After the Divorce, I Unlocked a Perfect Life
Chapter 60: There’s No Such Thing as Drunken Debauchery
Combat Mode?
[Once Combat Mode is enabled, the player will automatically enter combat when an enemy or wild monster enters an aggro state.]
’This is kind of interesting.’
In games, generating aggro meant a fight was about to start.
This mode was exactly like a video game.
Just then, Lin Jiang saw red text appear above the man’s head.
[Level 1: Ma Zanyou, Martial Force: 11]
Lin Jiang pulled up his own status panel.
[Name: Lin Jiang]
[Skills: Culinary Skill (Basic), Fighting Technique (Basic)]
[Attributes: Physique 15, Comprehension 15, Charm 21]
[Martial Force: 14]
[Item: Choice Card]
[Treasure Chest: 40/100]
’With stats like these, how could I not wipe the floor with him?’
"Lin Jiang, just ignore him. Let him go," Qin Yangyang said, pulling on Lin Jiang’s arm.
"If we let him go, he’ll just come back to threaten you again. We have to catch him to prevent any future trouble." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"You fucking want to catch me? I think you’re tired of living!"
Ma Zanyou pointed at Lin Jiang. "If you fucking move an inch, I’ll kill you!"
Having said that, Ma Zanyou turned and ran. His objective was achieved, and he didn’t dare to actually do anything to Lin Jiang.
"You think you can fucking run?"
Lin Jiang gave chase, brick in hand.
Even while carrying something, he was much faster than Ma Zanyou.
"Shit!"
Knowing he couldn’t outrun Lin Jiang, Ma Zanyou stopped and brandished a fruit knife.
"Go to hell!"
Just as Ma Zanyou stopped and aimed the knife at Lin Jiang, his vision suddenly went black. The brick had smashed into his face!
"Fuck!"
Ma Zanyou was dazed from the impact and nearly fell over.
Lin Jiang seized the opportunity to kick the fruit knife from his hand, grab his wrist, and pin it behind his back, easily subduing him.
"Let me the fuck go!"
"Let you go, my ass! Stay put!"
[You have defeated an enemy. Martial Force +1.]
Seeing the danger had passed, Qin Yangyang hurried over.
"I called the police. They’ll be here soon."
"Good."
Looking at Lin Jiang and Ma Zanyou, Qin Yangyang was first filled with lingering fear, and then with gratitude.
’If it weren’t for him, I might have been threatened by this man. The consequences would have been unimaginable.’
Before long, the police arrived.
After assessing the situation, they took everyone to the police station.
Lin Jiang wasn’t needed for what came next. Qin Yangyang could handle the discussions with them.
But after waiting for a long time, he still hadn’t heard the mission completion notification.
’Could there be another complication?’
About an hour later, Qin Yangyang returned.
"Is everything taken care of?"
"Mhm," Qin Yangyang nodded.
"In that 500 million fraud case, the suspect is named Zhou Wenli. This man, Ma Zanyou, is her maternal uncle. He did this so he could live a good life with his niece."
"He must be dreaming. She’ll be taken down the second she shows her face, yet he still dares to have ideas about that ill-gotten money?"
"Their legal awareness is a bit weak, which is understandable," Qin Yangyang said.
"And everything he did was at the behest of Zhou Wenli’s mother. The police are organizing an arrest now, so there should be results soon."
’No wonder there was no notification.’
’So there were accomplices.’
"We should be done here now, right? Can we go back?"
"Mhm."
The two of them walked out of the police station. Lin Jiang drove Qin Yangyang home.
During the drive, Qin Yangyang’s emotions were in turmoil. An indescribable sense of security left her feeling unsettled for a long time.
"Your hand is scraped. Come upstairs with me, I’ll take care of it for you."
He glanced at the back of his hand. There was a small cut, probably from accidentally scraping it against something.
"That’s a difficult request for a shy person like me."
Qin Yangyang tilted her head up to look at Lin Jiang, her expression a little haughty.
"Are you sure you’re a shy person?"
"I’m extremely shy. Years ago, I’d blush just talking to a girl."
"Hmph. It’d be more believable if you said you had depression."
Qin Yangyang grabbed her bag. "Let’s go. It’s not serious, but it is bleeding. It’s better to treat it."
"Okay."
A little bit of joking was fine, but repeating the same line would just make it boring.
After parking the car, Qin Yangyang went to the pharmacy by the entrance and bought some povidone-iodine, hydrogen peroxide, and gauze. Then the two of them went home together.
Qin Yangyang’s home was a rented apartment in the Century Triumph building.
The apartment was simply decorated, and much of the furniture was unique and niche.
There was no television in the living room. An entire wall had been converted into a bookshelf, filled with books on law and some detective novels, a few of which Lin Jiang had also read.
To a certain extent, the decor reflected the owner’s personality.
Some people liked to have lots of books at home, while others liked to install grab bars in the bathroom and by the windows.
You couldn’t simply say one was better than the other; it all came down to personal preference.
"Hold out your hand, let me see."
Lin Jiang sat on the sofa and held out his hand.
