Chapter 902 - 884: Dragon Breath, Ineffective
The attackers have a clear division of labor.
Some of them are specifically using "Thunder Spears" to target the flying dragons and Losric Dragon Riders in the sky.
Another group is preparing to take advantage of the opportunity to seize the gateway on the bridge, providing cover for their forces.
If they were ordinary enemies, the Losric Dragon Riders could easily have the flying dragons skim by at low altitude, spewing fire and creating a long strip of scorched earth.
If the enemies were tougher, they would keep flying back and forth, burning repeatedly.
The advantage of air superiority, isn’t it just like this?
Fight as you want, attack however you like.
But now the situation is obviously not right, the enemies initially targeted the flying dragons of Losric!
"Whoosh~"
The flames spewed by the dragon swept over the narrow surface of the bridge.
Given the terrain, there should be absolutely no place to hide.
Yet inexplicably, every time the Dragon Riders skim past at low altitude, the attackers don’t seem to suffer heavy casualties.
The projection of "Thunder Spears" is still numerous and consistently effective.
The Dragon Riders on the backs of the dragons are puzzled, simultaneously starting to feel the danger.
The enemy isn’t harmed by the dragon breath, each descent is an opportunity for the enemy to harm them...
This isn’t right! It’s way too wrong!
And watching, those attackers have already occupied a gateway, killing all the guards on top, even beginning to operate the crossbow cannons!
Amidst the sound of "whoosh whoosh whoosh," the Losric Dragon Riders are already in a perilous situation.
The dragon beneath them has many holes in its wide wing membranes that are directly pierced through.
Luckily, neither the "Thunder Spear" nor the crossbow arrows have yet damaged the main muscles and bones of the wings, barely maintaining flight ability.
Even so, this dragon’s flying speed and maneuverability have been severely impaired.
The dragon’s mouth continues to emit cries of pain.
These sounds, for the attackers below, are exhilarating like the sounds of nature.
But as time passes, two other dragon roars come from the direction of Losric.
The morale of the attackers momentarily stalls.
"Losric reinforcements are here! Get ready!"
The attackers seem to have anticipated this scene.
Two dragons, similar to the ones that initially appeared, but vaguely larger, are flying toward the city bridge.
The air trembling with the beat of their wings, even the people on the bridge can feel a sense of suffocation.
This is the power of the Dragon Race. Even when their bloodline is so dilute, their descendants still possess immense innate strength.
Lann’s eyes catch sight of the knights on the dragons as they lower their altitude.
They’re dressed similarly to the first Losric Dragon Riders, except the largest dragon’s rider doesn’t use a great lance and tower shield.
Rather, he carries a considerably large greatsword.
The sword is a palm’s width, its total length upwards of two meters, akin in stature to the "Turmoil" made without Extinct Dragon materials.
Unlike "Turmoil," which always emphasized ’overpowering strength,’ leading to a combat philosophy that doesn’t seek sharpness, this greatsword’s blade is quite thin.
It’s a greatsword that combines strength and technique.
The situation is now chaotic, almost no one can clearly understand the full extent of events.
Even the Dragon Riders observing the situation from the sky can only see a crowd of dark figures running chaotically.
Lann is contemplating whether to ride the Qilin and leap to the top of the gateway tower to gain a better understanding of the situation.
Although it might make him too conspicuous and both the attackers and Losric could see him as an enemy, it’s still better than being caught in the chaotic crowd, unable to see clearly, with only screams and exclamations in his ears and no clear idea of where the conflicts are erupting.
With a plan in mind, Lann immediately sets out to act.
He caresses the magic ring on his finger, then the Qilin he instructed to stay inconspicuous no longer holds back.
The wide rune silk cloth with a sense of weight floats in the air, and the energetic swift figure of the Qilin is already beside Lann.
The Demon Hunter mounts, taking Rong Buqiu with him, directly charging up to the gateway tower from the bridge surface.
Even on the gateway tower now, there’s no order.
The attackers are crazily attacking and slaughtering.
Anyone in their way, they don’t care whether it’s a pilgrim or a Losric soldier.
They’re racing against time, so whoever blocks their path is killed.
Many of the frail pilgrims, originally at the edges, are directly squeezed out of the bridge’s edge railing by the surging crowd.
Falling into the abyss and the woods below.
Their withered, dry throats don’t even have the ability to scream.
The dragon’s flames have repeatedly swept over several sections of the bridge separated by the gateway towers, yet the attackers seem strangely immune to fire.
Upon reaching the strategic vantage point, Lann immediately begins to survey the entire situation and attempt to analyze the problem.
"Who is that? An enemy?"
High above, flying dragons soared, and the Losric Knight holding a greatsword shouted at the seriously injured Dragon Cavalry on the flying dragon.
