Beast Tamer: After My Pet Space Mutated, I Became OP
Chapter 5: Summoning
Mingxi quickly realized that it was the original owner's lingering regret at play.
This Xiao Guniang was too strong-willed, and her resentment towards her birth mother was too great; even though she was already dead, the lingering regret in this body still wouldn't allow her to compromise with that woman.
This made things very difficult.
For her, an underage girl, raising enough star coins to buy a Pet within a short period was an almost impossible task.
The option of borrowing from relatives and friends was firmly blocked due to her grandmother's illness last year; the grandfather and granddaughter had already borrowed everything they could, which is how they accumulated over 200,000 in foreign debt.
The only option left was to 'sell' herself.
Don't misunderstand, this 'selling' is not that 'selling'.
She was now, by all accounts, a Beast Tamers, and many organizations and families offered Beast Tamers cultivation agreements.
This meant that Beast Tamers would sign relevant agreements with them, and in return, the other party would provide money, Pets, and resources to cultivate the Beast Tamers, who would then serve them for a certain number of years.
It was somewhat like securing a job for the next decade or even several decades in advance.
But it was too passive, and there was almost no freedom.
Mingxi did not like it.
Even if her own destiny couldn't be entirely controlled by her, at least she wouldn't hand it over to any outsider.
Rather than testing human hearts, # Nоvеlight # she was more willing to test fate; perhaps fate, seeing her deep emotions, would be willing to favor her?
"...Congratulations, little classmate, your Key's quality is the highest Advanced Level 5-star, allowing you to perfectly contract an Intermediate Pet!"
The Staff Member's surprised voice rang in her ears.
Mingxi's reaction to the news was very calm; since she had already decided to cultivate the 'iron head' skill, the quality of the Key was no longer that important.
The quality of the Soul Key ranged from low to high: 1-star, 2-star, 3-star, 4-star, and 5-star.
A 1-star Soul Key could only contract unhatched Pet eggs.
A 2-star could contract a Primary Pet, but with a 50% chance of failure.
A 3-star could perfectly contract a Primary Pet, with a 100% success rate.
A 4-star could contract an Intermediate Pet, also with a 50% chance of failure.
A 5-star could perfectly contract an Intermediate Pet, with a 100% success rate.
This shows the importance of Key quality; not to mention the effort, time, and money required to cultivate a Primary Pet to an Intermediate Pet, even the loss from a failed contract was something ordinary families couldn't afford.
If the contract failed, the Transcendent creature would be teleported away by the Spiritual Contract Platform, which was the opposite of the Phantom Color Key's random summoning.
This meant that the Beast Tamers would have to purchase another suitable Transcendent creature.
Mingxi sighed heavily.
In this day and age, if a family had a Beast Tamers who awakened a 5-star Key, wouldn't they be as excited as winning the lottery jackpot, wanting to set off a hundred and twenty fireworks on the spot?
There were even many who held grand banquets for it.
But when this kind of luck fell upon her, why did it feel so unsatisfying?
Under the envious and admiring gazes of the two Staff Members, Mingxi left the Key detection room, not bothering to go to the adjacent Pet cultivation center to test her resolve.
She found another Page Butterfly, clarified the usage process of the Spirit Pact Chamber, and then directly took the elevator up to the 15th floor of the Yushou Center.
The long chairs outside the Spirit Pact Chamber were filled with Beast Tamers of all ages, almost every person accompanied by one or more Transcendent creatures, with a few also holding Pet eggs.
Those without Pets were clearly accompanying relatives and friends.
Being alone like her, with neither a Pet nor a Pet egg, was like a pink flamingo suddenly entering a flock of penguins.
That wasn't just eye-catching; it was like exploding a fish pond! 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Mingxi endured the curious gazes of the crowd and received her third number slip for the day.
No. 52.
She had heard the broadcast call No. 17 earlier.
It seemed there was still a wait.
She casually found an empty seat, then pulled out the unfinished "History of Pet Civilization (Volume One)" from her backpack and continued reading.
"She also booked a Spirit Pact Chamber?"
"Definitely, I just saw her get a number slip, and this entire floor only handles one type of business."
"She looks very young, wearing what seems to be the uniform of nearby Middle School No. 3, and even carrying a cartoon backpack. Could this child have just finished primary school?"
"She's reading 'History of Pet Civilization'; I remember that's a Grade Two textbook."
"Hey, hey, hey, the point now isn't her age, but that she clearly booked a Spirit Pact Chamber but didn't bring a Pet with her."
"...Could it be..."
"Could it be..."
The group of people looked at each other as if exchanging secret signals, their expressions growing stranger.
Finally, someone couldn't resist sitting next to Mingxi, clearing her throat, and then lightly tugging at her sleeve, "Excuse me, classmate, sorry to bother you."
Mingxi: You've already bothered me, after all, I'm not deaf.
So many people around, chattering, and the topic of discussion was herself.
Could she not be distracted?
She wasn't Socrates, who could remain unperturbed even if a wild donkey kicked him.
"You want to ask me why I didn't bring a Pet, right?" Mingxi put away her book and looked at the girl sitting next to her.
The girl had a pair of cute little canine teeth, a bright and generous smile, and didn't look much older than Mingxi. She was holding a brown Pet egg larger than her head, likely also a newly awakened Beast Tamers.
"Yes, actually, everyone is quite curious," the girl replied candidly and gracefully, without any embarrassment.
Mingxi smiled and said frankly, "I awakened a Colorful Key, and because my family is relatively poor, I plan to do a random summoning."
The crowd, who had been listening in, thought: ...They really guessed it.
In this day and age, someone still chooses to 'open a blind box'?
How poor must this child's family be to push her to this point?
How pitiful.
Mingxi, bathed in numerous pitying gazes: ...
Really, it's not necessary.
"No. 52."
Fortunately, it was finally her turn.
Mingxi quickly followed the Staff Member to the Spirit Pact Chamber.
The Spirit Pact Chamber, when not in use, was almost completely sealed, looking like a giant metal iron box.
Under the Staff Member's guidance, Mingxi took out her Soul Key and inserted it into the keyhole on the outer wall of the Spirit Pact Chamber.
"Click, click."
After the key turned three times, the door of the Spirit Pact Chamber automatically opened, and Mingxi unhesitatingly pulled out her Soul Key and stepped inside.
The interior of the Spirit Pact Chamber was as cold and unremarkable as its exterior, with almost nothing special about it.
Except for the huge circular platform in the center.
That was the Spiritual Contract Platform.
When using an ordinary Soul Key for a contract, Beast Tamers and the Transcendent creature only need to step onto the Spiritual Contract Platform simultaneously, then use the Key to draw in the Pet Space. The Spiritual Contract Platform will then build a bridge between the Beast Tamers and the Transcendent creature, forming a contract relationship.
If the contract is successful, the Soul Key integrates into the Transcendent creature's body.
If the contract fails, the Transcendent creature is teleported away, and the Soul Key remains unaffected.
