Chapter 714: The King Is Dead; Long Live The King!

Tamesis showed up that morning with several of her followers and began working on the gate. The entire mountain and the fortress along with all of the gates had originally been built by Tamesis’ people, hundred of thousands of years ago. When Hera and her husband came here with their followers, they had built over the remains of the fallen gates with their own style of architecture as what had been there had fallen apart over time. As for which one was superior, that didn’t matter at this point since it would be too much work to try to rebuild the old gates. All Tamesis could do was to upgrade the gate so that it would be fully integrated into the fortress’ circuit.

Stockpiles of weapons were also being delivered, items forged with the corpses of god beasts worked into them. As their old armor had been hastily prepared and put together, this new armor was stronger by many times and could even save the average person from a gods attack. When they tried to present the armor to Laz though, Laz had to turn it down.

"There is some... reasons why I can’t wear it," Laz could only say, even while the goddesses looked at him like he was crazy.

"Why not?" Athena said, wondering why Laz wouldn’t wear the armor to protect himself.

Hera had a hint in her mind, but she didn’t want to ruin the fun as Laz’ body was being jerked around while the girls tried to tie him down to get him to try it on.

"Why exactly does it look like the boy is fighting his own body?" Pooja asked, seeing Hera smiling to herself while watching on.

"You remember the time we met that one Asura general on the plains of the Crystal Kingdom?"

"Yeah. I remember hearing the that the residents of the planet were all bull like creatures and someone wanted to know if they really wore armored tubes to protect their massive manhood, so she dragged me there only to see their king engaged in an epic battle with that Asura general."

"Don’t blame me for that. It was Dana who really wanted to know, she was just to shy to say it."

"Ha. She was a closet pervert if ever there was one. I think she ended up hooking up with one of those Bullmen too while we were there."

"Seriously? Even after knowing that everything they were saying about them was true? That they used to tattoo and armor up their junk as a form of pride?

"Whatever. Anyway, what about it?"

"Well, remember that the general and the king were fighting bare except for their underclothing? After the fight, the general ended up putting on that weird bracelet and his body was like violently jerked around for a bit?"

"Now that you say that, yeah. So what of it?"

"I only found out later that that was because of the invisible armor the Asura wear. Most of the time it can’t be seen by the naked eye. but it’s there all the same."

"Wait? You’re saying that boy has a one of those sets of Asura armor? How the hell did he get one of those? Only the upper echelon of the Asura had a set of those towards the end."

"Yes. But towards the start of the war, the armor used to be massed produced. It was only later when everything broke apart that they could no longer produce it. Anyway, let’s skip the details but we had some of it in our private storage. Except it didn’t look anything like Asura armor at the time since my husband had tried to wear it and it turned into some sort of feathered monstrosity that actually tried to kill him."

"You had a set of it? And it what?" Pooja asked, her jaw dropping with this news she had no clue about.

Hera wasn’t going to explain again. Instead, she left he long time friend to digest the news herself as Laz had finally broken free from the goddesses surrounding him and was now being chased by them.

As for Tamesis, she and her people were laying additional runes on the gate when a sudden flash lit up the world from outside the gate, grabbing everyone’s attention which then turned to Tamesis.

"That wasn’t me..." She said as a massive wave of energy swept out over the pass, startling Hera, Pooja and Laz. Laz flew into the air and cast his heaven’s gaze outward, seeing the cause of the light. A creature clad in shadows was drawing in massive amounts of energy from everywhere into it’s body, as the shadows covering it broke away like a stone skin.

It was the shadow dragon and as the skin broke away, swirling darkness seemed to engulf it, like a black hole where nothing could survive as it’s powers raged. In the sky, a mournful wail seemed to echo across the lands like a ghostly lament. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

’The death of the Emperor," Hera said, her words sparking fear amongst the solders and her daughters. While the energy in the surroundings was all being sucked in, Laz suddenly felt a pull to his right. Turning towards it, he noticed a blurred figured hovering there, his skin sunken and his body frail.

"The once mighty and untouchable emperor," Laz said, his voice dripping with distain.

"I don’t expect you to mourn for me," he replied, his voice still a strong as ever.

"That’s good. Otherwise I would think you’ve gone mad."

"But I need a favor all the same."

"Fuck off... you majesty."

"I despise you as well. But I owed your race for a long time and moving on now... I have no way to ever pay back that debt. Perhaps only after I became a soul did I discover how much things such as debt weigh on a man."

"Get to the point."

"The beast will use all of the energy I built up in my body to break through the shackles of this world and become an ancient god along with taking control of this small worlds karma, something I did over my long years of residing here."

Laz didn’t respond as he didn’t know what to say. He knew the concept or at least had a vague hint of it. But he also knew that such a thing would be impossible even after a million years for someone like the Emperor.

"Don’t look at me like I’m senile. Had this been a full planet connected to the outside world, then yes, it would be impossible. But this place was nothing more than a broken shard with a narrow but complete set of laws. As such, it may have taken ten thousand years, but I did it. And now that beast will soon consume all of it."

"Then what the hell do you want me to do about it? From the sounds of it, your stupidity is going to get me and everyone else killed."

"HAD YOU NOT LET THE BEAST IN HERE.... No.... no.... It doesn’t matter anymore anyway. We were just hiding away, passing time in this bubble while things outside moved. Had I not been so intent to keep my little pond to myself, maybe I would have had the chance to be something more out in the world as it is. Here. Take this. With this, you will inherit my position as the next ruler of the Empire and therefore, the laws of the world will follow your lead. Perhaps the only intelligent decision I made was linking the Empire’s crown to the karma instead of my own. A legacy for when I finally grew tired of life or decided it was worth it to go outside again. But that time never came or it passed by without my knowing of it. Either way, this is yours now. It’s time for my passing. But I refuse to allow that bastard to take everything from me... well... everything you haven’t already taken," the fading soul said as it handed over an ornate crown, one that still remain shimmering and shinning despite the whisps of energy being drained off by the beast.

Laz reached out his hands and without a second though, placed it upon his head. As the blood inside of him ignited, the energy of the world outside came to a sudden stop, causing everyone to feel shocked. Laz’s asura bloodline sprang to life as his body took on it’s Asura form. The energy of the world, noticing this change, suddenly reversed course and flooded towards Laz as it was all drawn in quickly. A golden glow even surrounded Laz as the laws of the world made contact and then absorbed into him, turning his aura gold as bright lights broke out from the cloud covered sky above.

Feeling the shift, even Kat got in on the events and transformed into a golden colored armor with a long red cape suddenly flowing from behind, lifted on a raging wind.

"NO. NOOOOOO" Came the voice of the shadow dragon as the remaining energy of the world was drawn into Laz before dissipating. Despite that, his royal nature, many times stronger than the beasts suddenly broke through the sky as his light suddenly shown on all things, illuminating the tiny dimension.

In that moment, an Asura had become a ruler and the world couldn’t help but bow to it!
