Apocalypse Lord
Chapter 104 - 94: Blood Plague Frontline
The sky was a dim red, and the filthy poisonous blood stained the warriors’ golden armor.
Jay panted slightly, pulling the Ash Soil Long Spear from the charred remains, coldly overlooking the tide of scarlet beasts surging from the Western Plains.
The shouts of battle resounded endlessly around him, as warriors slaughtered the bloodthirsty monsters charging at them, not taking a single step back because the newly established civilian camp was right behind them!
The hills occupied by the Sun Legion had turned into a horribly brutal battlefield, with twisted and eerie remains everywhere.
Antelopes, hares, foxes, snakes... all animals had become carriers of the Blood Plague.
These creatures had a very strong sense of purpose, as if following instructions from something, trying to contaminate the water sources, food supplies, and crops in the civilian gathering places.
The most troublesome were the flapping birds.
The warriors could only watch them fly overhead, but fortunately, their numbers were not many, their combat ability was weak, and there was enough Sun Ore stored in the farmsteads guarded by ordinary soldiers.
Under the illumination of the Sunlight Flame, any Blood Plague creature would lose most of its combat power and eventually fall to the ground, helplessly waiting to be slaughtered.
Jay looked towards the distant Western Plains, his eyes growing increasingly solemn.
A sinister red fog lingered over the plains, writhing like a living being, with the curse gnawing at the earth. Not only were animals tainted, but even the mutated plants seemed to cast malevolent glances.
Over four meters high, the scarlet grass covered the flatlands like a deep trap, constantly nurturing restless monsters within.
Facing the aggressive Blood Plague creatures, during the days of slaughtering them, Jay’s feelings instead were somewhat...
Relieved.
In fact, the Blood Flesh Curse and mental corruption these monsters bore had no effect whatsoever on the Ark Warriors.
The Sunlight Flame was their nemesis, and with a Decurion equipped with Sun Armor, they could effortlessly tear them apart.
In the eyes of the Decurions, killing these mindless beasts was easier than chopping wood.
But as the soldiers advanced into the Eastern Border, the biggest disadvantage of the Ark Legion was exposed.
They were far too few in number.
Although hundreds of Ark Warriors were completely unafraid of the effects of the Blood Plague and could sweep away the rabble of Eastern Border nobles, the area where the Eastern and Western Borders met was just too long.
If the warriors moved deeper into the Eastern Border, the Blood Plague Curse would definitely destroy the civilian settlements behind them.
Jay inevitably felt a headache.
The plague almost never deliberately troubled the Lionheart nobles, but it would do everything it could to erode the territories that the Ark had taken over, targeting them with extreme precision.
The command from the Lord was to protect as many of those poor civilians as possible. As long as they settled in, the Ark could expand the territory, thereby stabilizing production of the Sun Ore necessary to combat the plague.
Yet the warriors were being held back in place.
Occupying one-fifth of the Eastern Border’s territory was the current limit that the Sun Legion could achieve...
While Jay was contemplating, the warriors had already cleaned up the wave of beast tides, and the blood fog began to slowly recede, but Jay did not relax his vigilance.
Based on the direct encounters with the plague these past days, he clearly realized that the Blood Plague Curse was still growing...
The strength of those monsters was increasing, and their forms were becoming increasingly grotesque and terrifying...
"Commander, new news has come from Seagull City."
At this time, Centurion Glen arrived at Jay’s side, exclaiming excitedly, "The Lord has successfully completed the tests with the Shattered Star, and Commander Ed is on his way!"
"That truly is some rare good news!"
Jay’s spirits lifted as he let out a long breath, "Prepare to return to camp to welcome Officer Ed. By the way, Glen..."
The face of this Legion Commander was somewhat pale, "Could you help me consolidate the Sun Praise Script later? I worry..."
"Of course, no problem at all, Commander, leave it to me!"
Glen’s smile was exceptionally bright.
Ever since Ed senior promoted him to Centurion, many of his good brothers in the legion had turned red-eyed, all diligently studying the obscure prayer texts.
Now everyone knew, whether soldier or civilian, that in the Ark’s territory, ’learning’ was the fastest way to climb the ranks.
Just as the warriors decided to turn back to base, several anguished cries suddenly sounded from deep within the grasslands of the Western Plains!
"Ahhhh they’re gnawing my leg! These monsters are gnawing my leg!!"
"Help me! Lord Baron! Please save me!!"
"Get off! Let go of me! You vile slave! No...this can’t be! I am a Lionheart noble! How could the calamity of the former king harm me!!"
Jay and Glen were both stunned on the spot.
What was happening now?
"They should be Eastern Border nobles who led their troops to the civilian camp, Commander Jay."
At this point, a Decurion stepped forward, reporting oddly, "The newest batch of fleeing civilians informed us that the Eastern Border nobles plan to personally kill us traitors."
Glen promptly burst into laughter.
"They aren’t planning to hide deep in the grasslands of the Western Plains and ambush us from there, are they? Honestly, these idiots always manage to come up with some incredible ideas."
On his face appeared an incredulous smile, "The plague didn’t target them, so those people think the Blood Plague Curse poses no threat to themselves?"
"The Lionheart nobles have never acted normally; they’re essentially a group of madmen."
Jay shook his head, "No need to concern ourselves with them, they just got what they deserved."
However, at the very next moment, a chill instantly gripped everyone’s heart!
"Look! It’s a knight! The Lionheart Knight has come to save us!!"
The baron deeply entangled within shouted joyously, "Knight, I am from the Eastern—"
Crunch... crunch...
The baron’s shout was abruptly cut off, followed by a series of muffled sounds of flesh being crushed.
The warriors instinctively tightened their grips on their Ash Soil Long Spears.
The blood mist in midair grew thicker, and the plants lowered themselves humbly. Thereafter, a figure nearly four meters tall came into view of the legion warriors.
It was a... fully inhuman Scarlet Knight.
Its face was a deep scarlet vortex, clad in blood-red heavy armor, wielding a heavy sword over two meters long, with its chest plate inlaid with a fearsome eyeball the size of a human head.
The Scarlet Knight had no lower body, instead being entirely fused with the gigantic Blood Plague Warhorse clad in heavy armor beneath it, with eight legs...
The fragmented viscous human structure adhered to the surface of the heavy sword, where the twisted, despairing face of the baron was still faintly visible.
"I will—"
The next moment, the Lionheart Knight lifted the heavy sword towards the Ark warriors, letting out an ecstatic keen, "Crush your skulls with my own hands!"
