"Ouch~" Jane Sampson responded swiftly, but this bit of pain was nothing compared to the fact that James Black had returned.

She only covered it for three seconds before quickly letting go, grabbing James Black’s arm with both hands, joyfully, as she was about to leap onto James Black.

James Black hurriedly took two steps back, and Jane Sampson fell back onto the bed.

"Why did you dodge?" Jane Sampson lay on the bed, looking at James Black fiercely yet very aggrieved, "Aren’t you letting me hug you anymore?"

"Caught in the rain, I’m all wet." James Black curled his lips into a gentle smile, "You go on sleeping, I’ll go take a shower."

Jane Sampson watched James Black walk into the bathroom, muttering softly to herself, "How could I possibly fall asleep~"

From the bathroom came the sound of running water, and Jane Sampson barefooted, snuck to the doorway like a little thief, pressing her ear against the door to listen for a while, then happily bouncing back to the bed like a little imp, grabbing James Black’s pillow and jumping on the bed with joy.

"James Black is back! James Black is back!" Jane Sampson giggled and laughed wildly, trying to keep her voice down.

This joy was no less than the excitement she felt when she discovered that the Carter Family parents were her biological dad and mom back then.

She hadn’t expected James Black to return so quickly, and James Black, at midnight, suddenly appeared in front of her, how could Jane Sampson not be excited?

Only when she heard the bathroom water stop did Jane Sampson halt her celebration, standing on the bed with James Black’s pillow, turning her head toward the bathroom.

The door clicked open, and James Black walked out, wearing a bathrobe, towel drying his hair.

"Why are you standing so high?" James Black, voice filled with laughter, walked over to Jane Sampson, then stood at the bed’s edge, spreading his arms, "You can do what you wanted to do just now."

Jane Sampson promptly tossed aside the pillow in her arms, leaping into James Black’s embrace.

She wasn’t worried in the slightest that James Black wouldn’t catch her.

In a blink, she fell steadily into James Black’s arms.

"It’s raining so hard outside, why didn’t you think to use an umbrella before coming back?" Jane Sampson touched James Black’s stubbly face, "The weather in Capital Province has cooled down now, aren’t you afraid of catching a cold."

They hadn’t seen each other for quite some time, not only had James Black’s hair grown, but his beard had too.

James Black hadn’t shaved for a long time, so now, because of the beard, he looked more roguishly charming and a bit sensually unkempt than his usual self. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Jane Sampson rubbed her face against James Black’s chin, the beard tickling her, yet she found it amusing, like discovering a new toy, even touching it with her palm.

James Black had always been a principled person since childhood, during the age when everyone loved to show off, even boys kept bangs and styled their hair.

But not James Black.

James Black had the same hairstyle since childhood.

Buzz cut.

It had never changed from childhood to adulthood.

Whenever it grew a little, James would quickly have it cut back to Elder Black’s standard hairstyle.

This seemed to be one of the rules of James Black’s life, just like he would never appear slovenly in front of others, let alone with an unshaved beard.

"You look good like this too!" Jane Sampson didn’t hold back her compliments for James Black, "Very charming!"

James Black chuckled gently, lowering his head to kiss Jane Sampson’s lips, "I’ll get it cut tomorrow."
