Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Laugh at Yourself

For a moment, everyone was stunned. They all subconsciously stared at the number one spot on the leaderboard. No one could remember the long, sixteen-digit number, only the last four: 9527.

"Oh my god, that can’t be some government insider, can it?"

"Exactly! How else could someone get so many points? Over four hundred! It’s only been a few days!" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

"But didn’t the points system just come out today? And they already have over four hundred points. There has to be some kind of inside track, right?"

The crowd couldn’t help but start murmuring among themselves.

It wasn’t just them; Jason Sterling was also looking at the points.

Tiana Lynch’s eyes still hadn’t healed, but her hearing was sharp. She instinctively asked, "Jason, what’s the highest score? Is it over a hundred?"

Jason Sterling’s expression was absolutely foul.

’He never expected someone to have over four hundred points.’

’This is insane! Over four hundred... How is that not an inside job?’

Among all the people the Sterling Group had brought, Dominic Trent had the most points. He’d earned ten for helping transport supplies and another one for completing a mission. As for the rest, even Jason himself only had three points. Tiana Lynch had just one, as she hadn’t been able to do any missions because of her eyes.

Jason Sterling’s expression was grim. "Even the head nurse in the infirmary can’t treat your eyes. She said it was a Superpower attack. Who the hell is it that’s always out to get us?"

The thought of it made Jason Sterling extremely agitated. That so-called terrible luck seemed to be constantly lingering around him, never leaving.

Damn it!

Tiana Lynch lowered her eyelids. ’Actually, my eyes are already healed. I was planning to pretend to be blind for a while, but now this points system has appeared.’

’And I only have a pathetic 1 point!’

’I have to find a way to earn more points. But...’

She touched her eyes, and a smile suddenly graced her lips.

’I wonder how many points Sue Lawrence has. She went on one mission with her brother, so she probably has two points at most. That’s only one more than me.’

"Jason, the most urgent thing is to have our people start taking missions right away. It’s clear that missions are valuable, and Superpower Users earn even more points."

Pleased with herself for having discovered this pattern, Tiana Lynch offered her suggestion. Jason Sterling thought about it and agreed, so he gathered his people for a short meeting.

Wyatt Sterling and Jayden Sterling were there, as were members of the Norris Family.

"What? Do more missions?"

Felix Norris nodded and looked at Tia Norris. "In our family, your Superpower is the most suitable for the apocalypse. You must do your missions well. For the difficult and dangerous ones, you’ll go first, got it?"

Tia Norris’s Ice Control Skill was practically a cheat code for the extreme cold apocalypse. Not only could it control ice, but the ice layer also had an insulating effect. As long as she formed a thick layer of ice over her clothes, she was basically guaranteed to avoid frostbite.

Tia Norris nodded smugly.

She had noticed her Superpower growing stronger recently. ’It must be because I’m using it so much, just like leveling up a skill,’ she thought. ’The power I use up probably regenerates quickly, too.’

’I don’t know why my Superpower depletes, but as long as it comes back, I’m fine.’

"Alright then!" Jason Sterling announced. "Everyone does more missions, and all the Points get turned in. We’ll pool them to exchange for more useful supplies for everyone to use together. If we exchange them for physical goods, we’ll divide everything equally!"

It was the same old trick: collect everything into his own hands, then carry out a "unified distribution." This was the game capitalists played best. After all, no one would ever know how things were truly distributed or how much was left over. It was all just empty talk.

But almost everyone agreed, because they simply hadn’t considered that possibility.

After the meeting, everyone went to the mission registration area. They not only signed up but also wrote down their Superpowers, afraid they would be passed over for high-point missions.

Tiana Lynch went along. As they were writing down their Superpowers, she specifically instructed Jason Sterling, "See how many names from the Lawrence Family are on there."

Jason Sterling frowned and quickly bent down to look.

However, he scanned the list from top to bottom and didn’t see a single name from the Lawrence Family. Instead, he saw Mia Keller’s name. The Superpower section read: Luck.

’Luck?’

’What kind of bullshit Superpower is that?’

Jason Sterling scoffed.

He signed his name and wrote down the Superpower he had just obtained.

His hand trembled slightly as he wrote, but he still quickly jotted down the words.

C Level evasion.

’Although it’s not as good as the Superpower I had in my past life, this one appeared much earlier. That powerful offensive Superpower from my last life, Fire Manipulation, will be mine sooner or later.’

Finished, he turned back, looking satisfied. "Not a single person in the Lawrence Family has a Superpower, Tiana. We didn’t make a mistake. It was right not to bring Sue Lawrence along. The Lawrence Family didn’t even survive the extreme cold in my past life. This time around, if things hadn’t changed and the government hadn’t stepped in to rescue people, that whole family might have already died!"

Hearing that no one in the Lawrence Family had a Superpower, Tiana Lynch actually frowned.

"Isn’t that probability a little too low?"

’In Pamela Sutton’s family of three, one person awakened a Superpower, and it was even a useful Healing System type. Sue Lawrence’s family has six people, plus Mia Keller makes seven. Out of seven people, only Mia Keller awakened a Superpower, and it’s a useless one like Luck?’

’Is that even possible?’

"What’s so impossible about it?"

Jason Sterling looked smug, feeling like he could stand tall again.

"Everyone is listing their Superpowers for the sake of Points right now. The Lawrence Family isn’t stupid enough to hide them at a critical time like this. If they didn’t write any down, it must mean they don’t have any. Hmph. A family of deadweights. And Dad still wants me to get on good terms with them? What’s there to get on good terms about?"

Tiana Lynch said nothing more. She knew that while Jason Sterling said those things, in his heart, he was likely still partial to Sue Lawrence.

She spoke instinctively, "Sigh, I wonder how many points Sue Lawrence has now. Even I, with my injured eyes, have at least one point..."

"Who cares how many she has."

Jason Sterling stood up. "Today’s missions are about to start, so I’m leaving. You stay here and rest your eyes. Get them healed quickly so you can start doing missions."

"Okay."

Tiana Lynch maintained her smile, all the while wondering when would be the right time to "recover" and pretend her eyes were healed.

Soon, Jason Sterling and his group arrived at the assembly point by the entrance, only to find Sue Lawrence, Elliot Lawrence, and Mia Keller were all there.

Jason Sterling frowned and deliberately walked over, greeting them with a wide smile. "Sue, what are you doing here?"

Sue Lawrence couldn’t be bothered to respond. Elliot Lawrence spoke coolly, "And why are you here?"

A smug look appeared on Jason Sterling’s smiling face. "Oh, I suddenly awakened a Superpower yesterday, so of course I’m here for a mission. How many points do you guys have? I have three right now. After today’s mission, I expect I’ll have six."

He had expected to see shocked expressions on their faces. After all, people without Superpowers earned very few points. Yet after he spoke, the three of them showed no reaction whatsoever. They were unnervingly calm.
