Beast World: From Villainess to Cub-Raising Chef
Chapter 145 - 144: Joining a New Project
*
"A new project?" Bai Su looked at Yelias blankly. "For me?"
Yelias nodded. "I want to invite you to participate in the Lanton Family’s new project. Since the Medical Alliance already has its eyes on you, you might as well join the Lanton Family’s project completely and make a clean break with them."
Lu Tingyan looked at Yelias. "What kind of project is it?"
Bai Su was also a little curious.
Yelias said, "It’s a project focused on dietary nourishment for females. We’ve been researching how to use food to improve females’ bodily functions, making them stronger and healthier."
"And your food happens to be able to heal females. Under your dietary therapy, many females have not only gotten healthier but have also become pregnant."
"The Lanton Family has actually been secretly investigating the females you’ve healed, tracking their physical condition."
"We’ve found that the people you’ve healed have almost no side effects, and their bodily functions are excellent."
Bai Su thought for a moment. "So your research project is about improving the physical constitution of females?"
Yelias nodded. "To be precise, it’s about improving the physical constitution of all females globally."
Almost all of the Lanton Family’s core research projects were global in scale, which was why nearly every country treated them with great respect.
For example, the Lanton Family had previously developed a nutritional potion. It improved males’ physiques and increased the probability of comprehending new Skills when leveling up. That potion was also distributed globally.
But if any country acted against the Lanton Family’s interests, that potion naturally wouldn’t be distributed there. Even if that country wanted to buy it, they could only purchase it from other nations at a steep price.
Hearing this, Bai Su lowered her head in thought for a moment before asking the system in her mind, ’If the food I make with my Healing Ability can benefit the Lanton Family’s research, will I get points?’
System: ’There should be. As long as it’s beneficial to this world and is the right thing to do, you will generate corresponding points.’
It was just like how she earned points by opening a restaurant and selling food imbued with her Healing Ability, healing many people in the process.
Bai Su nodded slightly and glanced at the shop. She already had enough points to unlock many items in the advanced shop.
In the regular shop, ordinary points could be exchanged for more mundane, everyday items, like the boiler she used for cooking, or various cooking ingredients and seasonings.
People in the Beast World didn’t cook, so many seasonings were unavailable.
Things like curry paste and hot pot base were all things she had redeemed from the shop.
Now that she had more points, she could unlock the advanced shop.
There were many more items inside.
For example, the dagger she had redeemed before—a single strike was all it took to kill.
’Since the Medical Alliance has their eyes on me, the people around me might be in danger too.’
’It’s always a good idea to redeem a few more self-defense items. I should get some for the cubs, and for Lu Tingyan and the others too.’
After settling her plan, Bai Su looked at Yelias. "If I can help you all, I’m certainly willing. But I’m worried I don’t know anything, and after spring comes, my restaurant will open, so I won’t have much time."
Yelias looked at her reassuringly. "Don’t worry. You just need to provide food for us to study and cooperate with some minor tasks. It won’t take up too much of your time."
Only then did Bai Su nod.
Yelias then turned to Lu Tingyan. "This is a project my grandfather planned before he... before he left on a long journey. It’s also the core project for completely crushing the Medical Alliance."
This was because the Medical Alliance profited by researching female cloning and reproductive abilities.
They researched female clones, using them to sell replaceable organs to terminally ill females, as well as higher-level gestation sacs.
The Lanton Family, on the other hand, had always been dedicated to solving the problems of female frailty and infertility at their root, naturally putting them at odds with the Medical Alliance.
Bai Su’s food could cure many female illnesses, which to some extent cut off the Medical Alliance’s source of income. On top of that, the Medical Alliance already coveted her uterus and genes.
So even if he hadn’t become Bai Su’s second Beast Husband, the Lanton Family would have extended an olive branch to her one day.
The last time he returned to the Lanton Family, he had seen a document his grandfather hadn’t sent before he died. It solemnly conveyed the intention to invite Bai Su to join their research project.
Yelias had simply accelerated the process.
「The next day.」
Yelias took her to the Lanton Family’s medical research institute.
This was Bai Su’s first time in a place like this. The institute had a futuristic, high-tech aesthetic that was quite different from the Beast World she had come to know.
Everyone inside wore white lab coats and masks, looking exceptionally serious. However, it wasn’t as busy as she had imagined.
Yelias led her inside. The deeper they went, the fewer people there were.
The two of them pushed open the innermost door. A few old researchers were working inside. Beside them was a young male, wearing a mask that revealed a pair of eyes that looked exceptionally refined.
As Yelias led Bai Su in, everyone stopped what they were doing and looked in her direction.
Yelias looked at the group. "This is Bai Su, my wife. Starting today, she will be participating in our research project. I explained the specifics in the email I sent you all last night."
The old men’s expressions were varied, but none of them seemed particularly enthusiastic.
The young male, however, stepped forward. "So you’re Bai Su! Hello, my name is Sai’er. I look forward to working with you!"
Next to him was a young woman who looked exceptionally cold. When she saw Bai Su, she just gave a detached, indifferent snort, clearly not welcoming her.
Bai Su didn’t mind. She just nodded to the group and said, "Hello, everyone."
Sai’er stepped closer. "You can add me as a contact! You can ask me if you have any questions. I can solve basically anything!"
Bai Su frowned slightly. Her instincts told her she didn’t like this male.
But she still nodded. "Thank you."
She then took the food container from Yelias’s hands and placed it on the table. "I heard you want to study my food, so I brought some extra today. You can have a taste after you’re done with your research."
The oldest, Flar, looked at Bai Su, his gaze falling on the food container she had placed on the table. He frowned slightly. "No, thank you. I only consume nutritional supplements."
McKoff remained expressionless. "I’m old. My stomach probably can’t handle fresh food. My apologies."
Yelias’s eyes turned cold as he looked at them.
Sai’er quickly jumped in to smooth things over, smiling as he approached. "Bai Su, please don’t mind them. We medical researchers are like this. We have extremely strict requirements for our physical condition. The nutritional supplements we ingest each day are formulated according to our body’s test data for that day."
He leaned in and sniffed the food container. "It smells so good."
Yelias swept his displeased gaze over everyone. "I thought I made myself perfectly clear in last night’s email."
He looked at the three old men. "Grandpa Flar, Grandpa McKoff, Grandpa Dans, I expect you to prioritize the research project."
Only then did the men nod reluctantly. "Mm."
Sai’er chimed in again to smooth things over. "Yelias, you know Grandpa Flar and the others are just very straightforward. Don’t be like that."
Yelias took two steps back, shot him a cold glance, then turned his head to the person exuding a frosty aura. "Li Yue, you’ll be in charge of coordinating with Susu."
Li Yue clicked her tongue impatiently. "Tsk. I have a lot on my plate."
Yelias said, "If you’re not capable enough, I can have you transferred to another project."
Sai’er interjected again, "Let me guide her! Bai Su and I hit it off right away. If you entrust her to me, I promise nothing will go wrong!"
Yelias couldn’t be bothered with him and just looked at Li Yue. "Will you do it?"
Li Yue slammed the reagent in her hand down on the table in frustration. "Fine, I get it!"
Only then was Yelias satisfied. He led Bai Su away.
Sai’er watched the two of them leave, a sharp glint flashing through his smiling eyes.
