Cyberpunk: Cross-dimensional Science and Engineering
Chapter 103 - 99: The Novice Thief and the Notorious Bandit
Getting an explosive motorcycle in the city center and blowing up million-dollar sports cars into smithereens, reducing perfectly tidy streets to ruins...
This is what a major case in Night City looks like, this is a major case in Night City.
If this happened in Saint Domingo or Haywood, the NCPD would just think:
Whatever, the citizens need to vent, we have to give them some leeway.
But it was different because this happened in City Hall.
The duty captain looked pale—it was unimaginable to encounter such a thing in City Hall!
"A police car was destroyed by a heavy sniper rifle, suspected to be a Maoyou Sniper Rifle...."
"The explosive in the city center was a Tsunamiki CT-3X model motorcycle, suspected gas tank explosion, the suspect is a tech expert..."
In the busy NCPD dispatch center, the duty captain pulled his hair and looked at the screen:
"Get the suspect analysis up."
One glance and his heart sank—
Victim: Diana Kuno.
Identity: Head of operations at the Biotechnology Company.
Suspect: Data lost, data lost, biotechnological agent.
Seeing this, the captain knew their network was hacked, the first two lost data were incomplete temporary files, even one lost data suspect’s vehicle was a high-end sports car...
It all looked fishy.
But the critical part was the only displayed "biotechnological agent" was really eye-catching, especially connected to the suspected Maoyou sniper rifle, an over-the-top weapon...
What’s more, the database was continuously updating information.
Suspect: Biotechnological agent with an unknown real name.
Details: Infiltrated the Tiger Claw Gang for years, cleansing their own employees to actively expose signs.
Biological characteristic code....
Mission information...
"Damn it!" The captain cursed, "Shut it down, shut it down now!"
The operator was also sweating: "But Captain, if we shut it down, we’ll lose the information on the other two suspects completely..."
"Don’t worry about it! Just shut it down, we’ll handle this manually, I’m contacting the higher-ups..."
But just as the captain was about to make the call, a call came in immediately.
The caller was calling for the first time, but the captain knew the name:
Brad Nowood.
Night City councilor, a die-hard fan of Military Technology.
...
On the other side, David floored the gas pedal, directly ramming the two police motorcycles chasing him.
The radio in the car was still on, they could even hear the cursing from the cops they had just sent flying.
David, sweating profusely, frantically maneuvered the steering wheel, the car twisted and turned before finally straightening, then closely sticking to the back of a black Mackinaw.
Driving, V glanced at the rearview mirror and thought this wasn’t good, planning to let Lille create a shooting opportunity for her.
"Damn, more cops..."
"Don’t shoot... Ugh—damn, it’s me!"
"You? Way to go, Lille, I thought you hid somewhere, didn’t expect you to jack a cop car!"
"Stop talking, head to Japantown—Ugh..."
Lille spoke while vomiting, feeling awful—yet, miraculously, the nausea from motion sickness could also be filtered out.
So the scene looked very weird—Lille appeared to be in pain but was actually calmly navigating the network.
The car sped down the road, no more NCPD cars coming constantly, instead, they were turned to chase some unlucky rich guy on the other side of City Hall.
No more NCPD coming, Lille sent a message to Jack and V while looking at the map.
"Turn left ahead, slow down, we’re hiding in that alley."
The car drove into the alley, several police cars sped by on the streets ahead, sirens blaring.
Lille kicked the car door open and hurried out to take a breather.
As the car stopped, the engine of Jack’s motorcycle started making a chattering sound, finally releasing a puff of black smoke and stalling.
"Good buddy," Jack patted the motorcycle, "glad you held on—should we get motorcycles? These things are great for getting away."
V got out of the car, glanced at the scratches and dents on the car: "I have to say...not buying a new car was a wise choice."
She then looked at Lille, and at David in the car: "Where did you find this temporary driver? So shaky at driving."
"Chip thief, caught by the NCPD—believe it or not, he was actually my classmate at Arasaka Academy."
Lille straightened up after catching his breath, the three of them looked at David and Lucy in the car.
The two small-time crooks suddenly got nervous—
The job Burger King Squad did in their minds wasn’t less than cyber-psychosis...
Was this a job? This was a terror attack!
V snickered: "Look at them, definitely small-time crooks—are you bringing them along?"
"Can’t always be doing the dirty work ourselves, right?"
Lille waved for David to get out of the car.
In the car, Lucy pressed David: "You can’t seriously be thinking of getting out? What if they want to silence us..."
David swallowed hard: "They just do things less conventionally, but that big guy is actually a good person..."
A good person?
A good person should plant a motorcycle bomb in the city center, perhaps blow up several NCPD police cars?
Are you confused about what the words "good person" mean?
David turned his head with a forced smile: "Don’t worry, folks on the street have principles, he said he’d give me 5000 euro for this job..."
Lucy hesitated: "Hey, if you’re short on money, we can go eighty-twenty."
"It’s not really about the money, just want to get my mom a new car, make it easier for her to go to work."
"I say you..."
