Chapter 139: Chapter 138: Arguing with Li Chenlin

Lu Tingyan thoughtfully left the room to the two of them.

Li Chenlin hadn’t seen Bai Su in a long time. Being alone in a room with her, he couldn’t help but feel a little nervous.

She had changed a lot, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on how.

This change was especially obvious when looking at her up close.

The changes a Level increase brought to a female were immense, not just physically, but also in their spiritual power.

Li Chenlin had longed for her for a long time. He had always been a proud man, and this was the first time he had secretly liked someone, guarding them from the shadows for so long.

He had never felt so humbled.

Bai Su pursed her lips and was the first to break the awkward silence. "Lu Tingyan told me you’ve been helping with all of this. Thank you."

It was the first time Li Chenlin had ever done such a good deed, and the first time he had been thanked for it.

Before, he was always the one holding a gun to someone’s head, doing bloody, violent work that couldn’t see the light of day.

And no one ever thanked him for it.

Li Chenlin cleared his throat, a bit uncomfortable. "I’m just in a mutually beneficial arrangement with Lu Tingyan. I help him, and he facilitates my business in the Snow Country."

Bai Su breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, I see. That’s good, then."

She didn’t have a particularly favorable impression of Li Chenlin, and their last parting had been unpleasant.

So, she didn’t want to be indebted to him.

Nor did she want to have too much to do with him.

Sensing her thoughts, Li Chenlin’s expression immediately darkened. "What do you mean by that? Are you afraid I’ll use this to take credit and cling to you?"

Bai Su froze for a moment. "No, I just don’t want to owe—"

But Li Chenlin’s face had already turned grim. He strode over and grabbed her wrist. "You don’t want to owe me a favor? You’re that afraid of being involved with me?"

A sharp pain shot through Bai Su’s wrist, and her brow furrowed slightly. "Let go!"

Far from letting go, Li Chenlin tightened his grip when he saw her furrowed brow. "What? They can touch you, but I can’t? When they help you, you’re moved to tears with gratitude, but when I help you, you’re disgusted?"

He had come full of joy and sincerity, hoping to make up with her, only to have her attitude pour a basin of cold water on him.

’This woman, Bai Su, is heartless. She has absolutely no intention of making up with me.’

’I’ve helped her so much. What’s with that relieved attitude, like she’s terrified of having anything to do with me?’

Bai Su restrained herself and looked at him. "That’s not what I mean. Let me go first."

Remembering he was here today to communicate properly with her, Li Chenlin took a step back and released her hand.

The two fell silent for a moment once more.

Li Chenlin took a deep breath and looked at her. "I know it was my fault for abducting you without a word before, but you got your revenge for that later."

"So, now I want a chance to start over. That’s fair, isn’t it?"

Bai Su was taken aback. "A chance to start over?"

Li Chenlin sat down on the edge of the bed, leaning closer to her. "You need someone by your side to protect you, don’t you? And it just so happens I don’t have a female yet."

"Let me be your First Beast Husband, and we’ll start over. I can even accept that you have other males around you..."

"The Medical Alliance has you in their sights. Your life won’t be peaceful from now on."

"I have my people within the Southern Country. Plus, the environment there is hot and humid, and the poisonous miasma of the Snake Beastmen is not something ordinary people can overcome."

"If you come with me to the Southern Country, you’ll be much safer than staying in the Snow Country."

"And you won’t have to worry about the Medical Alliance targeting your birthing sac anymore..."

The more Bai Su listened, the more wrong this sounded. She raised a hand to cut him off. "When did I ever say I was going to the Southern Country with you? When did I agree to let you be my First Beast Husband?"

Li Chenlin narrowed his eyes. "You still don’t intend to make up with me?"

Bai Su could hardly keep up with his train of thought. "What does this have to do with making up? Even if we did, we’d at most just be people who know each other."

Hearing this, Li Chenlin’s expression soured. "I’m doing this for your own good. This isn’t the time for you to be stubborn and throw a tantrum."

Bai Su stared at him in disbelief. "I’m being stubborn and throwing a tantrum?"

Li Chenlin: "Did you not hear a single word I just said? The Medical Alliance has targeted you!"

"Do you have any idea what kind of organization the Medical Alliance is? They’re infamous internationally. Several countries, even working with the International Alliance, are helpless against them. You think the Snow Country alone can protect you?"

"Why do you think Lu Tingyan came to me for help?"

