Chapter 263: Marcus wasn’t Alpha’s Son

Zyair

Who is this wolf?

And why does he look so much like Doran?

Could it be a coincidence?

After digging through old company photos, I found his name. Marcus is not Alpha’s son. I knew Doran had no siblings, so he couldn’t be directly related.

Maybe a cousin’s son? It was time to dig deeper. Turning to Ryan, I said, "Ryan, I want you to find out everything you can about this Marcus."

Ryan nodded immediately and got to work.

I was on the verge of going crazy. The wheels of my mind were spinning as I planned my next move.

The kidnapper had given me a deadline: tomorrow. We had to find Zara before then, otherwise I would be forced to reveal the secret we’d kept for 25 years.

I didn’t object; nothing was more important to me than my daughter, but I didn’t trust her kidnapper. There was no guarantee he’d let her go, even if I told him what we’d done.

And he was smart; he knew I wouldn’t go to the police with this information.

Detective Pimber’s call brought my attention back to my phone. I swiped my finger across the screen and quickly answered.

"Detective Pimber speaking," came his hoarse voice.

"Yes! Any news?" The anticipation of any news regarding my daughter made my heart beat faster.

"Actually, yes. We’ve retrieved data from Zara’s cell phone. It appears there’s a man named Marcus. He’s the last person she spoke to and asked to meet. We’re continuing our investigation and will keep you updated on anything we discover."

My ears rang with this new information.

This was an unexpected turn of events. I’d just told Ryan to find out more about Marcus, and now it turns out he was the last person Zara spoke to and met with before she disappeared.

Could Alpha have used him to kidnap Zara?

"So you’ll check his house too, because my daughter’s time is running out?" I wanted to shout at the detective, but I kept my composure and merely squeezed my thigh with my free hand.

"For that, we’ll need a search warrant from a judge. He’s currently a suspect. The communications company told us someone recently attempted to hack into their system, most likely to either delete data or steal it. So we’re waiting for that, too. As soon as they track down the IP address of the person who tried to hack their servers, they’ll let us know. If the information matches, we’ll take action against Macus."

This meant all they could do was wait. Zara might not have enough time.

"And how long will it take?" I asked, trying to contain my anger.

"Maybe another day or two," the detective replied calmly.

Alpha has already disappeared, and Marcus will too if we don’t do something. It’s time to take matters into our own hands. Because the police will act according to the rules.

"I would appreciate it if you expedited the process."

"Your daughter’s case is our top priority right now. We’re working day and night and will continue to do so until we find her. Please don’t lose faith in us." Detective Pimber ended the conversation after that, but I wasn’t satisfied.

I turned to Ryan and told him the situation. He scratched the back of his head and said, "I see. Here, look."

He’d gathered some information about Marcus, so he pressed his lips together and handed me his phone. I should have been shocked, but nothing could faze me anymore.

My eyes couldn’t believe what I was reading.

Marcus was the son of Karen Whittle, Doran’s mistress and secretary. This proved that Karen must have been pregnant with Doran’s child when he kidnapped my mate, or had become pregnant during that time. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

This explained why Karen had been released from prison and disappeared. It also shed light on the reason we’d kept her whereabouts a secret.

She’d created a life for herself and raised a son to get revenge?

Did Alpha know who they were?

Did they concoct some story for him and ask him to help with this twisted plan?

"It seems she raised the child solely for revenge. I wonder if she knows what we’ve done?" Ryan asked, but not with fear. More out of curiosity.

I shook my head. "That’s highly unlikely. I think they just assume we did something to Doran. Because, as you know, he was never found."

Ryan nodded. There wasn’t the slightest hesitation on his face. "So should I prepare?"

"Yes, we will get my daughter back. One way or another, even if it’s the last thing I do," I answered grimly, the pain in my heart growing.

That bloody image of her face kept playing in my head, and I didn’t dare to face another such image.

"We will get Zara back. Don’t lose faith." He stood up and clapped me on the shoulder.

"Whatever happens, just get Zara out." Ryan nodded encouragingly and left the room.

I remained lost in this new reality.

The phone rang, and I checked the caller ID.

It was Lawrence.

"Hello! How are you? Any news? Just heard from Ryan. Damn, you should have told me. I’m so sorry." He spoke as if in pain, blurting out one word after another.

I was so absorbed in my search that I couldn’t contact anyone.

"I know, but my mind is too busy. We’re getting closer. I hope I have answers soon," I replied, looking out the window of my hotel.

It had started to snow, tiny flakes falling from the sky, painting everything white and eerie.

"I’m with you, man. You know that. Bring Zara home, and if you need anything, just call. You’re not alone." Lawrence had always been there for me, just like a brother.

"I appreciate you, Lawrence." Before my voice could even falter, I ended the call.

My eyes stared blankly at the snow.

Tonight, we were going to sneak into that bastard’s house and get my daughter. My gut feeling told me Marcus had kidnapped her.

I didn’t care about the police or the rules.

The phone rang again, and I noticed it was an unknown number. My jaw instantly clenched, and fury flashed in my eyes. I bet it was him again.
