Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival
Chapter 82: Survival Through Self-Rescue
Unfortunately, people like Annie would never see the good in a woman like her. They would only see a cold, heartless person.
"I’m not that bored," Xie Ning said, then walked over to the group of people frantically fighting the zombies.
"Don’t be bothered by their disgusting appearance. Just imagine they’re monsters in a video game!"
Everyone complained silently in their hearts: ’Some things are impossible to just imagine away!’
Complaining aside, under Song You’ai’s leadership and guidance, the group managed to deal with the four or five scattered zombies.
The men around Xiao Huang Mao seemed rather energized after killing the zombies.
"I guess they’re not that hard to kill."
"These are just Initial-stage zombies." Xie Ning glanced at them. "A normal person can easily handle one or two. Let me give you some advice: if you’re surrounded by ten or more, your best bet is to run."
"Also, if you encounter zombies that are about as fast as you, be extra careful. If you can’t handle them, run for your life! You might just make it out of there."
Xiao Huang Mao and the others listened intently, committing her words to memory.
Annie, however, bit her lip and complained under her breath, "If you hadn’t insisted on taking us away from the Song Family Pavilion, we wouldn’t be in this danger."
Wang Zongxuan frowned. "The Song Family Pavilion isn’t a completely safe place either."
"How is it not safe? We have soldiers stationed there to protect us now, so how can it not be safe? Don’t tell me it’s more dangerous than here in Su City!"
Song You’ai quickly waved her hand at Annie. "Xiao Gu said they’re here on a mission, not a unit sent specifically to escort residents of the Song Family Pavilion to a safe zone. Besides, you have to save yourself to survive. How can you expect someone to protect you all day and night?"
"Aunt Song is right. We need to learn how to kill zombies ourselves." The speaker was the young man named Mo Li, the very same one whose leg Xie Ning had stabbed with a Metal Spike earlier.
Xie Ning had intentionally avoided bone when she stabbed him, only piercing his flesh to scare them. After the wound was treated and bandaged, he could now move with relative ease.
Seeing that Xiao Huang Mao and the others supported Xie Ning and Song You’ai’s approach, Annie could only bite her lip and fall silent.
The group got back in the vehicle. Whenever they encountered a few scattered zombies on the road, Xie Ning would have everyone get out to kill them for practice.
By the time they reached the competition venue, it was already around two in the afternoon.
Xie Ning heard her stomach rumbling and realized the group had long since missed lunch. They were probably all hungry.
She took three bread rolls from her backpack, handing one to her mom and tossing another to Xiao Huang Mao. "Here, eat this to tide you over."
"Xiao Yuan, you, Tai Xian, and the others stay here and watch the car."
Xie Ning got out of the car and instructed Ji Taixian, "Take out some crackers and share them. You all wait here. We’re going in to take a look."
Then she called over Wang Zongxuan and, with her mom in tow, ran toward the competition venue.
"Mom, you need to work out more. Keep running!" Xie Ning said, looking expressionlessly at her panting mother. "Once we bring Junjun home, you’ll run ten laps around the village with me every day."
Song You’ai: ???
’Did I give birth to a Devil coach for a daughter?’
"This venue is so big. Will we be able to find Junjun?"
"If we can’t find him here, we’ll just have to search the streets. Junjun was with the other survivors from the venue; they probably headed for places with a lot of food."
But Xie Ning had a hunch that Junjun and his group were likely still lingering at the venue.
The trio ran across a plaza. Just as they arrived in front of the main competition building, seven or eight zombies in the flowerbeds and under the trees turned their heads toward them in unison.
