Binjiang Police Affairs
Chapter 1466 - 254: The Main Force Arrives (Part 2)
Three transport planes safely landed one after another.
Secretary Lu, Vice Mayor Qin, Commander Wang, and other leaders got in the car again, accompanied by the station leader, heading to the apron to welcome them.
Upon reaching the apron, they realized that the Chief of Staff of the 105th Army couldn’t come due to an unexpected situation, and leading the team was the former commander of the 404th Division, now Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang of the 105th Army.
Under normal circumstances, a regular commander-level officer wouldn’t merit Secretary Lu’s personal welcome.
While Han Yu wondered if Secretary Lu was disappointed, Vice Mayor Qin, who had met Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang during a visit to Jingzhou years ago, greeted him warmly and assisted with introductions.
"Secretary Lu, Mayor Qin, Commander Wang, sorry for the inconvenience. General Lu entrusted me to express his heartfelt gratitude to you. Chief of Staff Yang had an urgent matter and couldn’t make it, and he asked me to apologize on his behalf."
"Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang, your presence is just as valued. Besides, we share a long-standing relationship; we are old friends!"
"Thank you for understanding, Secretary Lu."
"Salted Fish, what are you doing hiding back there? Look at who this is." Secretary Lu called out, turning back.
Han Yu quickly stepped up, saluting: "Hello, Commander, welcome to Binjiang."
"Why call me Commander? As Secretary Lu said, what kind of relationship do we have? Don’t be so formal, right?" Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang laughed heartily, glancing at the Special Warfare Group soldiers disembarking. He introduced: "Secretary Lu, we have brought over 280 people this time, and will need your support for the next month."
"It’s no trouble; having you in Binjiang for training is an honor for us."
Secretary Lu smiled, speaking with a rhythmic cadence: "Training in Binjiang for a month, it seems this coming month will be part of Binjiang’s history of embracing military and civilian unity! Today you arrived by military aircraft, and in 21 days, the Binjiang Ship will return to Binjiang.
Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang, this is your first time here. Although the Binjiang Ship has been in service for so many years and has even been to Zengmu Ansha, this is its first time ’coming home’! Two firsts, very significant. Tonight we will hold a small welcome ceremony, and when the Binjiang Ship arrives, we’ll organize a grand welcome ceremony!"
The return of the Binjiang Ship to Binjiang is even more significant than the Special Warfare Group’s training in Binjiang.
Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang nodded and laughed: "Thank you, Secretary Lu, you are too kind."
"It’s only right, Salted Fish, don’t you think?"
"Yes!"
Han Yu said yes, but thought to himself that it didn’t concern him.
Vice Mayor Qin laughed: "Secretary Lu, Commander Wang, the Air Force has arrived, and in a few days, the Navy will be here too; Land, Sea, and Air Forces, all that’s missing now is the Army!"
"Secretary Lu, Mayor Qin, the Linghai Reserve Camp is the Army, isn’t it? We’ve gathered all Land, Sea, and Air Forces, now only the Second Artillery is missing."
"The Second Artillery definitely won’t come; we haven’t had any dealings with them. Having the Land, Sea, and Air Forces is enough."
As they spoke, the Special Warfare Group had already sorted their gear and lined up.
After roll-call for each camp, the regiment commander ran over to report to Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang.
Binjiang arranged everything very well, so Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang naturally invited Secretary Lu to say a few words. Secretary Lu, in his capacity as First Political Commissioner of the Binjiang Military District, stepped in front of the formation, raised the portable loudspeaker previously prepared by the station, warmly welcomed the arrival of the Special Warfare Group, and recalled the history of the Binjiang Flood Control Rescue Camp and the Jiangnan Province Military District Linghai Reserve Camp joining forces with the 105th Army’s 404th Division in flood relief efforts...
To Han Yu’s surprise, Secretary Lu actually named him, Xiao Yu, Ma Jintao, Zhang Erxiao, and Guo Weitao—Reservists who had participated in flood relief—to step forward, highlighting the deep friendship between Binjiang City and the 105th Army.
Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang followed suit, calling Li Shousong, Dai Ming, and two 404th Division soldiers from the 132nd Regiment who were selected into the Special Warfare Group to step forward.
Master Dai and the two soldiers who had worked in the 132nd Regiment were extremely excited to see Han Yu, Xiao Yu, and the others. They didn’t bother with saluting and immediately embraced warmly, drawing enthusiastic applause.
The welcome ceremony was simple but meaningful.
At Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang’s command, the entire regiment’s officers and soldiers, under the leadership of the regiment commander and Deputy Chief of Staff Li Shousong, lined up to board the vehicles and first went to rest inside the station. They planned to have dinner at the station later, and then head to the Linghai Reserve Camp located in the Linghai Development Zone after dark.
For the next month, the Linghai Reserve Camp would be their base of operations.
Every morning, they would take military transport from the temporary motor pool to the seaside, and return to camp by vehicle each evening after training. Yanjiang Road had few vehicles, so the Linghai Police Bureau and Dongqi Police Bureau would arrange traffic police at various intersections daily to ensure the convoy ran smoothly.
City leaders would host a banquet in honor of Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang.
Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang naturally wouldn’t eat a boxed meal at the station, so he accepted Secretary Lu’s invitation to board the Coaster vehicle directly to the city.
Han Yu was definitely expected to accompany them, but he wasn’t keen on riding in a vehicle full of leaders. As he contemplated finding an excuse to ride in the Military District vehicle, Dai Ming, carrying a pile of luggage on his shoulder, approached.
"Secretary Han, where’s your vehicle? Can I ride with you?"
"Are you heading to the city too?"
"Wherever the senior leaders go, I go. I’m not part of the Special Warfare Group, nor am I under Li Shousong."
