Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off
Chapter 662: The Midnight Search for Father Beast
Han Jue’s eyes softened into absolute mush in an instant. Looking down at his two adorable, fluffy daughters, his protective fatherly instincts exploded.
He immediately bent down, scooped both of the tiny bundles into his broad arms, and brought them inside out of the chill.
Seeing their watery, teary eyes, his heart completely melted.
"What happened?" he asked, his voice incredibly loving and gentle.
"Why are my sweet babies crying? Did you miss your Father Beast?"
The two little cubs looked like they were on the verge of sobbing.
Han Jue felt a wave of guilt hit him. He kissed each of them tenderly right on top of their furry heads.
"Father Beast is so sorry," he murmured softly.
"I was a bit busy today, so I couldn’t accompany you. Don’t be sad."
Ever since they were born, Han Jue had made it a strict routine to accompany his daughters every single night until they fell fast asleep.
The little girls were incredibly clingy to him and highly dependent on his presence.
Because he hadn’t shown up the entire evening, they must have woken up in the middle of the night feeling scared and upset.
Glancing through the open door, Han Jue noticed the rest of the main house was completely dark and quiet. These two brave little things had definitely sneaked out all by themselves just to find him.
Su Qinglan looked over from the bed and smiled warmly. "See who is here!" she called out happily.
Han Jue walked over and set the cubs down on the bed.
Su Qinglan reached out, gently rubbing the soft heads of both girls.
"You two only need your Father Beast, hm? What about your mommy?" she teased, putting on a pout. "Are you ignoring me?"
The two cubs froze, completely dumbfounded by her words.
In their little minds, Father Beast was always the one they turned to for comfort and cuddles because they didn’t want to accidentally disturb their precious mommy.
They always clung to him. But now, seeing their mommy actively complaining and looking sad, they panicked. How could mommy think they didn’t love her? That was impossible!
Without a second thought, the two little girls completely abandoned their father.
They turned around and scrambled across the blankets, jumping straight into Su Qinglan’s waiting arms.
Su Qinglan giggled happily as the two soft, warm bundles tumbled against her chest.
She ruffled their fur gently, her heart bursting with affection. "So soft, so cute," she whispered happily. "My daughters are truly the most beautiful girls in the world."
The two cubs, however, didn’t even hear her praise.
They were completely mesmerized, staring up at their mother with very wide eyes. With her wet hair framing her face and her beautiful, pale green eyes shining with pure warmth and affection, Su Qinglan looked absolutely breathtaking...just like a stunning fairy under the dim, warm light of the fire.
Han Jue stood by the bed for a moment, just watching the three of them. A soft, incredibly tender smile broke across his handsome face as he looked at his beautiful mate and their two fluffy daughters tangled up in the blankets.
"Alright, you three," Han Jue said, his voice a low, amused rumble.
"Since nobody can sleep, I’m going to whip up a late-night snack. Lan Lan, don’t let them trick you into letting them chew on the blankets."
The two cubs let out tiny, synchronized yips as if defending their honor, making Su Qinglan burst out laughing.
"Go on, Big Wolf. We’re starving here!"
Han Jue chuckled and disappeared into the kitchen area.
Before long, the mouth-watering aroma of rich broth, roasted meat, and fresh spices began to drift into the bedroom. Su Qinglan’s stomach let out a loud, undisguised rumble.
"Hear that, babies?" she whispered to the cubs, who were sniffing the air eagerly. "That’s the sound of absolute starvation."
A few minutes later, Han Jue marched back into the room, carrying a small wooden bedtable under one arm and two massive, steaming stone bowls in his hands.
The bowls were piled high with thick, chewy hand-pulled noodles, swimming in a savory broth packed with bright vegetables and tender slices of meat.
"The floor is way too freezing at midnight," Han Jue muttered, efficiently setting up the table right over Su Qinglan’s lap beneath the heavy covers. "Eat while it’s hot, Lan Lan."
The moment the food landed, the two tiny snow wolf cubs let out excited squeaks and began to scramble forward, their little noses twitching wildly.
But before they could even get close to the bowls, Han Jue’s massive hands swooped down.
With ease, he scooped both of his daughters up by their scruffs and plunked them straight into his own lap.
"Hey! No crowding your mommy," Han Jue scolded gently, wrapping his broad arms around them like a protective wall.
"You two are too rowdy. What if you spill the hot soup on her?"
Su Qinglan paused, her chopsticks halfway to her mouth, and rolled her eyes with immense affection.
"Han Jue, seriously? They weigh less than a handful of snow. They aren’t going to knock over a giant stone bowl."
"Prevention is key, Lan Lan," Han Jue said solemnly, adjusting his grip so the cubs were safely pinned.
Su Qinglan blew on her noodles and mumbled, "No wonder my cubs think I’m made of glass and will break if they touch me. You’ve brainwashed them into thinking I’m a delicate flower."
Han Jue chuckled deeply, the sound vibrating through his broad chest.
"You are delicate compared to us wild beasts, Lan Lan. I have to be careful."
The two tiny cubs sat perfectly still in his lap, looking up at Su Qinglan with wide, round eyes, completely taking their father’s protective words as absolute truth.
They looked back and forth between their parents, their little tails giving tiny thumps against Han Jue’s thighs.
Han Jue picked up a small spoon, dipped it into his own bowl, and carefully blew on the broth until it was perfectly warm.
"Alright, babies, open up," he cooed, his voice shifting into a shockingly gentle tone that completely clashed with his fierce, muscular appearance.
Su Qinglan bit her spoon softly, totally mesmerized by the sight.
Han Jue was a giant wolf beastman, packed with hard muscles and an intimidating frame, yet their two lovely daughters were literally only the size of his palm.
Sitting in his lap, the two fluffy white bundles almost completely disappeared, looking like tiny cotton balls against a massive boulder as they eagerly lapped up the soup from his spoon.
"See? They like my cooking better anyway," Han Jue teased, flashing Su Qinglan a smug, playful grin as he wiped a stray drop of soup from a cub’s chin with his thumb.
"Oh, please. They’d eat dried grass if you blew on it first," Su Qinglan retorted with a giggle, happily slurping down a large mouthful of her delicious, chewy noodles.
"But fine, your noodles are top-tier. I’ll give you credit for that."
The bedroom was filled with the cozy sounds of quiet eating, happy cub murmurs, and soft laughter.
Once the bowls were completely cleared and the table was put away, Han Jue quickly washed up and slid back under the heavy blankets.
The winter wind howled fiercely against the stone walls outside, but inside, the bed was a perfect haven of heat.
Han Jue pulled Su Qinglan tightly against his chest, while the two tiny snow wolf cubs curled up in a tight, fluffy ball right between them.
Wrapped in the safety of their little family, they all closed their eyes and peacefully fell fast asleep into the quiet night.
