Chapter 79: Chapter 79: No Need to Give Face

Everyone knew that Pamela Sutton was Donovan Lawrence’s mother. They also knew she was a money-grubbing woman who couldn’t stand to see Sue Lawrence succeed. More importantly, now that Donovan Lawrence was also missing, it was the perfect opportunity to use Ox’s disappearance to blame Sue for everything.

Having made up her mind, Tiana Lynch had Jason Sterling help her go find Pamela Sutton.

Pamela Sutton and Evan Lawrence were eating. The tent they lived in and the food they ate were all from the Sterling Group. They owed it all to her son, Donovan Lawrence. One could only say that Donovan had latched onto a good benefactor.

"Auntie."

Tiana Lynch’s voice was sweet. Pamela Sutton quickly put down her meal box to help her. This was their benefactor, their boss. In this apocalypse, their very survival depended on people like her.

"Your eyes are injured? Let me take a look."

Pamela Sutton was eager to contribute in any way she could. However, she soon discovered that her Healing Skill had little effect on Tiana Lynch’s injury.

"Wh-what on earth is happening?"

Pamela Sutton first began to doubt her own Ability. She subconsciously looked at her hands. ’I don’t think there’s anything wrong with me.’

"It’s fine. This one isn’t easy to heal."

Tiana Lynch kept smiling. "Um, I have something I need to talk to you about. Can we speak privately?"

Evan Lawrence and Jason Sterling left together, leaving the two of them alone in the tent.

Tiana Lynch listened carefully. Once she was sure no one was around, she slowly began, "Auntie, did you know? Ox went missing this time, too. The one he went out with was Sue Lawrence."

Pamela Sutton’s expression instantly turned grim.

She still hadn’t asked Sue Lawrence about what happened to Donovan Lawrence.

"I heard Sue brought back a lot of supplies this time. You all share the Lawrence name; you’re family. Auntie, shouldn’t Donovan’s share be in there too? Don’t you think?"

It only took a few words to set Pamela Sutton off. She was instantly furious.

"Right, how could I forget about that! Donovan said that Sue Lawrence’s family has tons of supplies..."

She then remembered what she’d seen in Sue Lawrence’s living room: the piles of vegetables and all that money. Even employees of the Lawrence Group had gotten a share of things. How could Sue have so much and give it to outsiders instead of her own family?

Pamela Sutton declared, "I’m going to go demand our share right now!"

Tiana Lynch listened to the sound of Pamela Sutton leaving, a faint smile playing on her lips.

She touched her bandaged eyes. She wasn’t angry, merely pensive as she thought about that man, Silas Hawthorne.

The man Jason Sterling said they had to win over at all costs.

Meanwhile, Sue Lawrence had returned home.

Vivian Young, Mia Keller, and Jenny Norris had all been worried about her. They were overjoyed to see her back.

"Sue, are you okay?"

"I’m fine, don’t worry."

’I just took care of someone, that’s all.’

"Quick, quick, we saved some goodies for you!"

Vivian Young pulled her over to the table, where six very fresh-looking oranges were sitting.

Sue Lawrence looked surprised. "Where did these come from?"

Jenny Norris chuckled. "They were distributed. We’ve all eaten!"

"That’s right, we’ve all eaten."

Mia Keller nodded too. "These are for you and your brother."

’They’ve all eaten?’

"How many did they give out?"

’There are seven people in our family. They’ve all eaten? And there are still six left? How many oranges could they have possibly given out? Do the shelter’s supplies even allow for this kind of distribution?’

"Quite a few."

Vivian Young just smiled. Sue Lawrence nodded, said she was going to change her clothes, and went into the inner room, calling her son in with her. When it was just the two of them, she instinctively asked, "Leo, tell Mommy the truth. How many oranges did they give out?"

Leo hesitated for a moment before saying, "Mommy, they gave out seven oranges, one for each person. I was really craving one, so Grandma let me eat one. I... I didn’t eat it all by myself! I shared it with everyone, one slice of orange for each person."

Sue Lawrence was touched.

’Even though my space is full of food, my family still scrimped and saved to leave the oranges for me.’

Seven oranges. Her family had only partaken of one, and even then, they had shared it slice by slice, just so the rest could be saved.

Her mother and sister-in-law doted on Leo just as they doted on her.

"Mm, you did the right thing. When Mommy’s not home, you have to protect Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle, and Auntie for me, understand?"

"Yeah, I understand."

She changed her clothes and washed her face with some water she had stockpiled in her space. Only then did she feel some of her exhaustion wash away.

When she came out, Jenny Norris was holding her back while making the bed. Her belly was already showing, but she still did her best to help out, not wanting to seem like a useless person who couldn’t do anything.

The family was chatting when the door was suddenly thrown open, and Pamela Sutton barged in.

She had come for supplies in the first place, but the moment she walked in, she saw the oranges on the table—several of them. She exploded on the spot.

"Aha! So you really are hiding the good stuff!"

’My son Donovan was right. This family never treated us like relatives. They were always on guard, afraid we’d take advantage of them. Well, well, haven’t I caught them red-handed??’

"My son was right! You people, you never even treated our family like human beings!"

"Nonsense!"

Elliot Lawrence couldn’t stand it anymore. He stood up and said, "In the past, whenever you came to our house crying, was there ever a time my dad didn’t give you money? And now you say we don’t treat you like people? Why don’t you take a look at yourselves and see if you’re even acting like human beings!"

"Bah! I am your elder! Your dad hasn’t even spoken, what right do you have to talk! You little brat!"

Pamela Sutton’s clamorous cursing drew a crowd, and people started pointing and whispering in their direction.

The only people allowed in this area were key personnel; ordinary people living in the tents outside couldn’t get in. Pamela Sutton’s shouting mostly attracted the prying eyes of mid-level residents.

Vincent Lawrence’s expression was as grim as it could be. He felt that not even the supplies he had donated could save him now. This woman, Pamela Sutton, had ruined everything.

"That’s enough! Please get out!"

"Bah!" Pamela Sutton shrieked. "Vincent Lawrence, you should be thanking my husband for the fact that you’re even alive! Without my husband, you’d have died long ago! You owe our family! Giving us money and supplies is only right and proper! It’s..."

SMACK!

A resounding slap landed squarely on her face. It was Vivian Young who had hit her. Her eyes were red with rage, and her whole body trembled. "Get out! You are not welcome here! Get the hell out!"

Pamela Sutton was stunned.

’In the past, Vivian Young always received me so politely, calling me "sister-in-law" this and "sister-in-law" that. Whenever I came to Sue’s home, she’d always treat me to the best food and drinks. But now, Vivian actually hit her and told her to get out??’

"Do you even see me as your sister-in-law anymore? Vivian Young, you’re just an outsider! What right do you have..."

"This is my home!"

Vivian Young was no longer the good-tempered, sheltered housewife she used to be. The apocalypse had made her see everything clearly.

"I am the mistress of this house! This is my husband, my son, my daughter, and my daughter-in-law! Why wouldn’t I have the right? Or are you saying that you, the outsider, are the one with the right? Pamela Sutton, who the hell do you think you are!"