The first Dragon Cavalry looked down: "I’m not sure, Knight Captain! But he was fighting with the attackers just now, causing a riot. I wasn’t shot down by the first [Lightning Spear] because of that chaos."
Then he’s not an enemy.
The Losric Knight called ’Knight Captain’ immediately decided to descend temporarily.
With a "boom," the huge flying dragon landed on the gatehouse amidst the chaos of [Lightning Spears] and crossbow arrows.
The long neck tilted its head, opened its mouth towards the bridge deck below, and spewed flames, temporarily suppressing the enemy’s ranged attacks.
The Losric Knight Captain on the dragon’s back took the opportunity to jump down along the dragon’s neck.
He carried the greatsword and walked to Lann.
"Not bad horse." The voice under the helmet was muffled but still discernible as a strong man. "It can actually stay calm in front of a flying dragon."
Qilin has seen creatures more qualified than this flying dragon to be called ’Ancient Dragon.’
Lann criticized inwardly but remained calm on the surface.
"The situation is tense now, sir." To dispel any possible hostility, Lann used an honorific. "Let’s skip the pleasantries."
"Just what I wanted. Please report your identity to me; at this critical moment, you and your outstanding mount are both suspicious."
In a glance, Lann confirmed that the Losric Knight in front of him was already gripping the greatsword tightly.
If he showed any dubious actions, it would likely lead to an immediate fight.
"I’m just a passerby trapped on the bridge, sir."
Lann said as he tilted his head on horseback, narrowly dodging a crossbow arrow that almost brushed his scattered silver hair.
"I got caught in a premeditated riot attack. I don’t want to be the unlucky one burned by Losric’s flying dragon, nor do I want to be a meat shield for those attackers mixed into the crowd."
"And to escape quickly, there’s really only one choice, isn’t it?"
Solve that group of attackers quickly, and safety will naturally be ensured.
"Very wise. At times like these, it’s hard to find clear-headed people. Yet here you are."
The Knight Captain sneered but didn’t wield the greatsword in front of him.
He patted the flying dragon behind him, pressing enemies with its flames on the gatehouse.
The flying dragon flapped its wings and took off immediately.
Lann calmly watched the Knight Captain, who didn’t ascend with the dragon again.
"Dragon Breath can’t kill them, and when we fly overhead, we can’t see anything clearly. The soldiers below aren’t much good either."
The Knight Captain flicked his deep red cape backward and said, "If it’s not clear what’s going on, then our dragon is purely a target instead of combat power. This riot will definitely escalate larger and last longer."
"You seem strong, at least the two of us can temporarily form a squad, look out for each other from behind, and go close to those people to see why they’re not afraid of Dragon Breath."
Lann had no objection; ending this sudden twist quickly would be best.
Only he had a question.
"Why not bring your subordinates down with you?"
"Being a Dragon Cavalry isn’t easy, ’passerby.’" The Knight Captain replied while poking at the identity Lann stated earlier.
"When the battlefield is in the sky, the environment is more complicated than on the ground. Without Dragon Cavalry, the flying dragon is just a target easily deceived."
"According to the Dragon Cavalry manual. Now that I’ve dismounted, my dragon will remain high in the sky, not participating in ground suppression combat until I’m ready again."
"Any more questions?"
The Knight Captain lifted his face guard and looked at Lann.
His appearance matched Lann’s impression, a clean-shaven, strong-looking middle-aged man.
It wasn’t on a crowded battlefield but a small-scaled conflict.
The protection the face guard provided evidently couldn’t compare with the precious field of vision.
The Demon Hunter shook his head silently and communicated quietly with Magic Seal, Qilin, and Rong Buqiu, instructing them to stay calm and not reveal their intelligence.
Rong Buqiu behind Lann nodded and silently crawled under Qilin’s broad rune cloth.
The Knight Captain of Losric held the large sword horizontally in one hand.
While his left hand stroked over the sword’s surface, the wide blade instantly showed a luminous appearance.
As if several light sources were installed on the sword.
[Miracle·Blessing Weapon].
If a blessed gemstone can transform a weapon under the hands of a skilled blacksmith.
Then, this magic temporarily gives an ordinary weapon a ’blessed’ trait.
It can slightly restore the wielder’s life force and increase physical strength.
Lann and the Knight Captain began their actions; the attackers were quite skillful, but that was only in comparison to ordinary Losric soldiers.
They had difficulty dealing with even one Losric Knight head-on, let alone a Knight Captain and Lann.
As the two pushed down the gatehouse, attempting to find out why these attackers weren’t losing numbers despite repeated Dragon Breath sweeps.
The answer appeared before them quicker than expected.