’It’s just a small scrape on the back of my hand. Doesn’t even hurt. Rich people really like to make a big deal out of nothing.’
"This won’t do. We need to clean it first."
Qin Yangyang pulled Lin Jiang’s hand and led him to the bathroom. Even though she lived alone, the place was very neat and tidy.
What really caught the eye was a sports bra and some black underwear. In that department, Qin Youyou was a couple of sizes smaller.
"It’s like your eyes have a built-in tracking device for things like this."
Qin Yangyang calmly put the clothes away. "You just said you were shy. Not so shy now that you’ve seen these, are you?"
"People are always curious about the unknown. It’s only human nature," Lin Jiang said with a straight face.
"I knew you wouldn’t admit it. Come here and rinse the wound, then I’ll put some iodine on it for you."
"Alrighty."
At the sink, Qin Yangyang rinsed Lin Jiang’s wound with clean water, then applied some hydrogen peroxide and povidone-iodine.
Qin Yangyang wanted to wrap it with gauze for Lin Jiang, but he refused.
It was just a scrape; disinfecting it was enough. Wrapping it in gauze would be a bit girly.
But at Qin Yangyang’s strong insistence, he still ended up with several bandages on it.
"You barely ate anything during dinner. Are you hungry?"
"I didn’t feel it before, but now that you mention it, I am a little hungry."
"I have alcohol at home. How about we order some food and have a little drink?"
"That sounds perfect."
"Wait for me a bit. I’m going to take off my makeup. I’ll be right back."
"No rush."
Qin Yangyang went to her room, and Lin Jiang played on his phone on the sofa.
About ten minutes or so later, the doorbell rang.
DING DONG—
DING DONG—
"Someone’s here," Lin Jiang called out.
Qin Yangyang’s voice came from her room, "It’s the takeout I ordered from downstairs. Can you get the door for me?"
"Sure."
Lin Jiang got up to open the door and found the community security guard standing there.
The guard was taken aback when he saw Lin Jiang. "Uh, the things President Qin ordered have arrived."
"President Qin?"
"I ordered it," Qin Yangyang said from her room.
Lin Jiang looked at the guard. "You can just give it to me."
The guard gave Lin Jiang a meaningful look and handed the items over, which included a case of beer.
"Why did the security guard call you President Qin?"
"I hold a vice president position at my company. They know I live here, so they always call me President Qin when they see me."
"I see."
"Your family lives in 2401, right? I’ll talk to the security guards tomorrow so they’ll pay special attention to your family’s needs from now on," Qin Yangyang said.
"Oh, right. Your car hasn’t been registered in the community’s system yet, has it? Tell me your license plate number in a bit."
"Thank you for your consideration, President Qin."
"Stop teasing me. You’re the one who bought a hundred-million-yuan house. I can’t compare to you. Just call me Xiaoqin," Qin Yangyang said jokingly.
"My uncle calls my aunt Xiaoxian. That name has a real old-timey feel to it."
"I didn’t think anything of it before, but hearing you say that makes me feel like I’ve aged twenty years."
As they were talking, Qin Yangyang came out of her room.
She had changed into a loose pink T-shirt and a pair of gray sweatpants, the drawstring hanging loosely at her waist, giving her a relaxed vibe.
With the food and drinks ready, Qin Yangyang raised her glass.
"Thank you so much for today. If it weren’t for you, I can’t imagine what would have happened."
"It was just a coincidence."
"How did you spot him?"
"I saw his car when we were leaving the barbecue restaurant. Then on the way, you were dawdling and talking so much that I felt something wasn’t right," Lin Jiang said.
"After you two got out of the car, I saw that car again. The person inside was furtively following you. I was worried you two might be in danger, so I decided to follow and see. I didn’t expect he was actually after you."
Lin Jiang’s attentiveness touched Qin Yangyang’s heart.
"So you were worried I was in danger, right?"
"Yeah."
"Thank you."
"You’ve already said ’thank you’ many times. It’s getting a bit repetitive."
"Okay, I won’t say it anymore."
They ate and chatted, and Lin Jiang discovered that Qin Yangyang was a great conversationalist. She could keep up with any topic, except for video games.
"It’s almost midnight. Let’s finish our drinks. I should get going so I don’t keep you from your rest."
Qin Yangyang wasn’t a very good drinker. She was already propping her head up with one hand, looking dizzy.
"Your apartment probably doesn’t have any furniture yet, right? You’ve been drinking, so just stay here."
Qin Yangyang stood up, her steps already a bit unsteady. She walked to the door of the guest room.
"The other room is where Youyou stays. You can stay in this one."
"For a shy person like me, this is quite a test."
A mischievous smile appeared on Qin Yangyang’s face.
"Don’t worry, nothing will happen. You should know yourself."
"The way you say that, it’s like you’re calling me less of a man."
"No. From a physiological standpoint, when you drink too much, you can’t get a reaction. So there’s no such thing as drunken debauchery."
’Such a rational woman.’
"I’m heading to bed first. Good night."
"Good night."
