Chapter 109

The entire world narrowed to nothing but a white hot agony and the sickening wet sound of his own blood pouring down his torso. And for just a split second or maybe longer, everything seemed to freeze.

Then all of a sudden, Alex started laughing. It sounded low at first, but then it gradually became louder with each passing seconds.

Blood dripped from the corner of his lips while his shoulders trembled weakly from the laughter, causing even the Chinese man to slightly frown in confusion.

"Have you finally gone insane or what?" The man asked coldly.

But Alex just continued laughing weakly with blood stained teeth. Inside his mind however, only one word kept on echoing repeatedly.

’Damn...’

Another painful cough escaped his mouth.

’Getting impaled right through the chest definitely feels way worse than dying from having your head smashed with a porcelain vase.’

Everywhere around him began to blur with each passing second. Alex would be lying if he said he didn’t feel the way the man’s icky hands wrapped around his heart, but he could literally feel the damn thing. Every pulse and every twitch! It was really an extremely disgusting and excruciating sensation.

But then strangely enough... his thoughts drifted elsewhere. Various memories began flooding his mind in those final moments.

Nyx?

That cold woman probably wouldn’t show much reaction if he died. But maybe... just maybe... she would actually feel sad.

Then Olivia appeared in his mind.

A weak smile appeared on Alex’s bloodied face.

’Yeah... Olivia would most definitely cry.’

Her gentle heart wouldn’t be able to handle losing him after everything.

After that came Sofia, causing his green eyes to dim slightly.

’Yeah... Now that I think about it... I think one of the things I regret the most is not reaching out more after that heated day in the garden.’

Then finally... Celine.

Alex almost had the urge to laugh again.

That woman would literally be the happiest woman in the world. He knew for a fact that she would most likely be happy that he was finally gone.

He sighed bitterly as the rainwater washed blood down his face. In these final seconds of life, now that he thought of it, it was honestly kind of funny, how at the moment of death, that’s when a person would suddenly have like a thousand things they wanted to say.

Things like their regrets, their thoughts and finally their feelings. But sadly, there was never really enough time...

Alex’s pupils suddenly contracted violently.

His heartbeat accelerated fastly.

The Chinese man began frowning after noticing the sudden strange look in Alex’s eyes, and the way his previously weak heart began beating faster and faster around his palm.

But Alex ignored him completely. Inside his mind, he roared desperately.

The Chinese man narrowed his eyes slightly. The brat who had just been laughing a second ago, now looked strangely calm all of a sudden. Could it be that he was making peace with himself?

The man decided to slowly lean closer toward Alex’s ear.. while beginning to tighten his fingers around Alex’s heart as rainwater dripped from his hair.

Alex made sure to remain silent despite the pain. He wanted to play the part of a man who had finally accepted his fate, to perfection.

The Chinese man smiled faintly.

"Since you’ve finally decided to accept your fate, kid. I’ll make this quick for you... or maybe not.’

"But rest assured.. Young Master Renzo will take very good care of Nyx on your behalf."

The moment those words entered Alex’s ears, something inside him snapped, causing an icy killing intent to erupt inside his pupils. He would make sure to kill this man no matter the cost.

The Chinese man began crushing his heart slowly, enjoying the sight of the vein at Alex’s forehead bulge violently.

As soon as the excruciating long countdown that felt like forever in Alex’s eyes reached zero, the world around him began to distort heavily.

The Chinese man’s face stretched unnaturally. Rain froze mid air, looking beautiful. And sound itself ceased to exist.

Alex watched as the Chinese man attempted pulling his heart out of his chest, but luckily, everything and every single one around him dissolved into streaks of light and shadow, before the world finally collapsed.

Then he suddenly found himself floating inside the familiar vast vacuum like space filled with countless fragmented images from the past one minute.

Time itself distorted around him endlessly while fragments of reality replayed in reverse. Everything felt unreal!

Suddenly, he felt the once more overly familiar overwhelming suction force, that felt like his entire body was being forcefully dragged through a straw.

After that, the strange void-like sensation vanished like it had never existed in the first place. And reality snapped into place in its wake.

Alex found himself in the air, with both of his hands raised high above the Chinese man, ready to smash the damn bastard down to the earth just like earlier.

