Cultivation: I Have a Golden Talisman
Chapter 171 - 6: Bridal Chamber, Law Enforcement, Slaughter
On the joyous day of the Wen Family’s wedding, a great many guests arrived to offer their congratulations.
Fang Cheng and Yun Feiyu presented their wedding gift, claiming to be close friends of the groom, and smoothly blended in with the Wen Family.
The Wen Family’s Steward Elder called out an acknowledgement and went to greet the other guests.
Fang Cheng secretly released his six remaining Vajra Gu, having them hide in various locations throughout the Wen Family’s estate. Before long, they had located the thirteen hidden Array Discs and Array Flags for the Clan Protection Array and lay dormant in wait.
When dusk fell, the banquet began. Before all the guests, a couple dressed in magnificent wedding attire performed their ceremonial bows and drank from the nuptial cups. The atmosphere was exceptionally festive.
Perhaps due to local custom, at the teasing behest of the younger friends and relatives, the groom lifted the veil from the bride’s head. Everyone curiously sized up the bride, wondering about her appearance.
The bride had a bashful expression, her eyes as clear as autumn pools. Her shapely brows were lightly penciled, and her round face was exquisitely made up, exuding a hint of charm from beneath a dignified air.
Everyone saw that she was indeed a beauty, and all of them voiced their praise.
After making a round of toasts, the bride and groom were escorted to the bridal chamber.
Fang Cheng and Yun Feiyu sat at the feast and ate a few bites, but there was still no sign of the Thousand-Faced Insect.
Fang Cheng said to Yun Feiyu, "Knowing the Thousand-Faced Insect’s nature, he’s probably in the bride’s chamber by now... Let’s go take a look."
With that, the two quietly slipped away from their seats. Once out of the main hall, they used a Concealing Breath Talisman to hide their presence and went straight to the bridal suite.
Outside the ornate room, a faint shimmer of light diffused through the air. It was clearly a restrictive spell, placed to conceal any activity within.
Two Maids stood guard at the door, whispering amongst themselves and chatting to pass the time.
As Fang Cheng approached, he flicked his fingers, sending out two jets of Magical Power to seal the women’s Qi Seas and spiritual souls, causing them to faint without a sound.
The glowing spell outside wasn’t particularly sophisticated, seemingly serving only as a warning. Fang Cheng reached out, and with a gentle swipe, an invisible beam of sword light sliced an opening through it.
The Celestial Ghost Sword Technique, formless and silent, was so subtle that it didn’t affect the spell’s operation in the slightest.
Fang Cheng and Yun Feiyu peered inside, and understanding dawned on them instantly.
’The Thousand-Faced Insect really is here!’
The once high-spirited groom now stood stiffly in the room, a Talisman affixed to his chest.
Red candles burned brightly in the room. On the bed, draped in red silk and satin, the main occupant was another man entirely!
The bride’s clothes were in disarray, her face stained with tears. Her expression was a mask of despair and humiliated fury.
Before Fang Cheng had left the Law Enforcement Hall, the information from Cai Li had contained detailed information on the Thousand-Faced Insect, including several of the faces he frequently used!
The man who had usurped the groom’s place in the bridal chamber was, shockingly, one of the faces the Thousand-Faced Insect had favored years ago.
’Some habits, it seems, are hard to break no matter how many years go by.’
Fang Cheng took out the Suanni mask and put it on. A Golden Rope shot out from his sleeve and flew into the room.
The man in the bridal chamber was instantly on alert. His expression changed, but not with panic—instead, a vicious look crossed his face.
He let out a savage sneer and stopped what he was doing. Just as he was about to move and intercept the Immortal Binding Rope, a deathly green-black aura suddenly flooded his face.
A potent poison.
In an instant, excruciating pain wracked the man’s body. His Magical Power began to drain away like air from a punctured ball.
With a flicker, he shot through the roof of the house with incredible speed. In the process, he pulled out a Rejuvenation Talisman to activate with his Magical Power, but a golden light suddenly flashed in the corner of his eye. He saw a glittering golden rope snaking toward him.
The man should have had half a dozen ways to evade it, but the poison coursing through his body had slowed his reaction time.
In that moment of hesitation, the Immortal Binding Rope bound him completely.
"Help! Assassin!"
The man yelled as he fell, landing at Fang Cheng’s feet.
Hearing the shout, the guests from the wedding feast rushed over.
The bride ran out of the bridal chamber in tears, heedless of her disheveled clothes, and rushed to her family’s side, sobbing out her story.
The members of the Wen Family, however, watched on with blank expressions, as if their earlier enthusiasm at the banquet had been nothing but an act.
The other guests looked on with bewilderment, their curious gazes shifting between the bride, the groom, Fang Cheng, and the Thousand-Faced Insect. For a moment, no one understood what was happening.
Several female cultivators from the Wen Family, their cultivation at the Late Sensing Stage, cried out, "Release our Elder at once!"
As they spoke, they took out jade pendants and channeled their Magical Power to activate the Wen Family’s Clan Protection Array.
However, in the corners of the estate, several lights flickered and died. The spiritual glow of the Grand Array faded before it could even fully emerge.
"Something’s wrong with the Array Discs and Array Flags! Go check on them!"
Someone who noticed the Grand Array was not functioning correctly immediately shouted.
Numerous figures flickered and shot off, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
The few female cultivators of the Late Sensing Realm lunged toward Fang Cheng. Before they could even get close, an invisible beam of sword light silently sliced their bodies in two. Their remains fell to the ground with a wet THUD, drawing gasps of shock from the crowd.
The faces of the onlookers grew grim. They all backed away, their wariness apparent.
The other male cultivators of the Wen Family, however, simply watched on coldly, unmoving.
Wearing the ferocious beast mask, Fang Cheng looked down at the Thousand-Faced Insect and asked coolly, "I’ll ask you, are you the Thousand-Faced Insect?"
As he spoke, he summoned a bronze mirror that shimmered with a faint, clear light. The mirror rose into the air, bathing the Thousand-Faced Insect in its pure radiance.
The Thousand-Faced Insect’s face darkened. He gritted his teeth and said, "You’re one of the Ten Fiends from the Yinluo Sect’s Law Enforcement Hall? I’m afraid you have the wrong person. I’ve never heard of any Thousand-Faced Insect or Hundred-Faced Insect..."
Before he could finish, the light from the bronze mirror turned red and began to flash violently.
He was clearly lying.
The Thousand-Faced Insect recognized the Magical Artifact—the True Words Mirror. His brow furrowed, and he clamped his mouth shut, saying nothing more.
