Chapter 116

Alex stared at the panel floating before him with satisfaction in his eyes.

A plus seven increase to all his physical stats might not seem like much against Ascendant Realm experts for now, but it at least made him more stronger in terms of physical prowess against other Vanguard Realm Awakened, which was something to at the very least be happy about.

Still, after the momentary excitement faded, Alex eventually let out a small sigh of regret while glancing toward Nyx who was calmly sipping orange juice across from him.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t exactly the best place to test his newly acquired ability.

If he activated Eyes Of Chronos right now, his eyes would definitely transform into the same strange light purple eyes with faint clock design appearance that Doris always had whenever she used her ability.

There was no way in hell that someone as observant as Nyx wouldn’t notice the change in his eyes.

And the last thing he needed right now was another complicated explanation of why his eyes were exactly like Doris’s own whenever she activated her ability.

The chibi floated beside him and whispered mischievously.

[You know, you can always go activate it secretly in the bathroom]

Alex ignored her.... Meanwhile, Nyx slowly lowered the business magazine in her hand before narrowing her beautiful amber eyes slightly at him.

"Why have you been looking at me with that weird look in your eyes earlier?"

Alex blinked once before quickly recovering.

"Oh, it’s nothing really," he replied casually while offering a shrug. "I was just wondering why you didn’t bring Doris or one of your other Awakened subordinates on this trip. It just feels like something you wouldn’t do."

Nyx placed the magazine down elegantly onto the small table beside her before crossing her long legs slowly.

"The answer is simple. The highest level Awakened under my faction are only Vanguard Realm experts. And since my boyfriend also happens to now be a Vanguard Realm Awakened..." a faint amused curve appeared on her lips, "... there was honestly no need to bring extra people."

Alex coughed lightly after hearing her say boyfriend so naturally with a calm face. Nyx however continued calmly.

"Besides, one of the main purposes of bringing you on this trip was partly to move you away from the city for a few days. Since I am fully certain that one of your attackers managed to escape, because only the corpse of the Chinese man and the injured thin man was found in the scene. The escaped man must have already told the Kade family about what transpired. So by now, they should have already started looking for you all over the city."

"And what is the other reason?"

Nyx took another sip from her juice before continuing.

"The other reason is that I needed my powerful boyfriend besides me to discourage some annoying business partners I’m meeting who would most likely get some impure intentions the moment they see me in person."

Alex nodded in agreement, appreciating the logic in her strategy. After all, it was almost impossible for someone to see a person like Nyx and not be moved. But still, a small furrow formed between his brows as curiosity got the better of him.

"That makes sense, but now that I think of it, how exactly did you know I was now in the Vanguard Realm? The footage from the incident didn’t really show much."

Nyx’s lips curved into a faint, knowing smile.

"I guessed initially."

Alex blinked.

"You guessed?"

"Mm."

She placed the glass of juice down softly.

"When I first watched the footage after Clinton was able to retrieve the early scenes before it got destroyed, one thing immediately felt really strange."

"You confidently told Jade not to come outside despite knowing that there were three Awakeneds present. At first I thought you were simply trying to act brave. But then I remembered that Jade was also an Awakened, even if she tried to hide it, so she wouldn’t just stand there like a vase and watch you handle the entire thing."

Nyx folded her arms beneath her ample chest.

"So I began analyzing the entire situation mentally. There were three hostile Awakeneds present. One Vanguard Realm expert and two Early Realm experts."

She raised one finger elegantly.

"That meant one person had to have been facing the Chinese man and an Early Realm Awakened, while the other faced the remaining Early Realm Awakened, or perhaps one against the Chinese man and the other against the two men."

"But after running through some quick mental scenarios, I formed an interesting hypothesis: what if Alex had broken through and was the one facing two Awakeneds?"

She paused for a moment, letting her words settle, before continuing.

