Betrayed in the Apocalypse? I'll Plunder My Way to the Top
Chapter 77: Do the Job, or Get Lost
"Jason Sterling, do you get some sick pleasure out of bullying a widow and her son?"
Sue Lawrence held her son, crying her heart out. This only enraged Vincent Lawrence more. As a father, he couldn’t stop himself from roaring, "Jason Sterling, get your old man over here!"
’I won’t even deign to argue with you. Get your father. We are simply not on the same level!’
"I..."
Jason Sterling’s head finally cleared a little.
He instinctively glanced at Victor Keller and couldn’t help but blurt out, "Why couldn’t it be that someone killed Ox?"
Seeing that he was still being obstinate, Victor Keller frowned. "It’s sixty degrees below zero. Do you really think someone without military-grade cold-weather gear could be outside in the middle of the night and not freeze to death?"
"Then why couldn’t it have been one of the people you took with you..."
"Enough. I already said we didn’t find any cold-weather gear. Ox was wearing his when he left..."
Jason Sterling’s mind, stuffed with the Debater’s logic, cut him off right there. "Then how can you rule out someone with a Space Ability hiding the body inside..."
Sue Lawrence: "..."
’Wow, what a guess. You’re actually right,’ she thought. She instinctively looked toward Victor Keller, wanting to see Mr. Keller’s reaction. Instead, Mr. Keller retorted on the spot, "Then you should be asking your own people! One of your guys has a Space Ability!"
As he spoke, he pointed a finger at Dominic Trent. Dominic never imagined this line of logic would end up pointing at him. He was stunned for a moment. Then, he belatedly remembered something: back at the storage warehouse, Sue had apparently exposed his Superpower. The Debater’s influence was useless. The fact that he possessed a Space Ability was already common knowledge.
At that moment, the people who had gone out with Victor Keller looked as if they’d had a sudden epiphany. "Oh, that’s right! Dominic Trent has a Space Ability, doesn’t he?"
"I remember now, too! He really does have a Space Ability!"
"Yeah, that’s right! Hey, one of your own people has a Space Ability. Are you suggesting one of your own killed your own man?"
Everyone thought Jason Sterling was just making trouble for no reason. Look at him, shamelessly trying to sling mud at a widow and her son.
Even Jason Sterling himself was stunned.
His mind gradually began to clear. With the Debater’s logic broken, he naturally came to his senses.
’That’s right. Sue Lawrence doesn’t have a Superpower, but Dominic Trent does!’
He whipped his head around to stare at Dominic Trent, his eyes filled with suspicion.
Dominic Trent was stunned as well and quickly explained, "Jason, I was asleep at the time!"
Watching this, Sue was practically dying of laughter internally. ’This whole drama is hilarious. Now they’re starting to suspect each other. Dominic Trent tried to divert the disaster onto me, but he just ended up setting himself on fire.’
’All I can say is, thank you, Mr. Keller. It’s true—everyone knows Dominic Trent has a Space Ability, but no one knows I have one, too.’
Sue Lawrence could barely suppress the smile on her lips, so she could only lower her head and cry while holding her son.
Leo Lawrence wrapped his arms around her. The little boy patted her back, comforting her in his small, sweet voice.
Just then, Wyatt Sterling finally pushed his way through the crowd.
"Dad..."
Jason Sterling looked at Wyatt Sterling, but the man just slapped him hard across the face.
SLAP! The crisp sound left Jason Sterling completely dumbfounded. He stared at Wyatt Sterling in disbelief. "Dad..."
"You bastard! How dare you speak to Mr. Lawrence like that? Have you lost all your manners? Apologize to him!"
Jason Sterling’s eyes darkened. Wyatt Sterling couldn’t help but roar, "Behave yourself!"
Then, he lowered his voice and said, "You’re not my only son!"
’There’s still Jayden Sterling. If you can’t handle this position, I’ll let him do it!’
Jason Sterling was startled. Only then did he obediently turn back, face Vincent Lawrence, and bow in apology. "I’m sorry, Mr. Lawrence. I only lost my composure because my good friend is missing..."
Vincent Lawrence’s expression was grim. "You should be apologizing to my daughter. She’s the one you falsely accused!"
Vincent Lawrence’s voice was firm and resolute. Sue Lawrence also lifted her eyes to look over.
’Jason Sterling really does owe me an apology, both in this life and the last.’
’If it hadn’t been for all of you, I, Sue Lawrence, might have established my own base long ago in my past life. But in the end...’
She took a deep breath, suppressed the emotions welling up inside her, and stared coldly at Jason Sterling.
"Apologize."
She spoke in a low voice, her words trembling.
Jason Sterling stared at Sue Lawrence and opened his mouth, but no sound came out. He found that he couldn’t bring himself to say a single word of apology to her. Instead, he had always felt that Sue was the one who owed him.
’In our past life, you did absolutely nothing. You were just a burden holding everyone back. Why should I have to apologize to you now?’
Jason Sterling remained stubbornly frozen in place, but Sue Lawrence only found it laughable.
’Isn’t it hilarious? Even after all this, this man still refuses to say a single word of apology to me. Just how pathetic was I in his eyes during our past life? Was I worth even less than an ant on the side of the road?’
She watched him coldly, then quickly scooped up her son and turned to leave.
"The great Mr. Sterling is far too noble. I suppose bowing is beneath him."
She sneered mockingly. As expected, Jason Sterling’s expression turned even uglier. "Sue, you were never this aggressive before. You used to be so gentle and understanding..."
"The past is the past, and now is now." Her face darkened. "And you never used to be this stupid!"
"You!"
"Brother!"
Jayden Sterling grabbed him, shaking his head and urging in a low voice, "Dad is watching you!"
The comparison made the elder son seem reckless, while the younger son appeared to have a better grasp of the bigger picture. Jason Sterling’s heart sank. Forgetting all about his pride, he bowed his head to Sue Lawrence. "Sue, I’m sorry. I was wrong. I shouldn’t have..."
"Too late." Sue Lawrence didn’t even turn her head, her voice a cold sneer. "You didn’t apologize before, so now it’s too late. Jason Sterling, from this moment on, I will accept nothing from you!"
"Sue Lawrence! Can’t you stop being so unreasonable..."
Jason Sterling could no longer hold back and roared, but Sue Lawrence only walked away faster.
’I knew it,’ she thought. ’It wasn’t sincere at all.’
As the Lawrence Family walked further away, Elliot Lawrence clenched his fists in anger. "That Jason Sterling, was he a rabid dog in a past life? Does he have to latch onto you and never let go?"
Sue Lawrence could only give a helpless smile. "You can only blame my past self for being too stupid."
’To think I actually believed that after I gave birth to Leo, Jason Sterling would still love me like he did before. It was all just a hypocritical act.’
After the commotion died down, Wyatt Sterling dragged Jason Sterling back to their tent, his face cold. The moment they were inside, he grabbed Jason by the collar, hauled him up, and hissed through gritted teeth, "Jason Sterling, the only reason I let you lead this team is because you were reborn. If you can’t handle this position, there are plenty of others who can take your place. Your brother, for one, would be a much better choice!"
