Chapter 300: Life goes on (2)

"What do you mean for the best? Samuel is the last of my immediate family and there are a bunch of souls who would love to steal his soul. At least here with me, I can see when something shows up and try to persuade them to leave Samuel alone. That idiot," Regina pinched the bridge of her nose.

If Samuel had any common sense he would stay with the person who could see what the hell was trying to kill him.

"There’s been something I have been meaning to tell you and I meant to come to you last night but something came up," Aurora looked at Vincent since he was the source of her not going to Regina. "When Vincent saw you and Samuel at the harvest moon festival, he told me that he could smell death on you or Samuel. That one of you would end up killing the other."

"What?" Regina looked at Vincent. Samuel and she were at odds but to kill him after everything they had lost? Something must have been wrong with what Vincent thought would happen. "I would not kill my brother. I have already lost the rest of my family."

"Feelings can change. There could have been a situation where you needed to defend yourself from your brother. Maybe you do something or nothing which leads to his death. There’s no telling how exactly either of you would die but you both do something that leads to the other’s death," Vincent explained.

Regina thought about this for a moment and thought of a moment when she had done something. "Could that have been when you and I ran away when the house was burning? The souls were targeting my family and I just left Samuel there. The souls might be after him because I didn’t try to plead for them to leave Samuel. Is that it?" She asked.

"It could be but he’s still alive. It wouldn’t have been hard for them to have killed Samuel before he even reached this home," Vincent replied.

"What if they cannot go beyond the land where their body resides and once Samuel was able to get off the land the Hamiltons owned, he was free from being killed?" Aurora wondered.

Regina didn’t think that was possible considering Esmeralda had come to visit her. Esmeralda was killed in their home so just like the souls, she should not be able to come to Timothy’s home. Esmeralda had even traveled with her into town. "My great-grandmother came to visit me so that theory is out the window," Regina said.

"But she’s no ordinary soul like the real Hamiltons. She’s a witch and there’s no telling what she might have done before her death to keep herself in this world to watch over Minnie. These are just assumptions but it is just odd that Samuel was left alive while your mother and father died," Aurora said as expected all three of them to die.

In their own way, the trio wanted something that did not belong to them.

"Whatever the case may be, we should be glad that Samuel is far away from you. The two of you cannot hurt each other if there is a distance between you two. Whatever happens with Samuel is his own doing. The three of us have changed since our youth and there is no going back to the relationship we had before the harvest moon festival," said Aurora.

Aurora could not even wish to turn back time to the happier days when she, Regina, and Samuel all got along well due to the fact she would have to return to the days when she had no memory of her past.

"You started to turn into a witch, I regained my memories, and Samuel desired to be the one controlling the house. If it were possible for everything to turn back to normal it would have happened already. Life goes on so instead of holding onto the past we need to look forward to the future. Maybe one day Samuel will come to his senses and return but I do not want you to live your life waiting on him," Aurora stated as Regina could miss out on making new happy memories while waiting for Samuel.

Vincent sat up from the bed and left the room as if he had nothing to add to the conversation. Hopefully, Aurora could convince Regina to let her brother go so they would not have to go and bring him back after just sending him away. Vincent wanted to continue with his plan to leave after a couple of days.

Regina sighed and sat down on the bed. "There is nothing more I could have done last night to let them live but I feel guilty. I truly miss the days when we would all gather in your bedroom and hear stories but you’re right. It’s time to move on. I have to admit that Samuel was starting to get on my last nerves last night. My hand was itching to try turning him into a frog and then giving him to Agatha," she joked.

"You are not that cruel. No wait," Aurora changed her mind. "You are."

"I am," Regina said at the same time as Aurora which made the two of them laugh.

Regina laid her head against Aurora’s shoulder and thought about their childhood. "I can’t say it enough that I am glad I have you. You better not betray me like Samuel or I will seriously turn you into a frog. I know we still care for each other even though we were separated but I want to see you often. I may not be allowed to visit where the werewolves are but maybe we can meet halfway."

"We’ll work something out. Since I didn’t get to enjoy this year’s harvest moon festival, I will need to visit next year to get all the things we wanted to buy. I think I’ll visit the year after that too. We don’t need to meet halfway. I’ll come straight here to you," Aurora said, holding up her pinky to make a deal. "Not even Vincent can stop me from coming."

"Alrighty," Regina replied as she hooked her pinky finger around Aurora’s.
