Chapter 296: Chapter 296: Level Four Safe House

Adrian Shaw had the convoy stop in front of a small building.

He noticed that while the building was run-down, its structure was intact. The peeling paint in some areas was negligible. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"This will do,"

Adrian Shaw said.

It was a two-story building in a relatively secluded location, but there was no telling what was inside.

Nina Jacobs pushed the door open and went straight inside. "No zombies. It’s safe."

They had only taken this route because they had entered Aethelgard.

If the rescue team had been returning to City D Base, they would have taken a different road.

That was why she had decided to deploy the Safe House here.

It was also to allow Wayne Warner to level up in peace.

Besides, she hadn’t rested the previous night, so tonight she could finally get a good night’s sleep in the Safe House.

"It’s a bit empty, though. There’s no furniture inside. Looks like the owner moved out a long time ago."

Shirley Lucas remarked after looking around.

But that wasn’t a problem. He had plenty of furniture and beds in his space.

The Level Four Safe House was very spacious, but it didn’t have many rooms.

Nina Jacobs immediately used her Earth Element Superpower to create a series of stone walls, partitioning both the upper and lower floors into several rooms.

After finishing, she went outside the building and, as usual, created a circular stone wall to enclose the Safe House.

This would ensure that no zombies could get close.

"This place really feels like a home,"

Joanne Page said as she walked over.

For some reason, as soon as she entered, she felt a sense of peace.

Perhaps it was because the main door was shut tight, and there wasn’t a single trace of zombies inside.

A house like this had become a rare sight in the apocalypse.

Besides Joanne Page, the others also gathered on the first floor, eating, talking, and laughing. The scene was incredibly heartwarming.

"Yes, it’s definitely better than the last place,"

Nina Jacobs said with a nod.

This small building was one of the new skins for the Safe House, one she had never used before.

"We owe you for what happened yesterday. If you need anything at the base in the future, just ask."

Joanne Page didn’t know how to thank Nina Jacobs. Nina most likely didn’t lack anything; Joanne knew that even the base commander treated her with great respect.

But she felt it was important to show her gratitude nonetheless.

"I was also doing it for my team members,"

Nina Jacobs replied.

Her gains from this trip to Aethelgard had been enormous.

Although it was a Five-star Task, the amount of supplies in that freight center had been staggering.

Her Level Four storage grids each had a capacity of 80 square meters and were three stories high. The supplies from Mission 44 had completely filled 18 of them.

As for losses, her only ones were the Little Zombie Rats that had self-detonated or been crushed.

Fortunately, she had plenty of Superpower Energy now. As long as she had time, she could spawn Little Zombie Rats whenever and wherever she wanted.

Joanne Page chatted with Nina Jacobs for a bit longer, but her eyelids grew heavy, so she decided to turn in early.

After returning to her room, Nina Jacobs took out her Unlimited Communicator to let Vera Coleman know she was safe.

Vera Coleman replied shortly after, telling her that everything was fine back home.

That night, Adrian Shaw arranged for a night watch as usual.

They had expected to attract at least a few zombies, but by the next morning, there wasn’t a single one outside the walls.

Nina Jacobs had an early breakfast and checked on Wayne Warner, but he was clearly still in the process of leveling up.

"Just focus on leveling up. Don’t worry about anything. The longer it takes, the better it will be for you,"

she said, sitting beside Wayne Warner.

She knew Wayne Warner could hear her.

To ensure Wayne Warner could level up in peace, Shirley Lucas took out an RV from his space before they left.

"The suspension on this RV is top-notch, and it has separate sleeping compartments inside,"

Shirley Lucas explained.

"Thank you."

Nina Jacobs hadn’t expected Shirley Lucas to even have an RV.

"Of course. If Summer likes it, this one’s for you,"

Shirley Lucas said generously.

’As for RVs, I have a few more in my space anyway.’

"Okay, but it takes up too much space. It’s better to leave it with you,"

Nina Jacobs said.

’After that trip to Aethelgard, I really should use my storage grids more sparingly,’ she thought.

’I have almost ninety system storage grids, but it’s still no match for Shirley Lucas’s infinite space...’

A full night of good sleep left everyone refreshed and energetic as they set off again.

However, just as Lana and the others had warned, the closer they got to Veridia, the more zombies they encountered.

After several zombies were completely bound by rings of thunder, Adrian Shaw once again conjured several Thunder Balls and finished them off.

Adrian Shaw was very dissatisfied with his performance. ’Still too slow.’

Spending so much time on administrative duties at the base had caused his Superpower skills to stagnate, a fact he’d only realized during the recent Superpower User competition.

"Don’t be anxious. Practice makes perfect,"

Nina Jacobs reminded him from the side.

’Adrian Shaw’s Control Power over his Thunder Element Superpower is very strong,’ she thought. ’What he needs to improve is his attack power and speed.’

"Practice makes perfect..."

Watching Nina Jacobs move through the horde of zombies with fluid, graceful motions, the anxiety in Adrian Shaw’s eyes gradually faded.

"You’re right. Practice does make perfect."

Adrian Shaw conjured a Thunder Chain again, instantly restraining several zombies.

An Alloyed Zombie had its skullcap ripped off by Nina Jacobs’s Fire Roaring Blade. The Fire Roaring Blade was a Fire Attribute weapon, and when infused with her Fire Element Superpower, its sharp, fiery aura could inflict damage even without direct contact.

Joanne Page’s weapon was also a blade. She silently stared at the long sword in her hand. ’If Nina’s blade can concentrate Fire Element damage, what about my Gold Element?’

"Haha, awesome!"

After they had killed all the zombies that had surrounded them, Beckett Abbott walked up to the rest area and exclaimed happily.

Although it was only the fourth day of the mission, the team’s coordination was already remarkably in sync.

Most importantly, everyone was still alive.

"Our Captain, Nina Jacobs, is treating everyone to lunch today, so don’t forget to thank her."

Shirley Lucas took out rows of tables and chairs in a clean, open area. He even thoughtfully placed a parasol over the table for Nina Jacobs, Jessica Vance, Joanne Page, and the other women.

They planned to have lunch here.

"We must thank Captain Nina Jacobs! We always eat well when we’re with her!"

Marcus Miller said with a chuckle.

This wasn’t the first time Nina Jacobs had treated them to a meal.

The meals prepared by the base weren’t bad, but the food Nina Jacobs provided had a taste of home.

"Don’t mention it. It’s hot out. If we don’t eat it soon, it’ll spoil and go to waste,"

Nina Jacobs said.

Vera Coleman and Walsh had personally prepared all of it, so of course it tasted good.

Since it had been stored in Shirley Lucas’s space, it couldn’t be kept for too long, even with a small refrigerator.

"Miss Jacobs’s food is really yummy."

Eve gave a small thumbs-up.

This made everyone laugh.

"Looks like someone’s coming."

Rohan Calloway put down his chopsticks and looked off into the distance.

His hearing was a fair bit sharper than that of ordinary Superpower Users. A moment later, everyone else did indeed see several vehicles approaching from the direction they were headed.

"Ignore them for now. Let’s finish eating quickly."

Adrian Shaw saw that the vehicles weren’t being followed by zombies, so he sat back down.

They assumed the vehicles were just passing by, but unexpectedly, the cars changed direction and headed straight for their clearing.

SWISH! SWISH!

Several long Gold Spikes landed on the ground in front of the approaching cars.

It was Joanne Page, warning the newcomers to stop.

The vehicles screeched to a halt. As several people climbed out, Greg Unger suddenly slammed his hand on the table and shot to his feet.
