Chapter 41: Corridor of Broken Dreams. Part-1.
The front yard was massive, and the closer Zephyr got to the house, the more he realized how insanely big this gigantic structure was.
’All this was made from just a single tentacle of a powerful monster? How big must that monster have been if just a single tentacle is already this big?’
As the duo approached the front door of the massive building, it opened on its own as if inviting Zephyr and Xinran inside.
Usually, if something like this had happened in movies, Zephyr would shout at the TV that the main characters were idiots for going inside a haunted house despite knowing the risks.
But the current him didn’t have the liberty to retreat.
It was either death from dehydration or to keep moving forward despite all the troubles, and the choice Zephyr made was obviously to keep moving forward.
If he were going to die either way, at least he would die trying his best to survive.
*Tak!* *Eeeemmmm!* *tak!!*
As Zephyr entered the giant stone house, he found himself stepping into utter darkness.
An eerie voice of some kind of weird creature screaming in the distance started to echo in the massive empty corridor as the giant gate closed on its own behind him.
"Well, I will go ahead to the uppermost floor and mess with that old witch; the stairs to the underground pond are located right before the end of this main corridor."
"By the way, don’t touch any relics or artifacts if you find here; most of them are corrupted with miasma or are just illusions created by the bones embedded in these walls..."
"Although I wouldn’t really matter much to me if you would die off somewhere in a ditch, at least try not to die from miasmic corruption; that would be too troublesome to deal with..."
Xinran patted Zephyr on the shoulder and spoke,
"If you manage to find water in the underground pool, you can come find me in the uppermost floor; I still haven’t forgotten the promise you made about cooking for me once again..."
"I am looking forward to your cooking, so be quick and return fast."
Xinran flew upwards and, before leaving, said in a teasing voice,
"Well then, I am off. If you want to accompany this beautiful lady a bit longer, make sure you don’t die."
"By the way, if you really find yourself in a pinch, maybe I will graciously come over to rescue you if you would cry out for help and promise to be my servant, hehe~ Bye Bye~"
With her usual cheeky look on her face, Xinran flew off into the darkness without leaving any room for Zephyr to talk.
"That woman, she’s really chaotic. One moment she’s saying she will accompany me and one moment she’s saying she’s going away. How unpredictable..."
"I really can’t seem to get a grasp on what she’s thinking in that evil mind of hers..."
Xinran was beautiful, cute, and had a very charming personality, but Zephyr was not in the right place or mood to consider liking her or even trusting her.
In this world of death and destruction, where horrors beyond human comprehension roamed freely and eldritch man-eating beasts roamed the lands, it was extremely fatal to trust the wrong person.
Others might fall for her beauty and her overly seductive tactics and charms, but Zephyr had ’Perfect Combat Sense’, his heart was firm like a martial artist that had trained both his mind and body to the pinnacle of human combat.
Just like the monks that live in seclusion in mountains and various hidden places that are far away from the pleasures of the modern world and practice restraint and a perfect state of mind,
Zephyr had the same state of existence deeply engrained in his bones right now, and swaying him with petty tricks was impossible.
’Being a servant... no way, I would rather die than become someone’s servant.’
Zephyr completely shrugged off Xinran’s words and started moving forward with newfound determination in his eyes.
His eyesight, which was enhanced by the indestructible body talent, slowly adjusted to the darkness of the gigantic corridor, and his body maintained a state of vigilance automatically.
[Perfect Stealth!]
Using his perfect stealth ability, Zephyr hid his presence, and even the sound of his footsteps and heartbeat was completely eliminated.
The armor he was wearing was also pitch black in color and proved to be helpful when hiding inside the cover of the darkness.
But there was one thing that was bugging Zephyr constantly.
’If even the main entrance corridor is already this dark, how dark the basement would be I wonder.’
*Tak* *tak* *tak* *tak*
’Also there is this weird noise... what even is this sound? It doesn’t seem like footsteps of a monster.’
’It seems more like the sound of a wooden cane hitting the ground as someone walks forwards with it, how weird.’
*OOOOUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!* *OOOOOGHHHH!!!*
’The sound of a pigeon? Birds from my home planet exist in this place? Likely not, this is likely some creature imitating the sound of a pigeon.’
[Rolling_Crocodile: Man I can’t see sh*t! What the f*ck is even going on!! These sounds are so scary!! Please come back, Goddess Xinran! I miss your pleasant voice already! I don’t want to be left alone in this dark place!!]
[Blue_Dinosaur: I must say, when Goddess Xinran was around, I felt a sense of safety for some reason... now that she’s gone... the sense of something unknown jumping out of nowhere and attacking has returned again... ugh...]
[Invicible_bob: Didn’t you guys say earlier that you were going to be the paladins of Goddess Xinran, how come paladins are afraid of mere darkness now?]
[Shining_Lorraine: Indeed @Rolling_Crocodile, immediately resign from the position of the commander of the paladin squadron; let me assume that position; you are clearly not worthy enough to lead us!]
[Rolling_Crocodile: I am not scared, okay! I am only worried about the anchor! It’s so dark here that we can only see a few meters around us! If something attacked, the host would not even be able to dodge!]
[Invincible_bob: Does it even matter if he can’t dodge? I mean, clearly his body is so tough that whatever attacks him will get injured instead! Our Tank God is invincible! Mere darkness can’t do anything to him!!]
