Chapter 1051: Jin Taejin’s New Student - Black’s Worries!
On two makeshift wooden chairs, Black and Jin Taejin sat side by side, drinking tea.
Between the chairs, on a small wooden log, was a basket filled with fresh berries.
Black popped a few of them in his mouth before taking another sip, his eyes fixed forward at the large clearing by the hut.
Jin Taejin was also looking in the same direction, his focus even more on the sight.
On the clear ground, practicing basic martial arts, was a woman, donning loose, white Taekwondo garments. Her black hair was tied in a bun. She was covered in so much sweat that it darkened the fabric, making it heavier. From time to time, her mouth kept twitching as if she wanted to curse but was holding herself back.
Jin Taejin frowned.
He picked a pebble and flicked it at the woman.
It went for her ankle just as she was about to kick, the same twisted expression appearing on her face.
The moment the pebble struck her, it flipped her upside down.
A painful grunt escaped her throat as she landed on the ground face-first.
With a start, she sat up and grabbed her foot, where a bruise had appeared, growing bluer by the second.
Such a simple attack should have never hurt her.
Not because she was infallible against surprise attacks, but because she was Spawn — now a Top-level 8th Floor Contestant. Not only did she have the Inheritance of Spawn, but she also had the legacy of the Kekkei Genkai Byakugan, which had come with her Standalone Title of The Last Heiress.
A mere pebble made her HP fall by over half, restricted her HP Regeneration Rate, and made her feel pain...
Her?! Who might even surpass many 4th Set Contestants in sheer regenerative abilities?!
Selena Hao turned her head, grinding her teeth, and looked at Jin Taejin.
"Yeah?" the old man hummed, smiling smugly. "Wanna kill me? Well... you wouldn’t be the first, young lady. Shall we have a go and see how that turns out for you?"
Selena stared into Jin Taejin’s eyes, black tendrils sprouting from all around her body, with a hint of a red cloak manifesting on her back. Her ordinary, humane pupils glowed green before they became pure white, thick black veins protruding on her face, running toward her eyes.
The smile on Jin Taejin’s face widened.
Then, as soon as the transformation had begun, it ended.
Selena let out a breath, looked at her bruised ankle, and shook her head.
She stood up and resumed her training, hoping the minor injury would heal over time... somehow.
Jin Taejin slipped back into his chair, disappointed.
Black smiled as he took another sip of the tea.
He threw a few more berries into his mouth and pointed his chin toward Selena. "That’s not Renewal Taekwondo."
Jin Taejin nodded. "When I took her around the country," he said, "I found that Re Taekwondo didn’t suit her. She already has good upper body control with her Gentle Fist Martial Arts. I can barely recall a hand-based Martial Art that can surpass Gentle Fist. Well... not if she were to master it completely. There’s still incredible room for improvement. Anyway, her lower body control needed work. Good amount of work. So we couldn’t skip Re Taekwondo even if it didn’t suit her."
Black nodded. "I can see this Martial Arts has hints of Re Taekwondo," he admitted. "But only a few hints, cherry-picked."
Jin Taejin smirked. "Because it was cherry-picked," he said proudly. "There was this man in my squad, Park Il-Tae. Good man. Better soldier. He was a master of Practical Taekkyeon. It’s a Martial Art that emphasizes whole-body techniques with fully integrated armwork.
"Park Il-Tae, that bastard, combined Practical Taekkyeon with Re Taekwondo to reinforce the weaknesses and strengthen it... without my permission! Can you imagine?!"
Black’s lips twitched. As Jin Taejin’s student, he knew exactly how stubborn the old man was, being the sole creator of the Renewal Taekwondo.
Jin Taejin let out a breath, shaking his head.
He finished the tea and slammed the cup onto the chair’s arm, a reminiscing expression bringing a smile to his face.
"Ssamsu Taekkyeon," Jin Taejin said. "That’s the Martial Art Park Il-Tae created. He died on the battlefield, you know. I passed the Martial Arts to his grandson... I shouldn’t have shared it with anyone else, but let this be an exception. It’s not like she’s a part of this world anyway."
Black kept quiet. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
He hadn’t mentioned anything about being a Contestant.
But, seeing the abilities he and Spawn had shown, Jin Taejin must have guessed that their origin didn’t lie in the same world as his.
That was alright, too.
Of all the White Serpent Pirates, Black was worried about Spawn the most.
She had already succumbed to her emotional trauma one time, when Herpo the Foul had resurrected the memories she kept buried in her mindscape. If it hadn’t been for Meg and others being there, and the Echoes of Ad Infinitum instantly letting her know it was an illusion, she could have truly lost her life then.
Ad Infinitum’s Echoes weren’t bulletproof against mind-based abilities, as was clearly seen from the case of Tina’s Resurreccion.
What if one day she had to rely on herself to tell illusions from reality?
As if that wasn’t enough, the threat of Temple of Amon-Gorloth was even higher in Spawn’s case than it was in Moraine’s.
Blue Stark had pissed off only a few Claws of The Beast.
The Deacon had acted with the Temple’s permission, but had also gone beyond that, sacrificing most of his powers to avoid Timeline Backlash. It became even clearer from the fact that the Temple hadn’t come for his help, even when he was about to die. Similarly, the Temple might not seek Moraine to avenge his death, either.
Spawn...
Black wouldn’t be surprised if the Temple of Amon-Gorloth slammed her with its full wrath, hoping to crush her before she became an even bigger issue.
Even he, combined with Kai, wouldn’t be able to survive against something like that.
And so, for now, it was better if Spawn remained here, in the God of High School Bubble...
... where even men could contend against Gods and Demons, and come out victorious!
