Age of Wizards: I Can Analyze All Things
Chapter 182 - 119: The Devouring Ability, the Wizard World’s Strongest Magical Pet (Part 2)
Nymph and the other four Water Sprites were stunned for a moment, then immediately began nodding in delight.
"Yes, Sir!"
’As long as they weren’t used as experimental subjects, they would do anything.’
Seeing this, the unease on the faces of the Wood Elf and the Withered Leaf Fairies eased considerably. They looked at Pei Ze expectantly, hoping they too would be assigned normal jobs.
And Pei Ze’s next words allowed them to breathe a sigh of relief.
"In a little while, I’ll be starting a garden in the mansion to grow some rare plants. Your job will be to take care of them. Until then, you can help by cleaning the mansion."
The Wood Elf and the Withered Leaf Fairies excelled at tending to rare plants. This kind of work was second nature to them, so upon hearing this, they all accepted with great joy.
"I don’t like to mistreat my servants, provided you work hard and don’t get any funny ideas."
Pei Ze waved his hand.
"Alright. Go and familiarize yourselves with your surroundings. Start work as soon as you can."
The elf and the fairies hurriedly bowed to Pei Ze, then left the courtyard with a spring in their step.
Although becoming slaves was a terrible thing, the silver lining was that their master seemed to be a powerful yet gentle person.
’Perhaps the days ahead won’t be too difficult.’
Pei Ze had already integrated the auras of the elf and the fairies into the core of the Protective Array, so he didn’t have to worry about them triggering any of the warning traps.
Just as he was about to return to his Meditation, Xiaoyi suddenly grabbed onto his ear and let out a flurry of squeaks.
"...You want me to put you in charge of the Withered Leaf Fairies?" Pei Ze’s brow twitched. "Why?"
"Squeak squeak!"
Pei Ze was momentarily speechless. The little one actually wanted to satisfy her craving to be a boss.
"Suit yourself. As long as it doesn’t interfere with their work, you can do what you want. But don’t bully them too much."
"Squeak squeak!" Xiaoyi declared, patting her chest in assurance. Then, she excitedly chased after the Withered Leaf Fairies.
In this mansion, both Pei Ze and Wuyu were much stronger than she was.
For the longest time, she had held the lowest status in the household.
But now, with the addition of new members, that was about to change.
’Forget the ’enormous’ Wood Elf and Water Sprites. But the Withered Leaf Fairies, who are about my size—aren’t they the most suitable underlings?’
’From this day forward, I’ll be a fairy with my own underlings!’
Watching Xiaoyi’s figure disappear around the courtyard corner, Pei Ze chuckled and shook his head.
Just then, there was a noise outside.
Pei Ze sent out a wisp of his Spirit to scan the area, and his eyes immediately lit up.
’The crow-family Magical Creatures I ordered have arrived!’
...
In the brightly lit Magic Laboratory.
Countless cages were packed so tightly they nearly filled the entire room.
The crow-family Magical Creatures locked in the cages seemed to sense something, restlessly flapping their wings and letting out sharp, ear-piercing caws.
Every so often, they would attack the bars with their sharp beaks or talons, trying to break open the cages and escape.
Unfortunately, they had all been fed a special drug that temporarily sealed their spell-like abilities. Relying on their beaks and talons alone, they had no way of breaking through the specially-made, hardened cages.
Amidst the agitated flock, only the two Netherworld Crows remained quiet, their cold eyes calmly surveying their surroundings.
It was as if they had already foreseen the arrival of death, yet they accepted this fact with unnerving calm.
Pei Ze summoned Wuyu, stroking the little creature’s glossy black feathers.
"Go on. If you succeed, you will be the familiar with the most potential in the world."
Wuyu cawed, affectionately pecking Pei Ze’s cheek. It then dissolved into a wisp of black mist, shot out like a sharp arrow, passed through the bars of a cage, and struck a Red-eyed Crow.
Before the Red-eyed Crow could react, its body was enveloped by the suddenly expanding black mist, instantly becoming a black cocoon.
The surface of the black cocoon bulged a few times before quickly falling still.
Pei Ze stared intently at the black cocoon, waiting patiently.
After about four or five minutes, the black cocoon abruptly disintegrated into countless wisps of black mist. They passed through the cage and coalesced outside, reforming into Wuyu.
