and twenty square meters, bright and clean.
Vincent Grant was generous, especially when it came to spending money on talented people. Although the company had assigned it to her, it had long since been registered under her name.
Originally, Cedric Grant had loved coming here, wishing he could move in with Joanna Sherman.
But tonight, he was absent-minded. Looking at Stella Grant, he couldn’t help but think of Bun.
Bun was sturdier than Stella Grant, with a large head and springy, pink skin. His little face was so expressive, and every look was adorable, enough to make everyone burst into happy laughter.
He used to think Stella Grant was very beautiful and smart, but ever since seeing Bun, it seemed like everything had changed.
