Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off
Chapter 582: Uncle Ye’s Long-Lost Granddaughter
The old healer was still grumbling under his breath while following everyone inside the wooden house. His medicine bag was hanging crookedly on his shoulder while he muttered all kinds of complaints about young people not respecting old men anymore.
But just as he stepped inside the room and was about to arrogantly choose the softest seat for himself, his entire body suddenly froze.
His old eyes widened instantly. The next second, his beard almost trembled.
"Wang Mulan?!" he shouted loudly in disbelief.
The entire room instantly turned silent.
Even Su Qinglan, who had just entered behind him, raised her brows slightly in surprise as she looked at her mother.
The old healer pointed toward Wang Mulan with shaking fingers, as if he had just seen a ghost.
"You girl, what are you doing here?" he exclaimed loudly. "And why didn’t anyone tell this old man beforehand?!"
Wang Mulan could not help but smile warmly after seeing him. The usually noble and graceful high priestess suddenly revealed a much softer expression.
"Uncle Ye," she called gently, "naturally I came to meet my daughter."
The old healer was stunned.
"Daughter?" he repeated blankly. Then he immediately looked around the room.
"Where is Lan Yue?" he asked quickly. "Didn’t you say your daughter? Where is she? Why can’t I see her?"
The moment his words fell, Wang Mulan immediately burst into laughter. Even Su Mingxuan beside her smiled helplessly. Then Wang Mulan slowly pointed behind the old healer.
"Uncle Ye," she said with amusement, "my daughter is standing right behind you."
The old healer instantly turned around so fast that his beard almost slapped his own face. Then his eyes landed directly on Su Qinglan. For a few seconds, the old man completely froze.
His eyes slowly widened bigger and bigger as he looked at Su Qinglan, then at Wang Mulan, then back at Su Qinglan again.
Back and forth.
Back and forth.
Finally, he suddenly clutched his chest dramatically.
"You child!" he shouted at Wang Mulan angrily. "Are you trying to scare your uncle Ye to death?!"
Everyone almost jumped from his loud voice.
"You already have such a big daughter, and you hid her from me all this time?!" he continued accusingly while pointing at Wang Mulan. "Have your wings become hard now? You don’t even remember this old man anymore!"
Wang Mulan immediately looked slightly embarrassed.
"Uncle Ye, things were complicated..."
"Complicated your head!" the old healer interrupted loudly. "Do you know how shocked I am right now?!"
Then suddenly his sharp eyes narrowed suspiciously.
"Wait a minute..."
His gaze instantly landed on Su Mingxuan.
"This is your mate?"
Su Mingxuan immediately nodded politely.
"Yes, senior."
The old healer instantly huffed.
"Hmph. At least your eyes were not blind when choosing a beast husband."
Su Mingxuan: "..."
Hu Yan and the others instantly lowered their heads, trying hard not to gain his attention. This man didn’t even leave their father-in-law with some dignity; than what are they?
Meanwhile, Su Qinglan looked between them curiously before finally asking softly,
"Mother... who is Uncle Ye?"
The old healer immediately straightened proudly before Wang Mulan could even answer.
"Who am I?" he snorted dramatically. "Little girl, your mother was practically raised by this old man!"
He immediately marched toward Su Qinglan before grabbing her wrist and dragging her beside him proudly.
"Even though I didn’t give birth to her, she is still my little daughter!" he declared loudly. "Back then, this girl followed behind me every day, causing trouble and ruining my herbs!"
Wang Mulan immediately coughed awkwardly.
"Uncle Ye..."
But the old healer ignored her completely.
"And now suddenly she already has such a big daughter!" he continued while looking at Su Qinglan with shining eyes. "Hmph. At least this granddaughter looks more reliable than her mother."
Su Qinglan blinked. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Granddaughter?
Before she could react, the old healer had already grabbed her face with both hands and started examining it left and right like some precious treasure.
"Good," he muttered while nodding seriously. "Very good."
Then suddenly he glared at Wang Mulan.
"Unlike your useless mother!"
Wang Mulan instantly widened her eyes.
"Uncle Ye!"
But the old healer directly exploded.
"What? Am I wrong?!" he shouted. "I taught you medicine for years! YEARS! But you could not even distinguish healing grass from poisonous grass!"
Everyone instantly turned silent. The old healer became even more emotional as he recalled old memories.
"One time I told her to boil healing herbs for a patient," he complained loudly while pointing dramatically at Wang Mulan, "and this girl almost poisoned the entire tribe!"
Su Mingxuan instantly coughed while trying to suppress laughter.
Even Xuan Long’s lips slightly twitched.
Wang Mulan covered her face helplessly.
"That happened only once..."
"Once?!" the old healer shouted angrily. "This old man almost lost his reputation because of you!"
Then suddenly his expression changed again as he looked back at Su Qinglan.
But this time, his old eyes were practically glowing.
"However..." he muttered slowly, "this granddaughter is different." He immediately grabbed Su Qinglan’s wrist again excitedly.
"She saved that female and the cub. Her understanding is clearly much better than yours!"
Wang Mulan instantly looked wronged. Meanwhile, Su Qinglan stood there blankly as the old healer circled around her excitedly.
"Hahaha!" he suddenly laughed, proudly. "Finally! Beast God finally opened his eyes!"
He slapped his thigh loudly.
"This old man finally found a proper successor!"
Su Qinglan instantly froze.
"Wait...what successor?"
The old healer immediately looked at her seriously.
"From today onward," he declared proudly, "you will learn medicine from me!"
Su Qinglan: "..."
The old healer didn’t even wait for Su Qinglan’s agreement.
He immediately started rummaging through his crooked medicine bag with the enthusiasm of a man who had just discovered a new continent.
"Good bones, steady pulse, clear eyes...excellent talent!" he muttered rapidly, circling her again like an appraiser examining a prized spiritual herb. "A little thin, but that’s fine. This old man will fatten you up with proper medicinal meals."
Su Qinglan’s mouth twitched. "Senior, I think there’s been a misunderstanding..."
"Misunderstanding?" The old healer whipped his head around so fast his topknot nearly came undone. "What misunderstanding?!"
He suddenly jabbed a finger at Wang Mulan again.
"Back in her day, your mother once mistook Snow Spirit Grass for Thousand Poison Vine and nearly turned an entire hunting party blue for three days!"
Wang Mulan’s elegant face finally cracked. "Uncle Ye! Can you not tell my daughter every single embarrassing story from my childhood within five minutes of meeting her?!"
"Why not?" The old man snorted, crossing his arms proudly. "She should know what kind of unreliable mother she has so she doesn’t follow the same path."
Su Qinglan couldn’t help it...She laughed softly, the sound light and genuine.
The old healer’s expression instantly melted again. He looked at her like she had hung the moon.
"Look at that smile! So sensible! So filial!" He turned to Su Mingxuan with a stern, appraising look. "You, Beast Boy. You’d better treat both my daughter and my granddaughter well, or this old man will poison your meat for the rest of your life."
Su Mingxuan, who had been maintaining perfect politeness until now, finally showed a helpless smile.
"...This junior will remember Senior Ye’s teachings."
