After my divorce, I started to have good luck
Chapter 1311 - 683: A Chaotic Brawl
Getting along like this, Chen Feng and Yu Xiaohui suddenly felt a bit like they were in a relationship.
And of course, Yu Xiaohui was thoroughly enjoying it.
Even Chen Feng wasn’t against this feeling. He didn’t really want to get married, and there was no way he’d marry Yu Xiaohui, but flirting and falling in love is a human instinct and one of life’s big pleasures. There was no reason for him not to like it.
At the same time, down in the lobby of the Yujing Hotel where the two of them were staying, the two guys who had been tailing them were waiting there.
One was named Chen Dalong, the other was named Zhang Yuesheng.
Both of them were proper university graduates with bachelor’s degrees, and both had decent computer skills.
Two years ago, they had both been recruited with high salaries by Xiangrong International Financial Services Company. The company’s name sounds impressive, claiming to be international, but in reality it was just a local loan company in Lin Nan.
They’d been recruited over in Xiu Zhou. Only when they were notified that they’d been hired did they get told they had to come work in Lin Nan. At first they didn’t want to, but they couldn’t resist how much the company was offering.
Back then, as freshly graduated college students, even though their computer skills were considered pretty good, that was only relative. With so many graduates every year, there was no shortage of people who couldn’t find a job, or who found one but the pay was crap.
After they were accepted, the company directly offered them a monthly salary of twelve thousand, plus free room and board, and if they performed well there’d be year-end bonuses and all kinds of allowances and subsidies.
They didn’t hesitate for long before coming straight to Lin Nan to start work.
To be fair, although the company wasn’t big and only had a dozen or so people on the books, its actual strength was far from weak.
When they first found out it was a "loan shark" company, they did feel a bit resistant and uneasy inside, but after they got their first month’s pay and bonuses—over ten thousand—the feeling faded more and more.
After staying in the company for a few months, they gradually blended into this financial firm and became part of a very profitable operation.
At first, the two mainly did office work. Chen Dalong was responsible for maintaining the company website and mini-program, while Zhang Yuesheng designed various promotional posters, flyers, business cards, and did some online marketing. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Later, as the company’s local business grew, they were gradually roped in as extra muscle and sent out into the field, acting as something like investigators and paparazzi. Their salaries rose accordingly, and now, with base pay plus allowances, subsidies, and commissions, they could pull in over twenty thousand a month. If the company performed well, they could get tens of thousands more in year-end profit sharing.
Just like that, they could earn two to three hundred thousand a year. For college grads only two or three years out of school, that definitely counted as doing very well.
So the two of them really cherished this job now, and as for guilty consciences and that sort of thing, those were long gone.
And as they got more and more experienced with the "investigator" work and the money kept increasing, they actually started to love the job.
Even now, with the two of them having waited in the hotel lobby for over an hour, they weren’t the least bit impatient, completely at ease.
"What did they say over there?"
Playing on his phone, Chen Dalong asked Zhang Yuesheng.
The two often worked as a team. Zhang Yuesheng was a bit older and more capable in the field, so he usually led. "Nothing special, just told us to keep watching. If you ask me, there’s an eighty percent chance they won’t be coming downstairs tonight," Zhang Yuesheng replied.
Chen Dalong suggested, "Then why don’t we just take turns waiting? You go drive the car over, and we can swap out resting in the car."
Just as Zhang Yuesheng was about to say something, he saw a WeChat message from their boss, Bian Xiangrong, saying the company would send someone to take over, and once the replacement arrived they could head back.
Zhang Yuesheng handed the phone to Chen Dalong to take a look, and both of them couldn’t help but smile and exchange a look.
After they’d joined the company, aside from the first few months doing office work, most of their time had been spent as investigators, out in the field, responsible for tailing people, tracking targets, and other support work.
Sometimes they’d tail someone for days on end, just like those paparazzi who stalk celebrities—really exhausting.
Like right now, Chen Feng and Yu Xiaohui were having fun in their hotel room, while the two of them could only take turns resting in the car, afraid of losing their target. It was genuinely tough.
If they could go back and sleep comfortably, there was no way they’d want to stay here on stakeout all night.
After they waited another ten minutes or so, they got the message that they could pull out.
So they happily walked out of the hotel and easily spotted the coffee-colored Wuling Hongguang parked by the curb across from the hotel entrance.
This car was the company’s standard vehicle for field staff. It could haul several people at a time and was very flexible.
The two of them waved over there in greeting, then headed to the left toward their motorcycles parked by the side of the road.
Each of them was carrying a helmet. Just as they reached the bikes and were about to put the helmets on, several people suddenly appeared and surrounded them.
They were all young punks, dressed fashionably and edgy. Two of them had dyed hair and earrings, and there was even a girl who looked like she was only seventeen or eighteen, with a nose ring.
"You motherfucker, was it you last time?"
One of the dyed-blond punks pointed at Chen Dalong and loudly questioned him.
The blond kid looked about twenty. His features were actually decent, but his eyes were vicious and his expression arrogant—one look and you could tell he was the type with a twisted personality.
Being jabbed in the face like that, of course Chen Dalong was pissed off, and on top of that he was completely baffled. He glared and shot back, "The fuck are you talking about? What ’last time’? I don’t even know you."
"You don’t fucking know me? I don’t know you either, but I know this bike of yours—a Kawasaki Z900. And this plate, I remember that real clearly."
Chen Dalong froze and looked at Zhang Yuesheng. This motorcycle was the secondhand bike Zhang Yuesheng had bought a few days ago.
Even though it was secondhand, Zhang Yuesheng had still paid over seventy thousand for it—that was the price after the previous owner had ridden it for more than half a year; brand new it would’ve been around a hundred twenty or thirty thousand.
Frowning, Zhang Yuesheng picked up the thread: "This bike is mine, but I only bought it from the previous owner a few days ago. If you’ve got some beef with him, go find him. Don’t come to us. You’ve got the wrong people."
The blond kid let out a cold chuckle. "You think I’m gonna buy that? You were wearing this exact helmet that time. Red, with a dragon on it. And your height and build are about the same. You telling me that’s just a coincidence?"
As annoyed as he was, Zhang Yuesheng didn’t want to take the rap for someone else. He forced down his anger and said, "This helmet was thrown in by the guy who sold me the bike. My height and build are about the same as his, sure, but we’re really not the same person. You’ve got the wrong guy."
Only the more Zhang Yuesheng denied it, the more the blond kid was convinced. The more he explained, the more the blond kid flew into a rage, cursing, "Fuck your mother, you think I’m that easy to fool?"