"Our Snake Beastmen’s poisonous miasma is a natural counter to the people from the Medical Alliance. The only way you’ll be safe is by my side!"

Bai Su took a deep breath. "Is this what Lu Tingyan wants too?"

Li Chenlin snorted coldly. "That stupid wolf. His compromising is just a matter of time. Unless he can persuade the International Federation to cooperate with him, there’s no way he can protect you."

Bai Su laughed, but out of anger. "So, all these arrangements are just your own wishful thinking, aren’t they?"

Li Chenlin stared into her eyes. After a long moment, his face darkened. "What do you mean?"

Bai Su sneered. "Li Chenlin, I’m not going with you."

At her words, a gloomy look flashed in his eyes. "Bai Su, this isn’t the time for you to be willful..."

"My business has nothing to do with you!" Bai Su cut him off impatiently.

She was truly fed up with Li Chenlin’s personality.

’Always so self-righteous, so full of wishful thinking.’

’He never respects my wishes.’

’In his eyes, am I just a weak female who can’t protect herself? Do I deserve to have no rights, to be ordered around by him in everything, to be forced to accept the ’favors’ he thinks are so great?’

Li Chenlin grimly grabbed her wrist again. "Bai Su, I’ll say it one more time. This is a very serious matter. Don’t be willful! I’m doing this for your own good!"

Bai Su struggled, the disgust in her eyes no longer concealable. "Let me go!"

She was so sick of this feeling—of people supposedly doing things "for her own good" while completely disregarding her wishes, never asking her opinion, and forcibly making decisions on her behalf.

It was as if she weren’t a living person, but a puppet who only needed to obey their arrangements.

Li Chenlin’s grip on her hand kept tightening, the displeasure in his eyes deepening. "Stop making a scene!"

Bai Su flew into a rage as well. She raised her other hand and slapped him across the face. "Get lost!"

Li Chenlin cupped his face in disbelief, blood rushing to his head in anger.

Li Chenlin stared at her grimly. "Bai Su, no one has ever dared to treat me this way. You’ve got some nerve."

Bai Su looked at him with disgust. "You helped us, and I’ll remember that favor. But for me to go with you? Impossible!"

Li Chenlin was too volatile. When he flew into a rage, he didn’t care about anyone else.

Her wrist was already bruised purple from his grip.

It hurt like hell.

Li Chenlin sneered, "Fine. I must be a fucking idiot for getting involved in your business!"

Bai Su held back her anger and took a deep breath. "I don’t want to fight with you right now. I will repay the favor I owe. If you ever need my help with anything in the future, just ask."

To Li Chenlin, all his days of waiting and effort now seemed like a complete joke!

He stared at Bai Su gloomily. "You are the high and mighty Level 8 Female. How would I dare trouble Your Excellency for help? I won’t appear again to be an eyesore to you."

Bai Su: "..."

Li Chenlin turned and left, slamming the door with a BANG.

Outside the door, Lu Tingyan and Yelias, who had heard the argument, looked at each other, speechless.

Yelias clapped him on the shoulder. "I told you his personality isn’t a good match for Susu."

Lu Tingyan pinched the bridge of his nose. "How was I supposed to know he’d act like a rabid dog in front of Susu?"

Yelias thought for a moment, then looked at Lu Tingyan. "Have you noticed anything unusual about Susu?"

Lu Tingyan mulled it over for a moment. "You mean her emotional fluctuations regarding certain specific issues?"

Yelias nodded. "The last time Bai Ruyan came to see her, I don’t know what was said in the hospital room, but it provoked her so much that her spiritual power spiraled out of control. She almost took Bai Ruyan down with her."

Lu Tingyan contemplated for a moment. "Susu’s emotions are similar when she’s facing Li Chenlin."

Yelias nodded.

Lu Tingyan: "Put away that occupational hazard of yours where you love to study things. Everyone has things they don’t want to talk about and emotional triggers. If Susu doesn’t want to say, no one should force her."

Yelias looked at him. "But your plan to win over Li Chenlin to protect Susu has probably gone up in smoke. After all, the man wants to replace you as the First Beast Husband."

Lu Tingyan rolled his eyes. "In his dreams! This was my oversight. We’ll put the matter of Li Chenlin aside for now."

If Li Chenlin’s side won’t work, there’s still the International Alliance.

He just needed someone to protect Bai Su, to buy him time to wipe out the Medical Alliance in one fell swoop!
