"I wanted to surprise you. How’s that, surprised?"

Chen Feng thought, more like shocked. Fortunately, he wasn’t out with Yu Xiaohui or Guo Mengyao today, or having them over. Otherwise, if they crossed paths with his mom, he’d surely get an earful from her. If they bumped into each other, it would probably be a disaster.

"I think my mom would be quite surprised. Did you contact her?"

"I did. She’s busy at the supermarket and can’t get away. She asked me to contact you first. I was about to call you, and here you are. Quite the coincidence."

"You drove all the way here; aren’t you tired?"

She had just been bridesmaid for Pei Lei, returned to Xiu Zhou for only two or three days, and now drove all the way back.

"I’m okay, really. I took the highway, rested halfway, enjoyed the scenery along the way. Plus, being able to spend Mid-Autumn Festival with you and your parents feels meaningful."

"Have you visited your own family yet?"

"Not yet, but I’ve spoken to my parents. I’ll visit them tomorrow."

After Chen Feng responded, he said, "Let’s go inside."

Then he took out his keys, went to the door, and entered the house with Wu Mengting.

"Does Little Rui know you’re back?"

"She doesn’t. I didn’t tell her. She flew home this morning, didn’t she tell you?"

"I see. Then you can sit for a bit, I’ll go take a shower."

Chen Feng wasn’t keen on being alone with her, so he found an excuse to head to the back room for a shower.

Wu Mengting called out from behind, "After you shower, we can visit your parents together."

"Then let’s go to the town to buy groceries together, I’ll cook, and we can have a meal ready when your parents return."

"You’re a guest, how can I let you cook? We already had our Mid-Autumn family dinner yesterday. Today it’s just a simple homemade meal. If you want a grand meal, we might as well go to a restaurant."

"What kind of guest am I? I have nothing to do anyway, and I like cooking. It’s decided then. After you shower, we’ll go to the county market for groceries."

The market in their town is only open from morning to noon, and closes in the afternoon.

"Alright." Chen Feng didn’t want to argue further with her, seeing her insistence, he yielded.

After taking about ten minutes to shower and change into a fresh set of clothes, he came out.

He saw Wu Mengting talking to Guo Mengyao, both with smiles on their faces, apparently having a great conversation.

Chen Feng felt his scalp tingling suddenly.

Before Chen Feng could speak, Guo Mengyao spoke up, "Chen Feng, I came to visit your parents. But they weren’t home. I heard from Mengting that you’re going to buy groceries and cook dinner for the reunion tonight. Can I join? You won’t mind, right?"

Chen Feng was a bit unhappy about her coming unannounced, but in front of Wu Mengting, he couldn’t reprimand her and could only say, "Didn’t Mengting say this is our family’s reunion dinner? What business does an outsider have here?"

The words were a bit blunt, but Guo Mengyao was thick-skinned, smiling, "Even if I’m an outsider, I know your parents too. Considering our relationship, isn’t it normal to visit them during the festival and give them gifts, and for them to invite me for dinner?"

"What if my parents don’t invite you for dinner?" Chen Feng deliberately argued.

"Your parents can’t be that rude. Even if they forgot to invite me, isn’t there you, their old classmate?"

Chen Feng directly shook his head, "I’ll not invite you to dinner."

Guo Mengyao wasn’t angry and went to wrap her arm around Wu Mengting’s shoulder, grinning, "If you don’t invite me, Mengting surely will."

Wu Mengting only smiled without responding.

Guo Mengyao said, "Let’s make it simple, I’ll pay for the groceries."

Chen Feng didn’t want to deal with her, but in front of Wu Mengting, he couldn’t embarrass her too much, so he said, "If you insist on staying for dinner, I can’t stop you. Then, go buy the groceries now."

Guo Mengyao caught the implication in his words and asked, "What about you guys? Aren’t you going?"

Chen Feng shook his head and said, "We’re not going. You can go by yourself. If you think it’s too hard to shop alone, just forget it and go straight home."

Guo Mengyao gave Chen Feng a long look, her face slightly sullen. "Fine, I’ll go by myself and buy groceries now."

With that, she stood up and walked towards the door.

"I’ll go with you."

It was Wu Mengting who stood up and called out to Guo Mengyao at that moment.

"Oh, you’re coming with me to buy groceries?"

Guo Mengyao looked back at her in surprise.

"I don’t have anything to do anyway, so I’ll just go with you."

"Okay, let’s go together then." Guo Mengyao quickly nodded and agreed with a smile.

So, the two women went out hand in hand to buy groceries.

This left Chen Feng utterly confused, not knowing what Wu Mengting was up to.

He had deliberately been unfriendly to Guo Mengyao just now, mainly to show Wu Mengting.

But it seemed like Wu Mengting didn’t appreciate it.

On second thought, it made sense. After all, despite everything, they were still in a relationship, with no intentions of breaking up. So, what was the point?

Yu Xiaohui then asked if the three of them would still spend the Mid-Autumn Festival together at the hotel that night.

Chen Feng honestly told her that it might not happen.

Not only because Guo Mengyao had come to his house and was having a reunion dinner there that night, but also because Wu Mengting was staying over at his place, making it difficult for him to slip out that late at night.

Yu Xiaohui read Chen Feng’s reply and sent a crying emoji.

Feeling a bit guilty, Chen Feng promised to spend the day with her tomorrow.

Yu Xiaohui quickly replied with a smiling face and then said she’d head back to the city to spend the holiday with her two children.

Next, Chen Feng checked messages from several other women, but finding none worth chatting about, he continued scrolling through short videos.

About an hour later, Guo Mengyao and Wu Mengting returned with the groceries, and only then did Chen Feng move to help carry the big and small bags they had bought.

The three of them walked to the kitchen together, and once Chen Feng set the bags down, he sat back down to scroll through his phone, letting the two women handle things in the kitchen.

The two women chatted and laughed, the atmosphere was harmonious, resembling good friends, making Chen Feng feel a bit of a toothache.

He knew very well that while they weren’t outright enemies, they were definitely rivals in love.