"It was then later confirmed when I arrived at the police station and overheard an officer telling his fellow cop that one of the men was severely burnt from lightning, which clearly pointed to Jade. While the other guy, a Chinese man, was killed with an ice type of attack."

"And as far as I know, Jade doesn’t have an ice attack. Her abilities are only lightning and teleportation. Then I remembered something where my spy described how you handled the Black Mambas gang. He said you occasionally used some kind of ice attack that moved faster than a bullet to kill most people that day. It wasn’t exactly hard to piece two and two together, and know that you were the one who killed the Chinese man."

"That alone confirmed my guess that you had reached Vanguard Realm. Then last night, after the rain stopped, I had one of my people investigate, just to be sure. This morning, they brought back news from some people present, about how a tall handsome man with black hair and green eyes was fighting both an Asian man and another opponent who could bring out green barriers, at the same time."

At this point Alex wasn’t surprised by Nyx’s level of intelligence. The damn woman had an IQ level the size of Texas, that was both scary and fascinating at the same time.

Nyx then turned silent for a moment before suddenly narrowing her eyes slightly.

"You know..."

"Hm?"

"I think I forgot to ask you something back then when you visited BluePeak to put that man Andre into a decent position."

Alex immediately felt danger from the way her voice suddenly turned noticeably colder.

"So you were hiding another ability from me this entire time? You not only possess healing abilities, but also ice attacks as well."

For a brief moment, Alex rubbed the back of his neck, while considering several possible explanations inside his mind. At the end he just let out a sigh and said.

"The reason I didn’t tell you about my other ability is that I didn’t exactly want people knowing I was a double ability Awakened."

Nyx stared at him silently, while Alex continued calmly.

"Having just one ability like healing was already enough to attract attention. Now if people knew that I had more than one ability, I’m sure you should know what will happen with that big brain of yours. So I figured it was safer to keep some cards hidden until necessary."

That wasn’t entirely false either, considering that he had an even special skill called infinite skill absorption. So the less people knew about it or the fact he had a system, the safer he would remain.

Nyx seemed to ponder over his explanation briefly before eventually nodding her head.

"Fair enough."

Thankfully, she didn’t press further. Alex inwardly relaxed slightly before deciding to quickly steer the conversation elsewhere.

"So..." He leaned back casually. "How’s the app coming along so far?’

The moment the topic shifted toward business, Nyx’s expression softened noticeably.

"It’s progressing very well. Thanks to the detailed explanation and idea you provided, the programmers and developers managed to move much faster than originally expected."

A small trace of admiration flashed through her beautiful eyes.

"Honestly, most of what you suggested were surprisingly advanced. Now we have successfully entered the testing phase. And so far, everything seems to be running smoothly with no bugs or any issue."

A faint smile finally appeared on her usually cold face.

"All the interfaces are stable. And everything else is performing beyond expectations."

Alex nodded slowly.

"That’s good."

Nyx picked up her magazine again before adding calmly.

"If nothing unexpected happens, we should be able to officially launch sometime next week. And personally speaking I think that the app will become a massive hit."

"All the testers became addicted to using it within just two days."

"Then that’s definitely a good sign."

"It is. Since the social media market is currently on the rise. If we can manage to establish ourselves with your app... We could end up becoming a big name in the industry."

After saying that she concentrated back on her business magazine. Alex almost couldn’t contain the joy hidden inside his heart. The app was one of the steps of making BluePeak a top dog in the country. But he soon calmed down afterwards.

The most important thing now was making sure that the app patent wouldn’t leak to one of their competitors. He trusted that a smart woman like Nyx should have put enough security measures to make sure nothing like that ever happens.

Then his mind quickly drifted to something. Earlier the way Nyx was talking about Jade made it seem like she knew her very well. He was curious to what their relationship might be and was just about ready to ask Nyx about it.

But then he stopped. Knowing someone like Nyx, she would most likely not disclose anything. So he decided to leave it be for now.
