Chapter 35: the reversal

Standing in front of William was the last variant of zombie mentioned in the intelligence merchant’s note.

The Brute, large in size, overwhelming in power, but slow in movement.

The vibrations that Leo had been feeling while sitting inside the truck earlier were caused by the approaching Brute heading toward this location.

The alien must have sensed that the zombies currently present didn’t have enough strength to take down William.

So it called upon reinforcements that could.

The Brute, standing at 13 feet tall, was an amalgamation of flesh. The flesh on its body writhed constantly, as if something were moving beneath it at all times.

It was as if hundreds of bodies had fused into one to create such a creature.

The Brute, or perhaps the alien controlling it, realizing that even after such a heavy hit William was able to stand up without any major damage, roared at him.

William, seeing this action as a provocation, roared back at the Brute.

He then jumped and threw a punch at the Brute. The Brute may have been described as slow, but that was only when it was walking. Its reflexes were nowhere near slow.

The Brute swung the concrete hammer and accurately hit William while he was mid-air.

The impact was clean, and William was again sent flying, crashing into another building this time.

No one knew if the hit had done enough damage or if William was finally showing signs of exhaustion. This time, he didn’t get back on his feet as quickly as before.

After a while, William came out of the building with one of his arms hanging completely limp.

William roared at the Brute again, but he didn’t immediately try to attack it this time.

He simply watched the Brute for a while before diving back into the horde that had surrounded both him and the Brute.

He began tearing apart the zombies and stuffing chunks of their flesh into his mouth.

The alien was confused about what William was trying to achieve by doing this, but soon it got its answer.

After eating for a while, William’s limp arm began to heal at a noticeable speed.

The alien realized William’s goal and the threat he could pose if he recovered from his injuries. It even feared that William would become even stronger and more durable after this.

The alien’s fear was not misplaced because it had watched William grow stronger and stronger since the start of this battle.

It quickly ordered the Brute not to give William time to recover and to pulverize him completely.

The Brute quickly raised its hammer and attacked William.

Having learned from experience, William decided not to confront the hammer head-on and quickly dodged.

William escaped the attack, but the zombies in his vicinity were smashed into meat paste.

The Brute attacked William again and again, but William’s agility and reflexes were no joke either.

He was like a phantom, moving from one place to another in the blink of an eye.

Soon, William’s arm had completely healed.

He quickly bypassed the Brute and launched a surprise attack on the alien hiding behind it, but before he could reach it, the Brute swung its heavy arm and sent William flying.

William coughed up dark gray blood while he was mid-air.

As soon as William landed on the ground, he instinctively rolled away from his position as a heavy concrete hammer struck the pavement where he had initially landed.

And this cycle continued for some time.

After a while, a problem began to occur on the Brute’s end, perhaps due to the constant impact the hammer had been subjected to again and again.

The piece of concrete attached to the pole began showing signs of breaking apart.

So when a moment came where William was cornered and had no way of dodging the Brute’s strike, he punched the hammer.

The concrete slab immediately shattered into smaller pieces that flew in every direction.

The Brute then swung the pole, but William, instead of dodging, caught it in his hands and locked it beneath his armpits.

Using his immense strength, he began crushing the pole while pulling it toward himself.

The Brute immediately felt its grip on the pole loosening slightly.

The Brute tightened its grip and tried to lift William off the ground, but William was like a mountain, completely immovable.

The pole soon broke apart in the middle, and William, seizing one end of the broken pole, stepped forward and tried to pierce the Brute’s head with it.

The Brute dodged, but due to its slow movements, it couldn’t avoid the attack completely and was pierced through the shoulder.

The Brute roared and threw away the broken pole it was holding before rapidly punching at William.

William, unwilling to be outdone, threw a punch of his own.

The moment the two fists met, a shockwave rippled through the air.

A brutal fistfight soon erupted between William and the Brute.

At first, William seemed to be at a disadvantage, but as the fight continued, he gradually gained the upper hand.

The alien hiding behind the Brute could sense this, and for the first time, it began to feel afraid.

It realized that if this continued, it might not survive.

So it decided not to linger any longer and came up with what it believed was the perfect plan.

The alien decided to run while the Brute kept William busy.

The giant eyeball ejected itself from the Stalker’s torso and floated high into the air.

It looked intently at William’s face for a moment before turning around in the opposite direction.

It had just begun moving when a gunshot echoed through the air.

Bang!

The eyeball immediately burst apart like a balloon.
