Chapter 130: Why was I the only defect?

Watching the children disperse was the fun part of Mira’s day.

Some of the cubs shifted into their beasts while the others an in their human forms.

[Do you think it safe to let them do your dirty work, host?] popped on the screen before Mira.

Mira did not know. The last time she had little minions doing things for her. She governed the entire thing but the cheetah clan was really vast in land. She had no clue about anywhere and she needed people with good knowledge of the environment on her side. Mira took in a deep breath till her lungs were fully puffed with air. She let out a heavy exhale as she watched the cubs vanish into the environment.

"I think so. The cheetah cubs may be rebels but they know how to work as a team, and I will be right behind them." Mira said to System. If she was not a defect, she would have shifted too and followed them but there was only as far as her human feet could go.

Mira’s eyes lowered to stare at her legs. She flicked her toes to move. She always knew the old owner of this body was a defect so she never tried to shift when she got transmigrated into this body but she never knew why the old Mira was a defect.

The old owner of this body had no memories pointing out the reason why she could not turn into her beast. She also had nothing that proved she was a special beast lady hence the inability. Like every other beast person, the old Mira was born normally, yet she was the only one I the beast world that could not shift. That must have been rough for her to handle. Mira did not want to imagine a world where she was the only one who could not do or have the things everyone else had.

[Well, you do not need to image no more, host! You are living in such world!] system chimed.

Mira’s face flattened. She swore, sometimes, system chose the wrong moment to be system.

"You just had to." Mira said aloud.

[Hehehe. If I don’t, who will, host?!] Syetem remarked.

Well, her cubs. Her husbands. The entire beast people who hated her very existence, the list could go on but Mira decided to stay shut about it and keep these thoughts in her head.

"Can I ask you something, system?" Mira cooed. She waited for system to respond. The time suddenly felt slowed and breeze gushed from every direction at her, filling her hair and pushing it onto her face and everywhere.

[Sure host!

You do not even need to ask me if you should ask me something!]

Mira could swear there was some mockery in there but she chose not to comment on it. She inhaled then exhaled, staring into empty space as the question weighed on her lips.

"Why can this Mira not shift? What happened to prevent her from it? I need to understand it. And is there a cure for this defect? Can she one day be like a normal beast woman and shift whenever she wanted?" These were so many questions and Mira knew but the more she asked. The more she wanted to know. "There are so many memories but nothing tells me why she is in this defective state. I feel like a stranger in this body whenever I think about this." Mira concluded her sentence. Her eyes returned to her legs. She did not know how to shift either so she could not even try. It hurt Mira to know that the old owner of this body never got to experience what it was like to connect with her beast. If shifting was like any of the novels Mira had read while on earth, then the old Mira’s evil nature was justified.

[You are a stranger in this body.] system reminded, breaking Mira’s memory.

Mira made a face. "Can you for once read the room and act like it?" She huffed.

[If I did that all the time, then it would be no fun! System delights in getting reactions from host!] Mira saw the image of a blob with wings dance around in hops.

She knew system was loving this way too much so she gave up.

[To answer your question, I am sorry but I cannot give you any detail about that part of the old Mira. The time for you to know has not yet come.] System beamed.

Ah, so there was a reason? Was that reason somehow blurred out of the old Mira’s memories when it came to this Mira? It would explain a lot on why she never knew why.

Mira cleared her throat. "Then I will wait for the right time. Hopefully, it would not take too long." Mira uttered.

[ I guess we will never know, host!] system chimed.

Mira had more questions about this but she decided not to ask. In fact, there was one question that lurked at the back of her mind more than anything. Why was it that she, the first true born daughter of her mother was the defective fox when her sister, the one that came right after her was not in any way defective?

Yes, Mira and Hye Yang had different fathers, but they came out of the same womb. And to make this even more questionable, none of either of their families had bloodlines of any defects so why was the only defect her?

Mira tried not to think about this, she would not get the answer now anyway and she had no idea why this thought came to her mind in the first place.

"I think it best to go after the cubs and see how they are faring." Mira said aloud.

[You think?] system took a jab at her.

"I should." Mira rephrased her earlier words. She ensured the sheet holding the meat was well preserved before she hung it over at her back and tied it across her chest. The only problem now was, she did not know where to begin going. "System, can you track the cubs whereabouts?" Mira asked.

[ I sure can! ] system chimed. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

"Then. . ." Mira began. "Why did you not track Hye Yang’s whereabouts for me?" Mira questioned with a furrowed brow.

[Because you didn’t ask.] system responded.

[*wink wink*]

You know what? Mira did not even bother.
