After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret
Chapter 310: Mouse vs. Mutated Python
"I’ve made up my mind," Trevor replied. "It’s not just for my teacher and the others. If the Bishop Clan wants to keep surviving here, we must kill all the Mawdrakes below!"
"Hmph, Teacher? I think you have ulterior motives, don’t you?"
They had grown up together. Lucasta Moreau didn’t believe Trevor would take a woman as his teacher for no reason.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about. A teacher is one who dispels confusion, and she is fully worthy of that title!"
Trevor’s face flushed red, but thankfully, the light was dim.
However, Lucasta Moreau still noticed his reaction.
"Oh? Then I’d like to see just how she’s worthy," Lucasta Moreau said.
Nina Jacobs didn’t bother listening to their conversation any longer. Instead, she took control of four Little Zombie Rats and had them scout the area.
Over the past two days on the road, she had used her spare time to create over thirty more Little Zombie Rats.
One of the Little Zombie Rats seemed to have reached the edge of a cliff. Nina Jacobs paused the others and focused her control on that one.
She did so because she had discovered quite a few man-made traps nearby.
’They must be to prevent Mutated Animals from getting through.’
The Little Zombie Rat skirted the large traps and reached the cliff’s edge. Just as it was about to climb down, it came face-to-face with a pair of enormous, bronze-colored eyes.
Even though it was only through the rat’s eyes, the gaze exuded an aura of death.
Nina Jacobs instantly broke out in a cold sweat.
’Something is lying in ambush below the cliff!’
She had expected the creature to destroy the Little Zombie Rat immediately, but it seemed to have no intention of attacking.
’Is it because it knows the rat is a zombie type?’ Nina Jacobs wondered to herself.
Mutated Animals were already capable of thought. This thing probably knew that attacking a Little Zombie Rat could get it infected with the virus, so it simply chose to ignore it.
Once she figured this out, Nina Jacobs calmed her nerves and continued to control the Little Zombie Rat, making it scurry to the side.
Although it was dark, Nina Jacobs could still make out what it was from the blurry stripes and faintly gleaming scales visible through the Little Zombie Rat’s perspective.
It was a mutated giant python!
Nina Jacobs didn’t know how long it had been lying in wait below the cliff, nor when it would strike, but she knew it was an extremely dangerous opponent.
This mutated giant python most likely viewed everyone in the clan as food.
Nina Jacobs frowned. ’Such a huge problem is hiding here.’
She didn’t know how to warn the others. This was clearly a Mutated Animal with intelligence and a strategic mind.
Even if she managed to lure people here, it would probably just be sending them to their deaths.
Wait a minute!
’Intelligence and a strategic mind?’
Recalling the traps scattered all over the cliff’s edge, Nina Jacobs decided to test an idea.
The Little Zombie Rat, which had already run off, turned back.
Knowing the mutated giant python wouldn’t attack it, Nina Jacobs directly controlled the Little Zombie Rat to run onto the creature’s long, massive body.
The tail was the easiest place to attack. The Little Zombie Rat ran a little further forward before suddenly opening its sharp maw and biting down!
To Nina Jacobs’s embarrassment, however, the giant python’s scales were too hard. The Little Zombie Rat’s bite had no effect, and it even chipped two of its fangs.
"..."
’I need to rethink this.’
Nina Jacobs wanted to turn this mutated giant python into a zombie giant python. Compared to the cunning of Mutated Animals, she believed zombie animals were easier to kill.
Besides, there were plenty of traps on the cliff. As long as the zombie giant python attacked, it would surely fall into them.
At that moment, the Little Zombie Rat’s attack also caught the mutated giant python’s attention.
The mutated giant python began to writhe, trying to shake the Little Zombie Rat off its body, but to no avail.
Then, Nina Jacobs controlled the rat to deftly dodge an attack from the python’s tail.
HISSSSSS.
The bright red tongue flickered incessantly. The Little Zombie Rat started using its sharp claws to pry open the scales.
