Chapter 26: Mutated Zombies

Below the floor Clayne currently stood on, several mutated zombies slowly roamed throughout the lower hallways after hearing the sounds from earlier battles. Unlike the ordinary undead, these creatures no longer dragged themselves mindlessly without purpose. Their movements had already changed.

Some crawled on walls.

Others moved with strange twitching motions.

One even bent its body backward unnaturally while its neck continuously rotated left and right as though trying to hear every vibration inside the building.

Meanwhile, inside one of the classrooms below, several students somehow still remained alive.

Barely.

The classroom smelled horrifying.

Sweat.

Fear.

Rotting blood.

And most noticeably...

Human waste.

The surviving students hid behind stacked desks and cabinets pushed tightly against the classroom door. Their faces looked pale while several trembled uncontrollably. Some held their own mouths tightly to prevent themselves from making noise while others looked completely exhausted from remaining awake for so long.

Nobody dared speak loudly anymore.

Because they already understood.

Sound meant death.

Outside the barricaded classroom, one of the mutated zombies slowly sniffed the air continuously.

Sniff.

Sniff.

Sniff.

Its nose twitched violently while its elongated neck bent sideways unnaturally.

Inside the classroom, one male student nearly cried from terror while another hurriedly covered his mouth tighter.

The mutated zombie outside slowly approached the barricade.

Its claws scratched lightly against the wood.

Sniff.

Sniff.

But then suddenly—

The creature stopped.

Because near the barricaded door sat several piles of human feces placed intentionally by the surviving students earlier.

The smell completely overwhelmed the surrounding human scent.

The mutated zombie slowly tilted its head sideways before eventually backing away slightly.

Inside the classroom, several students almost cried from relief.

"It worked..."

One girl whispered while trembling violently.

Another student nearly collapsed emotionally afterward.

But before they could fully relax—

Every mutated zombie in the lower floor suddenly looked upward simultaneously.

Then—

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

A strange sound echoed above.

One of the surviving students slowly widened his eyes.

"...What was that?"

Then suddenly—

A mutated zombie began climbing upward along the stairwell wall like some horrifying spider.

Its limbs bent unnaturally while its claws dug directly into concrete surfaces. The creature moved rapidly upward through the stairway ceiling while twitching continuously.

Inside the classroom, the surviving students nearly stopped breathing.

"What the fuck..."

...

Meanwhile...

Upstairs...

Clayne suddenly froze slightly after sensing movement near the stairway leading downward.

Then immediately afterward—

He saw it.

The same strange mutated zombie from earlier.

The one that previously tried squeezing itself through the small room window like a monstrous insect.

Now it clung directly against the wall beside the stairway like some horrifying spider.

Its elongated limbs bent unnaturally while sharp claws pierced directly into concrete. Half of its face looked partially shattered from earlier attacks, yet it still crawled upward rapidly.

The moment Clayne saw it—

He reacted instantly.

Without hesitation, he flicked a spiritually reinforced tile fragment directly using his thumb.

Snap!

The fragment instantly shot forward violently.

Crack!

Half the mutated zombie’s skull exploded apart immediately.

The creature’s body froze briefly afterward before losing balance entirely.

Bang!

Its corpse crashed heavily down the stairway below while rolling violently through several steps.

Clayne nodded slightly afterward.

His body had strengthened significantly already.

At the Third Stage of the Qi Infusion Realm, his physical strength alone had already surpassed ordinary humans multiple times over. Combined with the spiritually reinforced tile fragments strengthened through the miniature world, his attacks naturally became horrifyingly lethal.

But before Clayne could relax—

More mutated zombies suddenly appeared below.

One climbed directly along the stairway walls.

Another crawled upside down against the ceiling.

One even dragged itself upward using only its arms while its lower body twisted unnaturally behind it.

The sight alone looked horrifying.

Yet Clayne remained calm now.

His breathing stabilized immediately.

Then—

Snap!

Another tile fragment flew instantly.

Crack!

A mutated zombie’s eye socket exploded apart while the fragment pierced entirely through its skull.

