Chapter 42 - Yu Shi Huang

Xiu Bao Bao.

Every time she hears her mom call her with this nickname, all hell will break loose. Ever since she had grown older, her parents had never called her that for quite some time. Her mom, Her Highness the Queen as what her and her brothers call their mom behind her back, would every so often bring up this name.

When?

It's when she was angry. Like really angry. And when the Queen is angry, of course, the King would suffer and then the princes and princess would be too.

Her Mom, Yu Shi Huang, came from a deeply rooted line of a military family. Basically, almost every member of the Yu Family are involved in the military, not necessarily a front-line soldier but some entered as an army doctor, scientist, and etc. A lot of Xiu Mei's relatives have occupied high positions in the army, including her eldest brother, Xiu Min, who entered the military at such a young age.

The Yu Family is one of the few families who have solidified its authority not only in mainland China but in other countries as well. Therefore, in the social circle, no one dares to get in trouble with a Yu Family member.

"Hi Mom~" Xiu Mei did her best to make her voice sound a bit childish hoping to soothe her mom's loving heart.

"Are you sure I'm still your mom?" The Queen angrily retorted. "Such a big event and you never thought to tell us?!"

Xiu Mei gulped. Ah, she had forgotten this part. Dang it!

She was too preoccupied with resolving the issue that she had forgotten to clarify everything to her mom first. If Xiu Mei wasn't driving, she would've pulled her hair out from frustration. How the hell did she forget that her mom would never let go of this?

"Mom, let me explain it first."

"Home. Right now." A firm voice replied. Xiu Mei stiffened in her seat for a second before she quickly shifted her car gears.

"Roger that." The Queen has spoken and it shall be served.

Xiu Mei quickly took a quick U-turn as she drove into a different direction to her place. She better forgo getting rest, she still has some explaining to do.

It took an hour for Xiu Mei to drive to the Xiu private residence. Since her family home is located in the suburbs, she had to drive for quite a while in the middle of nowhere before reaching her destination.

At the gate, there were guards who were blocking the gates for security purposes. She rolled down the window, placed her hand on the scanner before a beep sounded verifying her identity. Even though she is a daughter of the Xiu household, every person who enters the residence still has to do an identity verification before going in. It was a protocol to be followed to make sure that every person coming in would be recorded and it would lessen the danger that was constantly following their family.

Inside, it still drove for a few minutes before arriving at the doorstep of the Xiu Mansion. Handing the keys to one of the servants, Xiu Mei saw her family's butler already standing outside the doorstep when she alighted her car.

"Welcome home, Miss Mei." Arnold, the butler, uttered. Xiu Mei returned him a slight bow and a smile before she continued walking to enter the mansion.

Inside, she met a couple of servants greeting her way as she made her way to the garden where her mom would usually be at this time of the day. And just what she had expected, she saw her mom in the garden wearing her gardening clothes.

Xiu Mei had to watch her mom slowly destroying the bush of flowers as she kept digging through the soil. She even saw some of the maids accompanying her mom to be looking down as well, seemingly feeling pity for the destroyed beauty of that part of the garden.

She sighed. Looks like the gardener will cry when he sees this.

Xiu Mei raised her hand to knock the outside door, informing her mom of her presence. Yu Shi Huang raised her head, and with a face smudged with mud, she fiercely glared at Xiu Mei who was standing by the door.

She quickly stopped whatever she was doing and stood up. She signaled for Xiu Mei to sit on the chairs as she quickly busied herself in cleaning up. One of the maids handed over a wet towel for her to wipe with thus, she quickly accepted it. After removing the gardening clothes she was wearing on top of her homewear, Yu Shi Huang joined her daughter on the garden table and sat across her.

A cup of tea and cookies have already been served when she seated.

Xiu Mei watched her mom act so fiercely at her. She watched her trying her best to ignore her while occasionally taking a quick peek at her as she sipped on her tea.

Xiu Mei had to hold back her laugh with the way her mom was acting.

"When's the wedding?" Her mom declared as she placed her cup on the table that made clinking sound.

"There is no wedding." Xiu Mei calmly remarked. Her mom's brows raised as she slapped her hand on the table making all the plates and cutleries on it shake. Because her mom had been trained as a soldier before, her strength shouldn't be compared to other elite housewives.

"Xiu Bao Bao, what do you mean there's no wedding?!" Yu Shi Huang's voice yelled at her as she gave her daughter a look with all the ridiculous words she was spouting.

"You and Mr.Lu are already engaged. Don't you dare tell me that both of you are not planning on conducting a wedding?!"

"There's no wedding because Mr.Lu and I aren't engaged at all!!!!"

Yu Shi Huang paused.

What did her daughter say?

She wasn't engaged with her superior? Who was she trying to fool?
