Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off
Chapter 643: Digging Through the Snow
Hu Yan nodded immediately. Without the slightest hesitation, his body transformed.
A massive tiger appeared where he had been standing. The enormous beast immediately began digging through the snow with powerful paws.
Snow flew in every direction. Large chunks were tossed aside as he worked tirelessly to break through the frozen barrier.
The cubs instantly became excited again.
"Father is amazing!"
"Dig faster!"
"Make a path!"
Their cheers echoed nonstop through the house.
For a while, Hu Yan continued working hard, but before long Su Qinglan noticed a problem.
The snow was simply too deep. Using paws alone was painfully inefficient.
At this rate, it would take forever. Suddenly, her eyes lit up as an idea appeared.
Without wasting time, she hurried toward the storage area and began searching through their collection of farming tools.
A few moments later, she found exactly what she wanted. It was normally used for moving soil and mud.
But honestly... Snow wasn’t all that different today. At least not in her eyes.
Immediately, she carried the tool back outside.
"Use this."
Hu Yan’s eyes brightened.
"Good idea."
Taking the tool, he immediately got back to work. This time, the results were obvious. Large piles of snow were shoveled aside one after another. The path widened rapidly.
Before long, an actual path appeared leading away from the doorway.
The cubs became excited the moment they saw the newly cleared path. A few of them immediately tried rushing outside.
Unfortunately for them, Rong Ye was faster. He stepped forward and blocked the entrance before anyone could escape.
"No."
The cubs froze.
Rong Ye crossed his arms.
"Go back."
The cubs stared at him blankly.
"Why?"
Rong Ye pointed toward the rooms. "Because you’re not wearing proper clothes." His finger remained firmly aimed at the hallway.
"Go get dressed warmly first. Then you can play outside."
For a moment, the cubs looked as though they had just heard the most unreasonable demand in history. The room instantly erupted into protest.
"No!"
"I don’t want clothes!"
"They’re uncomfortable!"
"My tail gets trapped!"
"My paws can’t move properly!"
"I run slower!"
"They’re terrible!"
One complaint followed another without pause. The cubs looked absolutely outraged.
Meanwhile, Rong Ye remained completely unmoved.
"Clothes first."
The simple response instantly crushed all hope. The cubs continued grumbling for a few more seconds.
Unfortunately, Rong Ye’s expression made one thing painfully clear. There would be no negotiations.
The cubs immediately wilted.
One after another, they turned around and dragged themselves back toward their rooms.
Their little tails drooped pitifully behind them.
The sight was so dramatic that it looked less like they were going to change clothes and more like they were marching toward their own execution.
By the time the path was finally cleared, both Hu Yan and Rong Ye were covered from head to toe in snow.
The two beastmen had worked side by side for quite some time. After Su Qinglan brought over the farming tool, Rong Ye had quickly gone to retrieve another one. Standing on opposite sides of the newly formed pathway, the two continuously shoveled snow away, their movements steady and efficient.
With every scoop, large piles of snow were tossed to the sides.
Slowly but surely, a proper road began to take shape.
What had once been a solid wall of white gradually transformed into a clear passage stretching from the house into the courtyard.
Only after the path was completely finished did the two finally stop working.
Both of them were breathing slightly heavier than before, and snow clung stubbornly to their clothing, hair, and shoulders.
Not long afterward, Hu Yan carried a large pot of freshly boiled water back into the house.
The moment he entered, warm steam billowed into the room. The comforting heat immediately spread through the house, softening the chill that had lingered since morning.
Su Qinglan’s eyes brightened. Without hesitation, she sat beside the basin and dipped a cloth into the warm water.
The pleasant warmth instantly seeped into her fingers. After standing near the window for so long earlier, both her hands and face had become uncomfortably cold.
Now, the sensation felt heavenly. She gently wiped her face and couldn’t help letting out a small sigh of satisfaction.
Meanwhile, Rong Ye had already gathered all the cubs together. The moment the little ones saw him approaching, they instinctively sensed danger.
Unfortunately for them, escape was no longer possible.
"Stand properly."
The cubs reluctantly shuffled into a line.
One by one, Rong Ye began cleaning them. First their faces, then their paws, and then their ears. The entire process was met with fierce resistance.
Unfortunately, none of their efforts succeeded.
Every time someone escaped, Rong Ye calmly reached out, grabbed the culprit, and pulled them right back into line.
The wolf twins had laughed loudly when Xiao Yi was caught first. Their amusement lasted only a few seconds.
Soon afterward, they were captured as well. Before long, everyone was suffering together.
By the time he finished, every face was clean, every paw had been wiped, and every ear had been checked.
Only then were the cubs finally released. The little ones immediately collapsed into dramatic heaps as though all their strength had been stolen away.
Afterward, Hu Yan headed back toward the kitchen. Breakfast still needed to be prepared. A short while later, Shi Feng finally emerged from the room.
The moment he stepped into the main room, the first thing he saw was a row of defeated-looking cubs having their faces wiped clean. His lips twitched slightly.
The scene was strangely entertaining.
Shi Feng stood there quietly for a moment, watching the spectacle unfold before eventually walking over to the basin himself.
After quickly washing up, he headed outside to help Hu Yan prepare breakfast. With two people working together, the process became much faster.
Soon, the rich aroma of food drifted through the house. Not long afterward, everyone gathered around the table. Warm dishes filled the room with comforting scents.
The cold world outside suddenly felt much farther away. The cubs immediately buried themselves in breakfast.
All traces of their earlier suffering vanished the moment food appeared.
The adults ate as well, occasionally glancing through the windows at the snow still falling outside.
Once breakfast was finished, Su Qinglan finally began preparing to go outside. This time, however, she had learned her lesson. She started with one layer of fur clothing. Then added another and another.
By the time she finished dressing, she had wrapped herself so thoroughly that she almost looked round. The thick layers made movement slightly awkward, but warmth was far more important.
Only after pulling on her boots did she finally leave the house. The moment she stepped outside, a blast of cold air greeted her.
The freezing wind brushed across her face, carrying with it countless tiny snowflakes.
Fortunately, the extra layers worked wonderfully. At least this time she didn’t immediately start shivering.
Following the newly cleared path, Su Qinglan carefully made her way across the courtyard. Her destination was obvious... The vegetable garden.
As she approached, her suspicions were immediately confirmed.
The entire roof of the garden shelter had disappeared beneath a thick blanket of snow.
A tremendous amount had accumulated during the night. The weight pressed heavily against the structure, causing the roof to sag slightly under the burden.
Standing below it, Su Qinglan couldn’t help staring upward.
From this angle, the shelter looked alarmingly fragile.
For a brief moment, it seemed as though the entire structure might collapse under the enormous weight at any second.
The sight immediately made her heart tighten. The vegetables inside had survived countless difficulties to reach this point.
If the shelter collapsed now, all of that hard work could be buried beneath the snow in an instant.