His relationship with Li Shousong was somewhat like the relationship between Secretary Wang and Old Ge.
Thinking of this, Han Yu simply opened the trunk of the Military District’s off-road vehicle. While helping him pack his luggage inside, he laughed and asked, "Are you now Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang’s secretary?"
"Our unit doesn’t have secretaries, but the work is pretty similar," Dai Ming chuckled, explaining, "I transferred from the regiment to the headquarters. I used to be a military staff officer, and I still am, just that I’ve moved from being a staff officer in the regiment’s military office to the military office of the headquarters."
"Transferred to the headquarters, that’s a promotion. Didn’t you serve as the head of the military office before?"
"Only for two years, but I’ve always been in the military department, no matter where I go, people find it annoying and offensive, always doing the kind of work that gets on people’s nerves."
The military office is also set up by the Rescue Boat Team.
However, the military department of the reserve forces can’t be compared with that of the active-duty forces.
The military department of active-duty forces wields significant power. Its responsibilities can be summarized into five roles: first, overseeing the organizational structure of the forces, supervising execution, handling the establishment, dissolution, and adjustment of established units; second, collaborating with relevant departments to prepare for personnel mobilization.
Third, it manages the replenishment and allocation of personnel, including the transfer of retired and active-duty staff; fourth, it’s responsible for statistical analysis of military strength, monitoring battle losses, and weapon equipment depletion; fifth, and most feared by grassroots units, it also handles the administrative management of the forces, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations!
The inspection team falls under their jurisdiction; regardless if one is an officer or a soldier, everyone fears them.
Han Yu couldn’t help but ask with a smile, "So, you’re a supervisor, overseeing military conduct and prompting Li Shousong to manage his soldiers well?"
"Secretary Han, stop teasing me, it’s not as exaggerated as you say."
"He got promoted to deputy regiment commander, and the soldiers under him are proud and fierce. If you don’t keep an eye on him, he’ll get carried away." Han Yu pulled him into the car and continued to joke, "Brother, you’re supervising them. You can’t be without soldiers under you. Want me to help you borrow a few soldiers from the Military District’s guard company to form a temporary inspection team?"
Master Dai laughed, "Secretary Han, spare me. I’m an Air Force military staff officer. Asking the Army to supervise the Air Force’s conduct would be inviting a wolf into the house, wouldn’t it? If I did that, they’d scold me to death."
"The inspection team is Army, even if you leave the camp, won’t they still supervise you?"
"That’s different. The inspection team has the authority to supervise us, but I can’t invite them to do so."
"No more joking. Master Ge is very happy to hear you’re here. He wants to invite you to dinner tomorrow and called me to join."
The person Dai Ming most wanted to see in Binjiang was Master Ge, and he eagerly asked, "Secretary Han, how is Master Ge’s health?"
Han Yu knew he truly respected Old Ge, so he couldn’t help but smile and said, "Strong as ever, he’s in excellent health!"
"Li Shousong said Master Ge had a lovely daughter even after retiring, is that true?"
"It’s true. It’s precisely because of her birth that he’s getting younger; his mindset is even healthier than his body. The little baby is beautiful and adorable. You’ll see her tomorrow."
Master Ge is just Master Ge, even in retirement he had a daughter with his wife, always surprising and extraordinary!
Dai Ming admired Master Ge even more, and exclaimed, "Secretary Han, should I be considered her older brother in terms of seniority?"
"Is there any doubt?" Han Yu patted his arm and laughed heartily, "You might not know, but Master Ge’s wife is my master’s wife, and the little baby is a sister to me and Xiao Yu. If you were considered equal with Master Ge, having her call you uncle would never be agreed to by me and Xiao Yu!"
"Master Ge is an elder and a leader, how could I qualify to be on equal terms with him. Secretary Han, having a little sister like her is quite fun, actually."
"Yes, it is quite fun."
"Secretary Han, do you have a mobile phone? Can I borrow it for a moment?"
"To report safety to your wife?"
"No need to contact my wife. I want to call Master Ge."
Calling on a mobile phone is expensive.
Normally, I wouldn’t lend it, but this person isn’t just anybody. He has genuine respect for Master Ge, who he once followed and trusted implicitly, even willing to retire after the flood control to follow Master Ge to Binjiang.
Han Yu didn’t want to disappoint him, so he took out his mobile phone and dialed the number for "General Building," then handed it over to let him speak with Master Ge.
"Master Ge, it’s Dai Ming. I’ve arrived in Binjiang, traveling here with Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang. I’m in Secretary Han’s car, on the way to Binjiang District with him."
Hearing Old Ge’s voice, Dai Ming felt extremely excited. Looking out at the farmlands through the car window, he held the phone tightly and said, "Chief of Staff Yang had something come up last minute and couldn’t make it. Since Deputy Chief of Staff Jiang is in charge of the Special Warfare Group, the military leaders decided to let him lead the team. What, what, where are you staying, I’m not busy tomorrow, so I’ll come see you."
Old Ge expected this question and casually said over the phone, "Here at Binjiang Seaside, a plain formed by the silt deposits of the Yangtze River, there’s only one Lang Mountain in all of Binjiang, and I live in Lang Mountain.
You’re not familiar with Binjiang, so the Linghai Reserve Camp will surely arrange a car for you. Just tell the driver you need to go to the Binjiang Reserve Group, he’ll know. Once at the Binjiang Reserve Group Camp, ask the soldier on duty where ’General Building’ is, and he’ll bring you here."
There’s only one mountain in all of Binjiang, and Master Ge lives in it, residing in the General Building!
Dai Ming was even more thrilled, hastily saying, "Alright, thank you Master Ge, I’ll definitely come tomorrow, and I’ll come early!"