The mutated giant python was enraged. It opened its massive mouth, trying to roar the Little Zombie Rat away.
’Now’s my chance!’
Nina Jacobs directly controlled the Little Zombie Rat to dive into the mutated giant python’s mouth!
The surroundings suddenly went dark. Nina Jacobs couldn’t help but curl her lips into a smile.
’Success!’
The Little Zombie Rat had successfully burrowed into the mutated giant python’s body.
At this point, another nearby Little Zombie Rat arrived at the cliff’s edge.
Soon, the mutated giant python began to convulse. Its body, which had been hanging upside down from the cliff, started to writhe in agony. Many of its scales even began to fall off.
Just when she thought the zombie giant python would immediately attack the cliff edge, it plummeted downward instead!
Nina Jacobs had the Little Zombie Rat wait at the cliff’s edge for a while longer, but the zombie giant python never reappeared.
And in the quest log for hunting Mutated/Zombie Animals she had accepted earlier, the progress bar now read: 1/50?!
’The zombie giant python is already dead?’
This was something Nina Jacobs had never expected.
’Not a bad trade,’ Nina Jacobs thought to herself. The zombie giant python had most likely destroyed its brain when it fell.
Sacrificing one Little Zombie Rat to eliminate a mutated giant python was a net gain for her, no matter how you looked at it.
Before going to sleep that night, Nina Jacobs also used the Unlimited Communicator to tell her mother, Vera Coleman, that they had arrived at the Bishop Clan’s territory.
After the mother and daughter chatted for a while longer, she drifted off to sleep.
Early the next morning, Trevor was already dressed and waiting in the courtyard in front of everyone’s building.
The clanspeople had also prepared breakfast for them there, using the newly arrived supplies.
Shirley Lucas stood on the balcony, waving to Trevor and the others below.
"Did you sleep well last night?" Trevor walked up to Nina Jacobs and asked.
"Yes, quite well."
Casually killing a mutated giant python before bed had put Nina Jacobs in a very good mood.
"That’s good. A few of the clan’s warriors will be going down the mountain with us today," Trevor explained.
Besides Shawn and Greg Unger, three other burly men were going with them.
Lucasta Moreau would stay behind to guard the clan.
"My name is Naji, a Fire Element Superpower User. They are Aaron Axton and Tamer."
The men walked up to the group and introduced themselves.
Adrian Shaw nodded. "We’ll also leave some of our people here. They’ll help out with clan matters."
They weren’t familiar with this place yet, so Adrian Shaw planned to take people down the mountain in shifts.
Of course, this was also Nina Jacobs’s suggestion. Too many people at once would make it easy to get separated.
After breakfast, Toya, dressed in the unique attire of the Bishop Clan, prayed for them with several other clan members at the altar in the center of the settlement.
They prayed for The Celestial’s blessing, asking for everyone’s safe return.
"You all have to come back safe. We’ll all be waiting for you here."
The little girl from the previous day was there too. Her name was Saina, and she ran over as soon as she saw Nina Jacobs.
They had all heard that these people were going to the bottom of the cliff to hunt Mawdrakes.
"Okay."
Nina Jacobs nodded and then followed the group.
"You just got here and you already have fans," Leo Hale said enviously. ’Being a Dual Element user is great.’
"They’ve been well protected."
Nina Jacobs still admired this clan. From the information she’d gotten from Chase Gallagher, she knew that just a short while ago, people had been starving to death every day.
And yet, these young children were able to practice martial arts and train daily.
At the very least, it was clear that the Bishop Clan was a very united tribe.
"If it weren’t for the Mutated Animals, this place would be a perfect hideout."
Leo Hale didn’t understand what Nina Jacobs meant.
But the farther he walked, the more he felt that something was wrong.
Trevor and the others had actually led them to the edge of a cliff?!
"Wh-what’s the meaning of this?" Leo Hale asked.
He glanced down and was instantly overcome with a fear of heights.