Pei Ze’s gaze flickered.
Through his connection to Wuyu, he could feel that some kind of change had occurred in the familiar, but it was so faint he suspected it might just be his imagination.
Pei Ze then had Wuyu produce a Fog Crow. After a quick inspection, he found that aside from a barely noticeable increase in its combat strength, there were no other changes.
This result was not enough to satisfy Pei Ze.
He immediately ordered Wuyu to continue absorbing the Red-eyed Crows.
Wuyu executed the command without hesitation. Its body instantly disintegrated into wisps of black mist that shot out in all directions like exploding fireworks, each one entering a different iron cage.
Instantly, the piercing caws of the crows diminished by more than half.
Over a hundred black cocoons suddenly appeared in the Magic Laboratory.
This time, the absorption took a little longer. Nearly ten minutes passed before all the black cocoons dissolved into mist and converged, re-forming into Wuyu.
This time, Pei Ze clearly sensed the change in Wuyu.
’Its power and speed have been noticeably enhanced!’
’And this... is the Red-eyed Crow’s ability to see through an Illusion Technique!’
A look of delight appeared on Pei Ze’s face.
Wuyu’s transformation undoubtedly confirmed his theory.
’The little creature really can assimilate Red-eyed Crows, and it can copy—no, it’s more like it devours their abilities!’
’The reason I didn’t see a change before was that the number it devoured was too small for the ability to manifest.’
Pei Ze took a deep breath to suppress the wild joy filling his chest, stopping himself from shouting out in excitement.
The implications of Wuyu’s new ability were self-evident.
With enough crow-family Magical Creatures, he could mold Wuyu into the most powerful familiar in the Wizard World!
"Well done!"
Pei Ze praised Wuyu, patting its head, then had it produce another Fog Crow.
As expected, the Fog Crow had also inherited the Red-eyed Crow’s ability to see through an Illusion Technique.
However, compared to Wuyu itself, the Fog Crow’s ability was noticeably weaker.
Still, Pei Ze was more than satisfied.
’After all, Fog Crows have always relied on numbers to overwhelm their enemies. It doesn’t matter if their individual combat strength is a little weak.’
"Continue. Devour the remaining Magical Creatures," Pei Ze said with a smile.
Wuyu cawed and began a new round of consumption.
Having lost their spell-like abilities, the Netherworld Crows and Funeral Crows were powerless to resist Wuyu’s encroachment and were soon devoured completely.
The more than one hundred crow-family Magical Creatures that had filled the cages were wiped out in an instant, all becoming fodder to enhance Wuyu’s power.
Having returned to its original form, Wuyu tilted its head back and let out a cry. In that instant, an unbearably piercing sound wave swept through the entire Magic Laboratory.
With it at the center, the air within a five-meter radius visibly distorted.
’A sonic ability!’
Pei Ze’s eyes lit up, but he quickly shook his head.
’The power is still a bit lacking. It’s probably because it hasn’t devoured enough Funeral Crows.’
Even devouring over fifty Funeral Crows wasn’t enough to inherit the complete ability, to say nothing of a mere two Netherworld Crows.
There wasn’t the slightest sign of the Power of Death manifesting in Wuyu.
Pei Ze wasn’t in a hurry, though. As long as he confirmed it could devour and inherit abilities, that was all that mattered.
’The missing numbers could be made up for eventually; it’s just a matter of time.’
’The Power of Death is considered top-tier among the many spell-like abilities. If Wuyu can inherit it, its combat effectiveness will absolutely skyrocket.’
Pei Ze pondered for a moment before quickly making a decision.
’I still haven’t requested my reward for the trial from the Dawn Council. I might as well ask for it all to be converted into Netherworld Crows.’
’Netherworld Crows are not only expensive but also rare. If I have to rely on myself to slowly search for and collect them, there’s no telling how long it would take to gather enough.’
’I might as well have the Dawn Council gather them for me.’
As for the other crow-family Magical Creatures... Pei Ze soon had an idea.
’I’ll just commission Tong Ming to help me collect the crow-family Magical Creatures.’
’As long as the pay is good enough, Tong Ming definitely won’t refuse.’
’That way, it won’t hinder my own progress in increasing my strength.’
