Cyberpunk: Cross-dimensional Science and Engineering
Chapter 127 - 119 Sacrifice
"V—Terrorist Mobile Team!"
Lille’s voice snapped V out of her killing frenzy. She spun around just in time to see members of the Terrorist Mobile Team flying towards her, brandishing red-hot Mantis Blades!
Clang!
The immense pressure bore down on the Mantis Blades, and both opponents, in a Si Anweisitan state, could even see the expressions on each other’s faces.
From V’s eyes, Rory read defiance and frenzy. V saw the curve of the woman’s lips as they formed a wicked smile.
One was a street kid who used fighting as a means of survival; the other, a Terrorist Mobile Team inspector who took pleasure in the hunt.
The first clash left Rory very satisfied!
The hum of blades, the rush of air, the surge of adrenaline—
An exhilarating opponent!
V buckled under Rory’s pressure, her knees bending. Rory followed through with her strength, flipping herself above V, and swung her arm down hard!
[Adhesion Status: Out of Control!]
The tremendous force even exceeded the magnetic equipment’s limit to provide friction, causing V to quickly slide downwards!
Rory, using this force, leaped slightly, plunging her red-hot Mantis Blade straight into the glass, slicing it open under the pull of gravity, and falling rapidly!
The sound of glass shattering burst forth in a series of explosions!
On the other side, a burly member of the Terrorist Mobile Team on the floating car fired his machine gun directly!
Jack and Lille, hearing the gunfire from behind, could only continue to smash the glass until, the moment the bullets hit it, the glass broke!
Crash!
Lille and Jack smashed through it!
V also swung into the building using Spider Silk to cling to the wall—
Finally, the trio reached the Nightingale Project Laboratory.
This entire floor was filled with secret labs, with access rights relatively high in the whole building, hosting not just the Nightingale Project but also several other unrecorded labs.
But the situation hadn’t improved—in fact, it had somewhat spiraled out of control.
The Terrorist Mobile Team’s intervention came earlier than expected—this indicated a certain scenario: the Terrorist Mobile Team, as well as Biotechnology, had taken an interest in them.
Lille struggled to rise from the ground and looked towards Jack—
"Cough... Lille... Are you alright?"
"Jack..."
Lille paused—
Jack had been shot.
The heavy machine gun was powerful enough to penetrate Jack’s Subdermal Armor, especially since he had already taken several shots before.
The wounds were in his back; the good news was they had not gone all the way through.
"It’s nothing... way better than last time..."
Jack clenched his fists with both hands and rose from the ground, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth.
V crashed into the building too, rolling twice on the ground before stopping in front of Lille.
The sharp-eyed Lille also noticed something odd about V—her Mantis Blade was still protruding from her arm, the heat of close combat still lingering at the point of impact.
The Terrorist Mobile Team’s slash had caused irreparable damage to the blade. Even though V was clueless about technology, she must have noticed the abnormality during the fight.
She was about to run out of options.
"What do we do now?"
"Now..."
Lille gazed at the lab around him and concocted a bold idea.
Exposing their position brought intense pressure—Lille wasn’t the type to be blinded by short-lived advantages.
He knew on what basis their advantage over Military Science was established and that it would soon dissipate.
In the end, exposure was not part of the plan.
For anything exceeding the plan, an equally unplanned solution was needed—
For instance, a real Lizard Man.
But with the Terrorist Mobile Team in pursuit, he had no time to operate the lab or the server.
"Run now, split up. V, you’re the only one here who might win in a one-on-one. Jack, you just need to keep them busy..."
"What about you?" V suddenly asked, "You’re the only one of us likely to drop dead. If we split up, what will you do?"
Lille retorted irritably, "Forgot about Atlanta? I’m not defenseless. On the contrary, I can blow up their Hacker. Don’t ask so many questions, just run!"
V and Jack felt something was off, but they still habitually chose to trust Lille.
"Alright—don’t die. That goes for both of you," V said, before giving Lille another glance, "especially you, kid."
"Then let’s move. The escape route’s marked."
The three of them immediately scattered in different directions.
Watching the trio swing into the building, Rory controlled her Mantis Blade, paused at the wall, and gestured for the heavy gunner to cease firing.
The darkness did not impair their vision; their tactical goggles saw everything clearly.
The three had split up, which was a good thing. It seemed they had been thoroughly scared.
"Minimize damage; this place’s contents seem very valuable—Biotechnology’s request."
The suspects have dispersed. Good. Time to test their strength.
I’ll deal with the woman, big guy against big guy, and that... unremarkable one, 0054, you handle it.
Command—Suspect A has significant potential, further combat testing required. Second echelon, stay alert and proceed with Military Technology.
Military Technology, the target has scattered; the larger one has been shot and is clear to enter."
"Copy that."
The Scorpion-tailed Lion hovered by the window as the three members of the Terrorist Mobile Team jumped into the building.
Military Technology personnel rappelled down into the building as well.
With the Terrorist Mobile Team’s involvement, the trio’s individual strengths were rendered moot; from now on, the real game of cat and mouse began.
...
The floor was quite extensive, broadly divided into the power supply zone, research area, server storage, and administrative zone.
The area into which Lille and the others had swung was part of the administrative zone. After dispersing, Lille headed towards the research area, running and explaining their tasks to Jack and V.
