Chapter 285: Taking it back (3)

"What will happen to my father’s soul and body? Do you plan to start living as my family?" Regina asked.

"If you try staying in a body that does not belong to you, you will lose yourself and go on a rampage attacking humans. Is that the kind of life you want for yourself and your family? With all the souls tied to this house being freed, Grimms will start to show up to lead them from this world. It won’t end well for your souls in the underworld if they find you in this body," Auror explained to the soul.

Aurora knew about this from her time at Artemis’s side. The night Goddess was good friends with the devil and had a lot of information about the underworld.

"Is that so? We have no intention of pretending to be something we are not. I will not stay in this body for long. For more than one hundred years, we have been trying to leave this world so that we can hopefully reincarnate and meet each other again as a family. I pray that the house being destroyed will free us or that the Grimms can drag us from this world. I will leave you now. I must protect where we were buried from the fire."

"I will tell the story of what happened to your family if that might make you and your family move on from this world," Regina spoke up. Her family’s lies should be exposed and the real Hamiltons remembered.

"You would ruin your reputation for the dead? That is interesting. That is why I have always liked you. The one who was never afraid to speak her mind. You don’t need to go that far. We are satisfied with our home no longer belonging to anyone else," the soul inside Nathaniel’s body turned down the offer.

The truth being exposed would only disturb them when they were finally going to be able to sleep peacefully.

"I’m sorry," Regina apologized. "I’m sorry for what happened to your family. You might not wish to hear it but I know someone from my family should apologize to you. I won’t try to take anything from here so please trust me with maintaining the land so that your graves will be taken care of. It will be kept safe until the day you are reborn and your memories bring you back to what belonged to you."

"Thank you. Please keep your word. It is time we leave," Nathaniel looked behind Regina at something in the distance.

Regina looked around and saw nothing but Aurora and Vincent could see the Grimms starting to appear to lead souls into the underworld. While the three of them were distracted, Nathaniel’s lifeless body dropped to the ground as the soul no longer occupied it.

Regina went to its side to close her father’s eyes. "Sleep well, father."

She hoped that after this chaos, she could find the other bodies belonging to her family to bury them all together. With the exception of Minnie, they were all deserving of getting laid to rest.

"Vincent and I will help you with his when the fire dies down. We’ll also look for you mother and Samuel," Aurora placed her hand on Regina’s shoulder to comfort her.

"It might’ve been better if you had killed them. Then their souls wouldn’t have been taken from their bodies," Regina rubbed away tears from her eyes. "What if they try to haunt me?" She joked to hide how sad she felt.

She was angry with them but she cared for her family. Why couldn’t they have listened to her for once? They would have been standing beside her right now if they did.

Regina held onto hope that Samuel and her mother got away. If they were to run into any souls, Regina hoped they would have the common sense to beg for forgiveness and give everything back before their lives could be taken.

"Vincent, we need to make sure Timothy completed his part of the plan without getting hurt. Can you hunt him down to check he caught everyone we need him to and have him meet up with us," Aurora said partially because she wanted to make sure the plan went well but more importantly, she wanted Timothy by Regina’s side.

Vincent nodded before running away to quickly search for Timothy a6o he could quickly return to Aurora’s side. He felt relaxed now that her bad ties to this place were severed. Anyone wishing to hurt her was gone. Now, they could settle down back home and move on with their lives now their biggest enemies were gone.

Aurora felt bad for Regina but disagreed about her being the one to kill Rachel, Samuel, and Nathaniel. Seeing how sad Regina was right now, Aurora would not have been able to bear the guilt of being the person to take away Regina’s family.

At a time like this when Regina lost everything, Aurora would not leave her any time soon. Even if Vincent would have to return home early without her. She would stay as long as Regina needed her.

Regina gave up tearing to wipe away her tears. She sat on the cold ground watching the only home she knew for many years but to the ground. She watched the servants run out screaming because of the fire and kept getting her hopes up when someone who looked like Samuel or her mother ran out.

Aurora sat down beside Regina and asked, "Do you regret it? Coming back with me or taking my side-"

"Of course not. I stand by your side and even with my family’s sad ending, I wouldn’t change how the night ended. Besides," Regina wiped all her fallen tears away. "I always had a feeling it would just be you and I one day. We were the stars of this twisted family."

"We most definitely were," Aurora agreed with Regina. She was surprised by how their bond remained intact throughout all of this. It felt good to have one of the girl’s she befriended in this family to still be alive and not betray her.
