Children of a Lesser God
Chapter 744: Rumblings From Afar
Saanvi had no trouble sneaking over to the sick bay and laying back to sleep in there. With the strength of her bloodline and the incredible boost in power she had experienced, no one except for Laz would have even seen her unless they somehow managed to look right at her. If her bloodline had been less refined or more polluted, her sudden gain in power would have more likely led to her going insane. But due to the care the Kali had taken in passing it down, perhaps expecting that she would fall one day, Saanvi had no trouble adapting to to. Even more impressive was how well she could already utilize the power she had gain despite having known nothing about it the day before.
When Dr. Anton walked in, he was shocked to say the least since his and Sven’s room was right next door and they hadn’t heard a peep all night.
"Feeling better?" Dr. Anton asked, looking at her with a mix of both concern and amusement. Sven had told the doctor what he had noticed the night before, that Laz might really be responsible for her missing or at least had an idea about where she was. So seeing her here exactly as the doctor had said she would be was quite a shock to him since he had known she wasn’t.
"Much better. Thank you for your care doctor," Saanvi said with a smile that hit the doctor like a ton of bricks. The doctor was obviously not interested in women in that way, but the smile was enough to shake even him. There was both a power of self and a hidden seduction within it, one that Saanvi wasn’t aware of as she became one with her power. While Kali wasn’t a goddess associated with things like seduction or lust, her inclination towards the raw, untamed power of nature gave her a natural seductive air as a female. It also gave her a natural power of self that would make the heart of another race, giving them the impression of incitement even while it was nothing more than a slight primal threat.
As Saanvi left the med bay, Sven walked in and saw Dr. Anton watching Saanvi walk away.
"Something on your mind?" Sven asked.
"I might be going straight...." Dr. Anton said, still watching her walk away.
Sven just blinked a few times before leaning over and whispering in his ear something that made the slight man go beat red and look up at the big man with wide eyes.
Sven laughed and said,
"Right. Straight as a hula hoop," before walking away.
Saanvi was stopped in the hallway by Shelly who just so happened to be walking the way she was coming.
"You ok luv?" She asked, suddenly hit by a strange feeling that made her heart race.
"Fine. Just couldn’t sleep and was having some pains. I feel better now though. Thanks for your concern," Saanvi said with a smile that seemed to linger a moment too long. Saanvi then kept walking back to her room as Shelly watched her walk out of sight.
"The fuck was that? Better question, the fuck is wrong with me? Why the hell did that little lass look so... Nope. No. Did that back in college and knew it wasn’t for me. Back to work," Shelly said before going back on her way.
In her room, Saanvi decided she needed another shower and wanted to change her clothes. After cleaning herself off from the activities of the night, she changed and went to breakfast. When she arrived, Laz was the only one not there as she grabbed some food from the waiting Sven who had made them quite the meal and sat down across from Jun.
Jun had almost gagged on her biscuit as she saw Saanvi while the captain, seated right next to Jun, started choking as though something had gone down the wrong pipe when he had tried swallowing.
Sven then took his food and sat down next to the doctor.
"Something is different about her," Sven admitted quietly when he grabbed his boyfriends attention.
"So it’s not just me?"
"Oh no. It’s not. But what I’m sensing from her is a bit different and hard to describe. Makes your heart race and your knees feel weak, right?" Sven questioned.
"Yes..?"
"Does something other than attraction give you that same feeling?" Sven then asked him with a smile.
"Uh... yes, actually. Fear would have a similar effect, wouldn’t it?"
"So how do you tell the difference between the two?" Sven then asked him.
"Why would I be afraid of someone I’ve known for a while and can consider a friend?"
"And that’s why you suddenly questioned your attraction to her. But that... wasn’t what you felt."
"How are you so smart when you don’t even have a doctorate?"
"Because doctors are idiots, just like you. Cute... but foolish," Sven said with another laugh before continuing.
"The problem is how this is going to affect the others, especially him. I really want to know what happened though. Even if she did bang the kid, that’s no reason for a person’s whole persona to shift like this, no matter how magical the dicking was..."
"Can you please not be such a brute while we are eating breakfast?" Doctor Anton said with frown while looking up at his partner.
"So only be a brute when we are in bed at night? Got it," Sven said with a laugh before turning to his own food.
"Well... yes. When it’s just the two of us," the doctor said in a quiet voice with a smile. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"Uh. Saanvi. Glad to see you’re alright," Jun said, collecting herself first.
"Thanks Jun. Just a bit of a bug and going to hard in the gym. I’m feeling better than fine now," Saanvi said with a smile that made Jun swallow hard.
Shelly glanced at Saanvi and then at Jun who seemed to be lost while staring at Saanvi’s face, as though she wanted to to reach out and touch it, a thought which excited Shelly as well before she shook her head to clear it and then pinched her own thigh, waking herself up from her own thoughts.
"You know the captain was worried that the boy did something to you?" Shelly asked, bringing up the captain in an effort to get the man to stop staring at Saanvi while not blinking.
"Uh... Oh. Yes. I just didn’t know what had happened and if it involved the newcomer since he just arrived here," the man said with a bit of hesitation as he tried to move closer to Saanvi for some reason, pushing against Jun in the process.
"Hmm..." Saanvi said, not really responding to either of them but instead pursing her lips together as though thinking of a response.
This little gesture, while not it’s intent, suddenly caused a panic in the captain’s heart, as though not responding immediately was somehow an admission of some sort.
"Nope. Didn’t see him since the workout that day," Saanvi said with a smile that struck all of them deep and gave them a slight chill, like she had just run a finger down their chests one at a time.
"Well... where is he?" Shelly asked, coming to grips with herself first.
"Haven’t seen him this morning. Perhaps he is sleeping in considering he got woken up by a certain someone," Sven said, giving a raised eyebrow to the captain.
"If he’s not here in time for breakfast..."
"Then I’ll save him a plate. I’m fairly certain that your ruleset for him didn’t include him having to be present for all meals with us. It’s not like he actually has a job to do around here that would force him to get out of bed in the morning. Perhaps you should find him some work to keep himself busy?" Sven suggested, before adding,
"Something that’s not a janitor, either. We are expected to clean up after ourselves here," Sven added on, knowing that the captain would do something like that just to make Laz’s life difficult.
"He’s not exactly a specialist in a field of study," the captain shot back at the man who was both a cook and a repair man for the base.
"Neither are you if memory serves me right," Sven countered.
Before the captain could respond, there was a rumbling that began shaking the entire base.
"WHAT THE HELL?" The captain yelled before running for the control room, followed after by Jun as soon as the rumbling ceased.
Laz was actually outside of the base at this point, standing on the roof as the storm blew overhead, snow and ice carried by the gale force winds.
Laz remained untouched by any of it as he stared off into the distance.
He knew that Saanvi’s awakening might alert them, but this was happening quicker than he had anticipated considering how deeply asleep those beings were.
"All of them are sleeping gods, some of them peak level. But the most dangerous one... Is an ancient god really asleep out there?" Laz said to himself as he restrained his desire to spread his spiritual sense out to check them. Doing so would alert them to his presence and hasten their awakening, or so he figured. Laz had no choice but to just keep his senses to himself and feel for the strength of the beasts and this was the feeling he got.
"We won’t make it until the spring it seems..." Laz said to himself before taking a deep breath and vanishing back inside the base.