Its body rolled backward violently down the stairs afterward.

Then—

Snap!

Another projectile instantly pierced directly through the mouth of a ceiling crawling zombie before exploding through the back of its head.

Bang!

The corpse crashed downward heavily.

Then another appeared.

Then another.

Then another.

Mutated zombies continuously climbed upward through the stairway like horrifying insects swarming toward prey.

Yet every single time—

Snap!

Crack!

Bang!

Another skull shattered.

Another corpse fell.

Another mutated creature rolled violently back downstairs.

Blood splattered repeatedly across walls and stair railings.

Several corpses even crashed directly into other climbing undead below, causing entire groups to tumble downward violently.

Still...

More appeared.

One suddenly lunged upward incredibly fast using all four limbs simultaneously.

But before it could even reach halfway—

Snap!

A tile fragment pierced directly through its forehead.

Its body immediately flipped backward before crashing downward through multiple undead beneath it.

Another creature attempted climbing sideways through the stairwell walls.

Snap!

Its jaw exploded apart instantly.

Another tried leaping upward.

Snap!

Its neck shattered violently midair.

The more they climbed...

The more corpses piled downward below.

Eventually, the stairway became covered in fallen mutated undead bodies stacked over one another grotesquely.

Yet Clayne did not stop.

Because normal zombies slowly started appearing afterward too.

Growling.

Dragging themselves upward.

Mindlessly climbing toward sounds and blood.

Clayne immediately changed tactics afterward.

He no longer merely killed randomly.

Instead...

He intentionally let the corpses accumulate near the stairway entrance.

Because he already realized something important.

This stairway remained the primary path upward.

If enough bodies piled together tightly enough...

They could partially block the path.

So Clayne continuously attacked without stopping.

Snap!

Another zombie collapsed.

Snap!

Another skull shattered.

Snap! Snap! Snap!

The stairway gradually became filled with corpse after corpse after corpse.

Zombie bodies slammed endlessly against stairs and railings while blood continuously flowed downward.

Some corpses twisted unnaturally atop others.

Several remained twitching briefly before finally going still.

The smell became disgusting beyond belief.

Yet Clayne continued calmly. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Killing.

Throwing.

Repositioning.

Killing again.

The Silent Blade Throw technique continuously improved during actual combat.

Every throw became increasingly precise.

Faster.

Deadlier.

More efficient.

Zombie bodies continuously piled throughout the stairway until portions almost resembled a wall of corpses.

Eventually—

The undead below gradually stopped appearing.

For the moment...

Silence returned again.

...

Meanwhile...

Outside the school building...

The mutated zombie the mysterious girl encountered earlier continuously climbed upward along the outer walls of the school.

Its movements looked horrifyingly unnatural.

Its limbs elongated repeatedly during movement while its spine continuously bent and straightened like some massive insect. Claws pierced deeply into concrete while portions of its skin occasionally peeled away before regenerating grotesquely moments later.

Worst of all—

Its nose constantly twitched.

Sniff.

Sniff.

Sniff.

The creature continuously searched for something.

Meanwhile, not far away, the girl in the school uniform remained hidden carefully behind damaged structures while numerous ordinary zombies still wandered nearby.

She no longer moved recklessly now.

Because her instincts continuously warned her.

Something dangerous existed inside the school.

Something abnormal.

Something far beyond ordinary zombies.

The girl slowly looked toward the same school building repeatedly afterward.

Her eyes narrowed seriously.

More and more zombies continuously moved toward that area strangely.

Even several mutated undead abandoned nearby prey entirely before heading there.

That alone felt abnormal already.

But what disturbed her most...

Was her own Bio Parasite.

Ever since approaching the school, the parasite inside her body continuously reacted more violently. It felt restless. Excited.

Hungry.

Almost as though something inside the school attracted it deeply.

The girl slowly clenched her fists afterward.

Her thoughts became increasingly chaotic.

Just what exactly existed inside that school?

Why were multiple humans suddenly awakening their Bio Parasites there?

And worse...

Why did her own newly awakened parasite desperately want her to enter and search for whatever caused it?