But this time, Alex’s eyes were cold and filled with thick murderous intent. No! He wasn’t going to repeat the same mistake twice, this time around.

So instead of bringing his clasped hands down, Alex twisted mid-air and pointed his right palm directly at the Chinese man. Black frost began coating his finger tips like some sort of glove.

"Die," Alex whispered coldly.

Suddenly, three Deathfrost Blooms shot toward the man’s skull at a terrifying speed, followed immediately by another three aimed precisely at his heart and core.

The compressed black ice shards left faint trails of absolute zero temperature in the rain, freezing any water droplets around it.

The Chinese man’s eyes widened in shock, but it was already far too late to do anything. The first three shards slammed into his head with devastating force, piercing right through his skull and brain matter, before exiting, leaving a wide gaping hole.

The next three tore straight into his chest, tearing through his heart, and shattering his core, before exploding outward in a spray of frozen blood and shattered essence.

The man’s body convulsed once in the air, then went limp. His cold corpse crashed heavily onto the street below with a sickening thud. Rain continued to pour over the dead man, washing away the trail of blood on the ground.

Alex landed gracefully a few meters away, with a heavy breath. His legs trembled a bit from exhaustion, but he managed to stay standing.

"...Holy shit."

That was a close one.

For several seconds, Alex simply stood there breathing heavily while trying to calm his wildly beating heart.

Then suddenly.

BOOOM!!

A thick bolt of blue lightning exploded across the battlefield nearby. Alex turned his head there. And lo and behold, Jade figure appeared behind the thin man with her hands raised for an unexpected attack.

Before the man could even fully react, a concentrated lightning imbued with almost all of her primordial essence slammed directly into his back.

The thin man screamed painfully before twitching violently like a skinned frog, and collapsed unconscious onto the wet ground with smoke rising from his body.

Jade landed afterward while breathing heavily. It was clear that that last attack had really drained most of her primordial essence reserves.

Alex turned his head and instinctively searched for the sturdy man. But the moment his eyes landed on his figure, they froze.

The sturdy man had already entered inside the grey sedan and was driving away at full speed. Apparently, the instant he witnessed Alex killing the Chinese man mid-air, the bastard immediately chose to run away. He still has a life to live.

Alex stared blankly at the disappearing car before sighing. The man really had some common sense, unlike some people who would still choose to attack, even after most of their teammates had died.

He looked at the faint outline of the car once more before deciding to walk toward Jade. The car was moving faster than what speed he could use currently, besides he was too damn exhausted to even chase anyway.

Just as he was some few steps away from Jade.

[YOU STUPID IDIOTTTT!!!]

A small bluish blur suddenly smashed directly into his face, causing Alex to stagger backward a bit.

Then he realized that the system, in her adorable form, had latched herself onto his face while crying loudly.

[You idiot! Idiot! Idiot! Don’t you ever die on me again!]

Tears and snot covered her tiny face while she squeezed him tightly. Alex blinked slightly. For a moment.. he actually felt touched.

Then the chibi suddenly sniffed loudly before adding.

[After all, if you die then who’s going to keep paying the TV subscription bills?!]

Alex’s face darkened almost instantly.

"... That’s your reason?"

The chibi immediately looked away guiltily.

[... Maybe mostly]

Alex nearly coughed blood again from annoyance this time. And wanted to reprimand her, but then he realized from her shaking shoulders that she was just using that excuse to cover up her feelings.

Meanwhile nearby, Jade just stared silently at him after catching her breath. Her blue eyes remained as cold and indifferent as always. But if you looked closer, there was something resembling disbelief.

Rain water slid down her dark brown hair while she continued to look directly at Alex.

"Even against a Vanguard Realm expert with a two times physical enhancement ability..." She muttered softly to herself, believing that he couldn’t hear her. "He still managed to defeat him through pure strength alone.."

Alex heard every word clearly, but he simply chose to pretend as if he hadn’t. Some secrets were better left hidden. Especially anything about his system. So instead he merely waved his hand tiredly and said.

"If you’re done staring at me like a star struck teenage girl seeing her idol, come on. Let’s leave here before the cops show up... Or before some very troublesome people from the government arrive."

The moment those words left his mouth, a calm female voice suddenly echoed through the rainstorm behind him.

"I’m afraid it’s already too late for that."
