Hearing Xiu Mo Ruo's mocking, Lu Chen didn't feel offended at all because he partially blamed himself on this incident. With the security in his building getting quite lax, intruders other than the kidnappers can actually sneak into the building. And he knows how bad it would be if spies from other companies can easily steal confidential pieces of information because of this mistake.

"It won't happen again." Lu Chen stated he coldly gazed at the paper. Lu Shao already held the punishments to be done to the people involved and the security in the building has been replaced by some people from his organisation.

This time, he won't let anyone make the same mistake again. That is if they still want their lives.

"I'll see what I can find on my side. It's better to do two separate investigations, so we can see if there are any differences or deliberate pieces of evidence that would show up next time." Lu Chen placed the piece of paper onto the folder and closed. He fixed the edges of his sleeves as he stood up from his seat.

Xiu Mo Ruo's lips were in a thin line as he icily looked over Lu Chen. "If I find out that this kidnapping case is because of something you did, our family won't spare you at all."

He threatened Lu Chen as he thought of the other possibility for this case. Since the family knew of Lu Chen's involvement in the underworld, the possibility of this incident being related to that was quite high.

Another thing to consider is the enemies of their family as well, with their family both involved in military and politics, a lot of people envy the power the Xiu family holds as well. This time, the culprit behind Xiu Mei's attempted kidnapping is preparing carefully, which means that it's smarter and dangerous. Which also means that the possibility of it being related to Lu Chen or to the Xiu family is quite high as well.

After Lu Chen and Xiu Mo Ruo ended their meeting, Lu Chen quickly rode the car and returned to the hospital. As he pondered about the information he read awhile ago, he received a call from his secretary, Lu Shao.

"Boss, Ming Xuan did a quick sweep on the recent activities of the Sy Clan but he didn't find out anything that could possibly connect the kidnapping to them." Lu Shao sounded at the other phone. He could hear the sound of papers shuffling around as well as Lu Shao continued doing his report.

"What about from the Legion Head?"

"The Legion head is still in progress of investigating the suspected organisations as well. He said they'll get back to you once they sniff something out."

"Good. Anything else?"

After dropping the call, Lu Chen's mood grew dimmer.

The mere fact that the Legion head hasn't found out anything means that this kidnapping incident might have become more dangerous than expected if Xiu Mei wasn't put on tight security by both him and Mo Ruo's bodyguards.

If she was taken away, it seems that finding her would be harder and difficult even for the Xiu family.

Who is it? Who is the person behind this incident and what grudge does that person have with Xiu Mei? Enough to even take her away even if they have to shoot her and beat her up.

His fists clenched in anger as he thought of this. It seems like… he has to find another way to keep her protected. He thought more for a few seconds before pulling out his phone again, calling another number.

Back in the hospital, Xiu Mei was kept entertained by Lu Qiang who was being such a filial son for her. Even the nurses there couldn't help but praise the little kid who was so well-behaved.

Her good mood didn't change at all until Lu Chen arrived at her room, with folder in tow. Somehow, Xiu Mei felt ominous after seeing that folder. It almost screamed bad news for her that she almost chose to sprint away from Lu Chen's sight right at that moment.

"Did you take a short rest today?"

Lu Chen asked as he put down the other stuff he was holding on the sofa. He noticed the little kid curling up beside Xiu Mei on the bed, seemingly in a deep sleep. He approached the little kid and lightly ruffled the kid's hair before returning his attention back to Xiu Mei.

Xiu Mei scrunched her face and complained, "Aren't I resting too much already? I've been here for quite a few days with a small amount of work to do with this laptop."

She even dramatically gestured towards her laptop and spread out her arms.

"With all this rest, won't I become a bum soon? Or once I go back, I might have to return to the hospital again due to overwork because of all the work that piled up in my absence?"

Xiu Mei held her head in defeat and acted tearfully as she continued complaining, "Won't Lu Shao and my assistant kill me because of all the work I've been making them do for these past few weeks? At this rate, won't it be better if I just quit altogether?"

Xiu Mei felt a hand pinching her cheek lightly as it pulled her face to look up at the guy who was standing beside her bed.

"You're overthinking." Lu Chen couldn't help but smile at Xiu Mei's dramatic complains. He knew that she wasn't being all serious about it but she was just really complaining about the fact that she couldn't work too much while she's still under-recovery.

"Can't you just give me a bit more work? Like reading the latest proposal by the Technology Team? Or even just the stats to analyze for this year?"

She attempted to slap away his hand on her face but clearly, she really is a weak patient and had no chances against the strong guy in front her.

"No. So stay put and recover, that's your duty for now."

"Che." She pouted once again. She looked over at Lu Chen and glared but it didn't affect him at all. Rather, it looked like he enjoyed seeing her angry instead.

Look, where has the cold emperor CEO gone now? Lu Chen looks like a black-bellied president instead.

"Your wish is my command, Emperor." Xiu Mei put on a fake smile as she acted as if she was willingly complying to Lu Chen's words.

Lu Chen raised his eyebrow in interest after hearing how Xiu Mei called him. Emperor?

The nickname that the employees in his company are using behind his back? Did they think he wasn't aware of the different versions of names they had made for him?

And now, Xiu Mei is getting so bold to even call him with this nickname now?

Lu Chen almost laughed. Well, if that's the case, won't it be rude not to join in in her play?

"Then my Queen, I shall play with you as well." Lu Chen spoke, his voice mixed with seriousness and playful tone in it. As if he was planning something ominous for Xiu Mei.

Xiu Mei almost choked on her spit after hearing Lu Chen's sentence.

What the hell? Did he really just call me 'My Queen'?!

Her eyes widened in fear as she looked at Lu Chen. She finally noticed the glint on his eyes, a knowing glint that Lu Chen is on to something bad.

But that look hasn't been directed to her at all, but now…. Ah, would she die here today?

Xiu Mei thought of all the possibilities in her head as she tried to think what kind of plan is Lu Chen throwing her way now.

Suddenly, her eyes drifted to the folder on the sofa.

Xiu Mei's eyes jumped, especially when Lu Chen started moving towards it to pick it up.
