If that's the case, the cold demeanor she's putting on might be concealing her inner emotions.

This twisted personality must be properly corrected.

Wu Chang turned his head, his gaze showing a hint of hesitation.

Amber is now being firmly controlled by Erin, and the attic door isn't closed; it's undoubtedly a perfect opportunity to explore the attic.

But after some thought, he gave up.

The contents of the attic aren't important; gaining Amber's approval is. Since Amber is so worried about them that she didn't even bother to close the attic door, it would be somewhat excessive to use Amber's concern to secretly peek into her space.

He believes that even without using such a method, Amber would eventually allow him into the attic.

Erin's teaching persisted until 2:30 in the evening, until Amber couldn't hold her expression any longer and was constantly yawning, Erin then let her go back to rest.

The next morning, the family drove to Nokes Primary School, and before getting out of the car, Amber uncharacteristically took the initiative to talk to Wu Chang.

Wu Chang looked toward the rearview mirror and asked, "What's up?"

Amber said, "I will try not to skip class."

"What do you mean by try?" Wu Chang was about to correct Amber's wording but found that Amber had already gotten out of the car and ran off.

The school bell rang, and the campus returned to silence.

Today was Wu Chang's second official day of work, and his task today was still to familiarize himself with the campus.

Leading him and Erin on a tour was the history teacher Mavira, a middle-aged woman who looked in her forties and had a rigid demeanor.

Although Wu Chang questioned the necessity of Federal history lessons, which wouldn't be thicker than a supermarket flyer if not embellished, serving as bathroom reading that one could finish in one sitting,

he couldn't deny the necessity of having Mavira present because she was Amber's teacher and, according to other teachers, Mavira had helped Amber with numerous issues.

To be accurate, nearly every student has received assistance from Mavira.

Mavira worked meticulously, taking the two on a thorough tour of every place.

Nokes Primary School is a public school, not particularly large; originally, it had two teaching buildings, but one old teaching building, neglected and marred by accidents causing multiple student injuries due to safety issues, was temporarily sealed off and prohibited from entry.

The plan was to demolish the old teaching building and construct a dedicated administrative office and a multipurpose hall.

But at the time, coinciding with a financial crisis, the Federation Government didn't have the resources; lacking higher-level funding, the plan was put on hold, and it remains so to this day.

When passing the old teaching building, Mavira particularly advised Wu Chang and Erin not to enter out of curiosity as it's very dangerous inside.

Speaking of danger, a hint of horror flashed across Mavira's rigid face.

"I once went inside, and encountered something indescribable. To this day, I can't be sure if what I saw truly existed or if it was a hallucination born of anxiety."

"Fortunately, it was my firm belief that gave me the courage to walk out of that building. Trust me, it's an experience you definitely don't want to try."

Wu Chang almost instinctively replied with, "How do you know I don't want to?"

Having experienced the Mirror Killer, he already sensed the anomalies around Nokes Primary School, and Mavira's words suggested that the old building was evidently part of these anomalies.

He intended to inquire further, but Mavira didn't provide additional answers regarding her experiences and cautioned them both against curiosity.

After touring the campus and as they parted, Mavira reminded them:

"I know you two just adopted Amber, and your new family is still in the adjustment phase, but I'd like to say that once you become accustomed to each other, I hope you'll take some time to pay attention to Amber's studies."

"Amber is a very bright child, but she always resists studying in her heart, even deliberately answering incorrectly on questions she clearly knows during exams."

"Amber has been at this primary school; you could say I've watched her grow up. She's been through several foster families, but this situation has never changed. I hope you can help her."
