Apocalypse Lord
Chapter 121 - 104: The Great Chessboard
The scarlet space inside the Royal Palace continued to extend infinitely.
Halls connected to even more chaotic halls, and corridors branched off like the veins of the Abyss; a single step could lead a person into darker, more twisted places.
A pitch-black storm churned through the opulent palace.
Every moment, bloodthirsty knights clad in armor and twisted in form crawled out from the surface of paintings, sculptures, and decorations.
The number of knight soul spirits accumulated over centuries in the Lion Heart Palace had reached a shocking level.
They had been reborn under the blessing of the Celestial Calamity!
Royal Court knights with blood-red umbilical cords connecting to their napes swung skeleton giant swords, howling as they charged toward the edge of the storm.
Deep within the gale, beneath its scarlet vertical pupils, clouds of mist collided with the storm’s edge, spawning a more destructive burst of dread lightning!
The Doragon people’s racial ability had always been overwhelmingly dominant; the storm and lightning sliced through knights’ bodies like blades, whether armor or flesh, and anything touched by black wings was ground into scattered fragments.
At this moment, Eleanor seemed somewhat dispirited.
An omnipresent weight had been crushing the consciousness of the Doragon people from the start.
She struggled to flap her wings mightily, pushing the storm slowly forward at her command, while beside the Doragon, a gentle breeze lifted several children’s bodies.
"Tsk... It’s so restricting,"
Eleanor glanced at the children’s pale faces and muttered impatiently, "If I didn’t find Roland pleasing, I wouldn’t exert more effort to save you little brats..."
She loaded the few remaining regular bullets into the chamber and repelled a few bloodthirsty knights at the storm’s edge.
Eleanor had been constantly seeking opportunities to escape the palace.
Attacking Prince Ryan’s body was pointless; the true root of the calamity was the three-layered umbilical cord ring atop that Abyssal Believer.
As Chaos Pirates, she indeed had the means to abandon the children and escape on her own.
But what did that mean?
It meant that the dignified King of Pirates couldn’t save even a few kids in front of a Celestial Calamity Believer; it meant she’d slink away with her tail between her legs like a pathetic worm!
No, no, that’s unacceptable! If this got out, it’d be such a damn embarrassment!
Ever since obtaining the Deep Sea Treasures ’Angel’s Right Eye,’ Eleanor had been very conscious of her outward image.
Who knew what kind of peering prowess those Doragon who collected other ’organs’ in that ’sea gathering event’ possessed...
Especially that ’good sister’ who obtained the other eye and liked running a library across the sea; she always loved peeking into others’ privacy with her eye. If she witnessed this scene...
There’d be no way to survive on the high seas in the future!
Eleanor gritted her teeth and fired the last Platinum Bullet, the exploding ripples shattered the howling knights, but this did not improve her predicament.
The knights would never die; even if the storm ground their blood and bones to dust, their liberated soul spirits would still gather and form bodies under the twisted umbilical cords.
The wind seemed to die down a little.
Eleanor’s figure suddenly wavered, as a skeletal hand, stripped of flesh, hooked onto the corner of her black wing.
She turned her head, seeing the knight’s remaining half-face curve into a cruel smile, those blood-red pupils burning with an insatiable longing for a powerful soul spirit.
The blade shattered the twisted head in the next moment.
Eleanor never lacked close combat means! The King of Pirates sneered as she swung her curved saber, and for the first time, the deep-colored double-breasted coat was splashed with the stench of rotten blood.
Not far away, Prince Ryan’s face grew ever more joyful.
"Quickly leave... Eleanor... Do not continue fighting..."
Just then, a childlike anxious voice suddenly echoed in Eleanor’s ear, "If this keeps up, you’ll be trapped forever in the Abyss’ calamity!
The voice was nimble and wise, flowing like a gentle breeze flipping delicate pages.
"Eh? Am I hearing an illusion?"
Eleanor raised an eyebrow; she casually cut through a bloodthirsty knight’s throat, her eyes incredulous as she began to scan around.
"It’s no illusion! I know you’re pretending to be dumb, annoying Eleanor!"
That voice grew clearer, her tone urgent, "Listen, you can’t save those children, in front of you is not just any ordinary Calamity Believer; it’s the Bishop hailing the disaster, and no one can survive in its domain!"
"Have you been spying on me? Dorothy?"
Eleanor asked casually, weaving among several tall knights, as twisted heads flew high, and headless bodies fell backward, but a deep and severe wound had appeared on the King of Pirates’ black wing.
Dragon blood splattered, making all bloodthirsty knights’ expressions even more ravenous and crazed!
Eleanor’s face remained unchanged, as if that pain was trivial to her.
"No... no... after that gray-haired noble caught you, I couldn’t see anything anymore..."
The voice in her ear sounded somewhat guilty, but her tone quickly turned confident, "I’m guessing that noble is definitely suspicious! So I’ve been working hard to locate your exact position!"
"Isn’t that still spying?"
Eleanor hacked away at the remains beside her, smirking, "That’s why Lucia refuses to bathe with me every time; I suggest you quit this bad habit soon."
